I sure wish I understood this better. It has such a deeply emotional feel. I look forward to learning more about this piece.
It definitely is different and has a different feel. I hope someone comments and let's us know more about it!!

@@CalebColesMusic I just posted the link to the lyrical version with translation.. It is originally from a movie sung by the same singer. m.ua-cam.com/video/ktIdwvywpg0/v-deo.html
He was giving tribute to his friend who recently passed away at that time
Wow!! Those were some really beautiful lyrics, yet so forlorn. Tearjerking. It must be so difficult to sing that way. Talk about vocal acrobatics!
If you want vocal flexibility, India is the go-to place for it.
This is a fusion piece, Caleb. It has strong Western influences in addition to the core Indian perspective on music. They're constraining themselves - mostly - by adding a piano (superbly played) with its traditional Western scale and more or less sticking to that scale. But the added musical colors weren't Western at all, and the singer definitely isn't Western in his approach to music.
I didn't sense that the song, thematically, was going anywhere in particular; it was more a soundscape than anything else. Quite pleasant. It checks my boxes. I like virtuosity in music, and it's here. I like innovation; a fusion of Western and Indian motifs is going to produce innovation.
Cultural fusion isn't the first thing that pops into my head when I think of MTV. It seems they've discovered that there are terrific artists not residing in Hollywood or London. How about that.
Check Monali thakur's Dill cheez of coke studio India
You will definitely get western + Indian classical taste
Song is really sweet but happiness mixed with sadness. Lyrics describe feelings of a person who has surrendered himself to a fate, is rewarded with a fleeting moment of happiness and relief, that presents itself, unexpectedly. Overwhelmed and not sure how to react.
Lyrical version sung by the same singer: ua-cam.com/video/ktIdwvywpg0/v-deo.html
I am not an expert on music but trained Indian classical singers like Sonu start practicing from the age of 4-5 years clocking an average of 8-10 hours of practice daily. They say if u can become proficient in any of the Indian classical music genres then singing any kind of song becomes easier.
Yeah it is really an interesting sound. When I was over there, what I witnessed was a lot of fusion stuff. As in electric guitars, pianos etc. Western inspired mixed with traditional Indian songs, sounds and vocals. I'm sure depending on where you are that would change (such a diverse place) but that is what I saw.
Really cool sounds 😊
@@CalebColesMusic sonu nigam is very talented and he is one of the best singers of india. React on Arijit Singh. He is also very popular singer of India. His voice is so soulful. Check out mtv live performance of him- ua-cam.com/video/tdzhFbH6FrU/v-deo.html
Indian songs are Poetic......literal translation in English cant give you actual satisfaction..... lyrics are evn mo beautiful......😊
aditya singh sadly it only applies to the songs in the past... after those old lyricists retired(?), the whole industry went downhill. The new songs cant even be called Hindi songs anymore 😔
@@oishikasaha1293 Yeah, I had a childhood when music had emotion, culture and melodies that actually touch your heart
@@oishikasaha1293 totally agree with you.....😞

