"What makes people think i can't", What an absolute Boss!
I love this answer
After watching movie I, Tonya, It's good to see she hasn't lost her character.
Dodge Williams YES!!
She came out of that question just like she did with that 3A , pumping fists in the air!
Tonya's answer was awesome 👏. Always liked that rebellious chick.
Say what you want, but Tonya Harding was a world class athlete still unequaled by most of her contemporary peers. Yeah, she did it, and here I am cheering for her years later.
MichaelAChang yes, you're right. What she went through and how she was treated by the elite panel is so rough and unjust. America denied a person a great chamce for life. To this date, people are blaming the lady for something she wasn't involved in. Nobody sees what she has been through the entire life while her opponent was an American sweetheart. Why couldn't the authorities assist her when they knew she was a subject of abuse. Why no one ever judged the coach who never came forward when she saw the constant abuse. Tonya Harding was gand raped, threatened to death and constantly beaten. All those who arw against her should get into her shoes and then come out of it which is impossible for many. It's a hypocrite world and hypocrites just destroyed a talent in her prime.
@@harisqayyum2883 Very well said. Good for you.
Tonya is a personal friend. Whenever we were out in public, be it at a pub, a friend's house, or a BBQ, idiots would constantly approach her, and demand that she 'fess up to what she did' or ask: "So, did you really whack Nancy Kerrigan in the knee?' She looked me in the eyes, privately, and told me exactly what she was guilty of. It was that she said nothing AFTER the attack, and that she knew nothing of it beforehand. I believe her. She's not the sharpest crayon in the book. She's an athlete. But she IS one of the sweetest people I have ever known. She is happily married now, with an awesome husband, and son. And there's nothing that anyone can say or do to her, that hasn't wrongly been said, or done in the past. Keep surviving Tonya!
Mike Grady iiiiiiii
those criminals would have killed her in a heartbeat if they even thought she might talk and she knew it. they might look benign now having been caught and confessed their crime, but they would have killed her if she even dreamed of opening her mouth. she knew it. not even nazi prison guards were considered guilty if they could convince the court they would be killed for not following orders.
Mike Grady She's a legend if you happen to talk to her tell her there's a whole generation Of young people who admire her athleticism I wish she was able to train others.
Mike Grady tell Tonya I believed her from the start, I think they were looking for a way to get rid of her. And when Jeff and her bodyguard pulled that stunt they found their way to get her off the rink for good. They were upset that she was going to show them up, and show the world they were wrong about her.
I heard she saved an old lady too by doing cpr. She seems like a good person at heart.
She is an inspiration to abused women who have nothing but a belief in themselves and no back-up plan. She did it by herself. So many people got in her way but she kept going.
This interview really makes me realized that Margot Robbie was so good in "I, Tonya". When Tonya said "What makes people think i can't" the cocky, rebellious and competitive attitudes are still there. Margot really captured it well and turned into the internal struggle that we all sorry for Tonya.
vic4370 Or the “cocky” comment comes from years and years of people judging her, back when she competed - telling her that her outfits weren’t good enough, her hair, her makeup or the music she chose to skate to wasn’t what they preferred... and being judged after what happened and to this day by people speculating. She’s obviously had enough. You don’t go through her upbringing and everything since without breaking at some point and becoming someone new - new and not to be messed with.
Tonya had MANY Judges doubting her talent because her outfit wasn't good enough or her makeup wasn't pretty. She has EVERY right to say that.
You’ll always be a champion Tonya.
Hope you have the peace and happiness that eluded you in your early life xx
Despite what happened outside the ice, Tonya still remains my favourite skater ever. I grew up watching her, and her incredible power on the ice, her physical abilities, eagerness every time she stepped on the ice, PERFECT TECHNIQUE ON CROSSOVERS, JUMPS AND SPINS, inspired and still inspires me every time I step on the ice. To my opinion , she still is the best, and unmatched , technical skater to this day
Tonya seems like a genuinely good person. Someone you can actually talk to, and chill with. Unlike Nancy, she comes off as someone who is cold hearted. Team Tonya all the way!
And I haven’t seen the movie either...
You'll love it! I've seen it over 12 times since I first saw it at the movie theater. Omg, great movie about her. See it!
Tonya is my favorite skater of all time. I remember watching this on TV and just being so impressed with her skills. She's still amazing to this day.
Imagine....they had to create a triple axle with cgi cause most skaters can't do it
@Azrael X There are more than 8 women who landed a triple axel, but only 8 landed it in international competition :)
@Azrael X The core message of your comment, stating that a triple axel is hard to pull off and very impressive was true nonetheless 😊
420 pounds of pressure landing on one leg
The civility of this thread is what I wish on the world.
@@drewhendley and I felt proud to get up from sitting on the ground 😭
I like Tonya! She was an awesome skater! Shouldn't have been banned for life
I agree
I just love Tonya. She is a survivor, she's tough and I love that about her. SHe was so young and had such little advantage. But...she was an awesome skater!