A beautiful performance demonstrating the wonderful universality of music. 🌹
I listened this song 100 times and i can listen it 1000 times more and never get bored. That is the power of this song.
He's paying tribute to the Late Ajay Jhingran, the lyricist of this song. He had passed away shortly before this performance, at the age of 42.
but lyricist was Amitabh bhattacharya
@@sandeshpatil3954 abhi mujhme kahiin is written by amitabh bhattacharya..but the chalki chalki chandni was written by ajay jhingran from.an old.album.of sonu ji❤️
I am so glad that reactions to this amazing performance are starting to catch fire all over UA-cam.
Same here
And i see your comments on every reaction for this lovely song. U also enjoying it like me
I even cry
I see several foreigners talking about nasality. That is not on purpose. Hindi has nasal phonemes that is just how you pronounce those words. It is not ornamentation or particular style of singing.
Yes you are right but it is not that easy first you want to learn classical too much then you were able to sing this
Your reaction seems genuine, unlike some other's.
instablaster...
Yes there are many who just do it for indian audience(views)
He is one of the best play back singer in the world.. Singers should be learned this legend...classical,pops vocals is so smooth.. He also sing 56 type of voice in one song... The great sonu nigam
Sonu nigam is an awesome songer
His every note express beautiful Emotions...
Beautiful Indian music, thank you 🙏
Sonu Nigam is a legend. You can also look for Arijit Singh who is current sensation and Shreya Ghoshal who is absolutely angelic.
You can watch Arijit Singh's Gima awards performance of 2017 and Shreya Ghoshal's Berklee college of music performance.
Yes!
Yes arijit Singh plz
Check out "Sun raha hai rozana" by Shreya Ghoshal, she is indian goddess of vocal dynamic. You'll definitely get impressed by her voice...
The main difference between Indian classical and Western classical music is the idea of "notes". Indian classical music is based on the relationships BETWEEN notes rather than the actual notes themselves, whereas Western music tries to force certain frequencies as the "standard" and flattens out the idea of microtonal music before it can even be incorporated into a piece. That's why pop music sounds so overly bright and rigid, and why songs have been progressively getting shorter and shorter over time - you can only do so much within the conceptual framework used by Western music. But Indian classical music has been changing, adapting, and creating new works for hundreds, if not thousands, of years - and continues to do so in ways that surprise even today's maestros.
This made so much sense! Thank you
Perfect explanation of difference between Western and Indian music
Disclaimer: You have now entered indian youtube territory, you are going to be overwhelmed by reaction requests on each and every platform of yours. Don't stress over it, just keep doing what makes you happy.✌️ :)
Sonu Nigam is an institution himself ❤️ , He is the God of music 🎵❤️ and Lord of chords ❤️
Lyrics:
Still, somewhere inside me,
Still, somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
A new heartbeat came up,
I got to know that I am still alive..
Some such tenacity
is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
Still somewhere inside me,
there is a little life remaining..
(as if) the body burning down in the sun
got the shade of a tree,
like the smile of an angry kid
came back on a little cajoling..
something like that is what my heart is feeling now,
on the years old wounds, there is some balm applied
some such mercy is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
like a kite with broken string
was this life of mine,
today I'm there, whether tomorrow takes place (for me) or not (is not known),
was my story everyday.. (he was unsure of how long he'd live)
now a new bond calls me from behind,
why does a worry for tomorrow trouble me,
such a prickle is there in this moment,
where was this moment of mine..
now it's in front of me,
should I die or should I live a little..
should I kiss joys,
or should I cry a little,
should I die or live for a while..
He is legend of music, best vocalist ever
Shreya Ghoshal is an amazing female vocalist here in India...you should react to some of her stuff as well... U won't regret😁😁
You should react to her live performance at Berklee Institute... It's amazing 😍
Welcome to the World of Indian Classical Music.
He is the rarest of the talents India has ever got, lucky to have Sonu
Indian classical music is unparalleled.....it takes 10-12yrs of training..... India is vry diverse in music as well...... Indian classical music needs 3 octaves which is considered as actual human voice..... whistle register and falsettos are not considered as vocal range coz u dont have full control on them.... react to
Lata Mangeshkar
Kaushiki Chakraborty
Shreya Ghoshal
Arijit Singh
Salman Ali......😊
That is a very big range for not using falsetto! Thanks for the suggestions :)
it takes more than 10-12 years to master classical, there is so much to learn
Yeah kaushiki chakrborty.....she is magnificent....i can't believe a human can do that!!
Yea react to salman ali

Literally this is what i commented atm this performance gives you hair rising exp 😍
Sanam puri aap ki nazron ne samjha is also very good .
Indian songs bring agility in your voice ! That's why I can mostly do any western song runs and riffs within my range quite comfortably.
most beautiful voices are sonu nigams and shreya ghoshals
Absolutely 👍
Without an iota of doubt...the best of mordern music industry.
Caleb I've been watching your channel for a while. I usually watch all the Dimash reactions but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that you reacted to Sonu Nigam. I'm Indian and I can tell you that almost every person here knows about him and please do watch more of him and I can gurantee you won't be disappointed. Please also react to another amazing Indian singer who has been ruling everyone's hearts here! Her name is Shreya Ghoshal! Once again, thank you for the wonderful reaction! ❤
Why the expressions and smile of this guy reminds me of Sanam? :-)
Eyebrows
Lol he is far far ahead of Sanam he is a legend
I loved the piano in this piece.
It hit different when you understand the lyrics
Sonu Nigam is Lord of Chords....He is LEGEND.....He is unmatchable 👍👍👍
Your reaction quite alot better than Justin burke especially when pause the music and talk (he talk too much while reaction), after that resuming your reaction.
He does reaction more than explaining
Agreed
I agreed. It's true
He is the real singer of this song and giving tribute to this "song writer" who just passed away. And bileave me is the best vocalist of this century who can sing anything.
Sonu nigam is living legend ❤️
React his rock qawali performance in iifa 2011
Hi - im new to the channel , Im a big fan of Sonu Nigam and I would very much like to learn about him and his songs , I would really recommend reacting to his own written song " Kal Ho Naa Ho " - he wrote this song after the demise to his mother. Kal ho na hoo is such a meaningful song ,you will be able to feel the pain in his voice.
Just a correction,That song was written by Javed Akhtar and not him. Amazing song.
@@tanaya4340 really ? My bad - He did mention writing this song for his mother in a yt video I saw but it was maybe something else
Sonu nigam is called lord of the chords cos he can pick notes and manipulate them while singing.
Goddd listen to his performance with Jermaine Jackson! It's phenomenal the song and their voices! ❤️
And do listen to Shreya Ghoshal and
Arijit Singh Great singers ❤️❤️👌🏻
Great reaction. Hopefully, you react to more Indian singers. My recommendation:
Berklee Sun Raha Hai Rozana by Shreya Ghoshal.

He is called beast of Live Singing in India. He is the most talented and soulful vocalist.
We are proud of him .
He tribute the the song writer of this song...Which passed away in age of 42...And Sonu Nigam ji is greatest in music line....He has sung 28 language..Sonu Sir Is GOAT❤️
The first song chalki chalki chandni,is from the sonus self composed album, classical mild.
The trills in Hindustani music come from the throat/neck not the mouth.
Have been watching you caleb since your dimash reactions , it feels great to watch you react to an Indian singer, am not a singer myself but feels to great to watch you analyse these musicians and also your own music, much love from india
Caleb seus fãs do Brasil 💞💞💞💞💞💞
Thanks for watching, hello from Australia :)
You are the only person reacting to a song without talking while singer is singing. Appreciate that being a singer myself.
Thanks for your reaction. His voice is like warm melted caramel to my ears.
I love to watch you collect every details, I am sure you feel the rhythm.

Well, he is brilliant. U know he's got immense control and so people call him "Lord Of Chords".
So since u asked for some recommendations I have one, A live performance by Sonu nigam at IIFA Rocks 2011,'RockQawali'.
Its a brilliant Qawwali song infused with Rock music!
Tears comes in my eyes whenever I hear this song
this songs give me goosebumps. I love Sonu Nigam and Song.
You should react to more like this like "Chaap tilak" this is a Pakistani song but India and Pakistani songs are the same we share same type of music. This song is beautiful. It's a classical song.

Very emotional song. I love this song ❤❤.
Sonu Nigam is a singer with phenomenal singing abilities.
please react to Arijit Singh GIMA 2017 live in performance
Very genuine reaction...
Amazing voice 👏
There are thousands of reactors on you tube but yours is perhaps one of the best reaction i have seen from a non-indian for an indian music/song. Technically very correct. By the you also have an awesome voice and talent...keep it up. Incase you want to enrich your singing more then spent few years in India and take training under any indian classical musician..you have great potential. Let me know if you want me to guide you on how to obtain such training.
Beautiful song ❤️❤️❤️
You nailed it!
You should go through more indian classical music stuff and the way they sing and also observe how the Indian classical music teaches the singer to play with different notes n overtones. A trained Indian singer can sync his voice with any musical instruments in terms of notes with that same tempo or speed n can changes notes as well that's why some western musical experts called Indian singers a Vocal Gymnastics..