Of course people will comment about “the incident”and that’s their right to their opinion. But let’s be respectful about THIS video and acknowledge the complexity of this jump.
Cratemoving Sale People don't HAVE to be respectful about anything if they don't feel respect was given in the first place. She is receiving all of this heat by virtue of her own actions.
Jenn K Clay I didn’t say “have” but thanks for trolling my comment ❄️I, thank you⛸
Must have such strength in her legs!!
Can’t even go up big ass hill without being out of breath lol 😆
Why is Connie Chung spliced in the middle of Tonya explaining what a triple axel is? Connie doesn't even give correct information. "You probably twirl three times" did you just guess based on the name? Like damn, let the Olympian answer a question about her sport
Love her honesty and courage
I've watched Tonya Harding skate at the Clackamas Town Center... she had beauty and a lot of talent... I've always loved Tonya Harding!
This is something no one will EVER take away from her or deny her. Still amazing after all these years..
The United State Figure Skating Association is still a ruthless organization. I was a skater back then and if you didn't / don't fit the mold of a squeaky clean all American skater - you will not be supported. I don't believe the USFSA should have banned her for life, she could have been a skating coach and had a decent living.
Why would you ever want a person who thought that kind of thing was ok training the next generation of skaters?
VoteGreen Nah, she deserved it. She has a horrible attitude even still today. She would have done something illegal eventually.
You should play the lottery. You clearly can predict the future...
VoteGreen absolutely
If I was treated like shit I would have a shitty attitude
It’s been 24 years, people need to move on and leave her alone.
Then she should stop doing interviews about something that happened 24 years ago and people will.
MrS98VAC it’s not her fault that a group of people wanted to do a movie on her life, which sparked news outlets to want to do interviews.
Sure maybe she should stop talking about it, but people also need to move on.
It's not her fault however, she chose to participate in the project, she could have refused.
MrS98VAC actually she had no part in the making of the movie, but I see what you’re saying
I think she still likes the attention , and not everything is negative about Tonya. She has the to talk about her amazing skating technical achievements
this woman is a living legend whether you like it or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kerrigan had a terrible attitude behind the scenes.
P Auluknow Exactly she wasn't this peachy girl everyone made her out to be that's the image that They wanted to put out An "American sweetheart"....surrre
P Auluknow but because "looked the part" everyone looked over it. But her true colors with Baiul came out
Plus, she broke up her coach’s marriage.
@@Vitaluv oh yeah, Kerrigan was nasty mean and it showed with Baiul and with Disney and Mickey Mouse.
P Auluknow Exactly people call her the “victim” but what happened to her was truly horrible she wasn’t the “American sweetheart”
Give Tonya a break... a lot of people have commit worst than her and was forgiven and forgotten..People make mistakes.. after 24 years.. people should just move on. Tonya was one of the best skaters in the world and the first American woman to land a triple axel. She made history. People just like to pick on her coz she comes across as trailer trash and rough and not your typical ice princess.
Sarah - She’s not lying about anything!
Her crime was not being “forth-coming with information” when she DID (eventually) find out what her husband & his idiotic associates had been up to..... and she actually DID admit to that!
Do your research!
Her BIGGEST mistake was allowing herself to be the target of a narcissistic man/predator (Jeff Gillooly) who would become her husband - and then ultimately take her money, ruin her credit & destroy her life!
All narcissists do that - and he definitely fell into that category!
Tonya was looking for LOVE - and that made her easy prey for a narcissist. He showed up pretending to be everything she ever dreamed of (like they always do at first) so he could get his hands on the fortune he believed Tonya would have.
His mistake was trying to cut corners (by scheming with idiots) to take out Tonya’s competition whilst creating a ridiculous “security (for skaters) job” on the side!
Tonya didn’t need or want her competitors taken out FOR HER!
Watch her pre-Nancy-drama videos! She was already beating Nancy! She looked forward to beating Nancy AGAIN (and again....)
Jeff’s buddy didn’t REALLY hit Nancy on Tonya’s behalf. It came across that way (and as an added bonus in Jeff’s eyes)... but what he was REALLY AFTER was to create a PANIC for all Olympic skaters (and the like) - so they would all come running for security and his new job would be “in demand” which means he could charge outrageous prices for security for those who could afford it and would be afraid enough to be willing to pay it.
By the time Tonya found out what was happening, the damage had been done - and of course because she was the skater and competitor, all fingers started pointing at her!
Of course in the end, she lost everything she ever cared about - thanks to these idiots. They didn’t care though. They did their time and moved on with their lives like nothing happened. Tonya lost her career and her dream!
The story is always the same when you share your life with a narcissist; the details will be varied - but the story will always be the same in the end…
6% of the population is made up of narcissists… Therefore - for every 50 people you meet, 3 of them are going to be narcissists who prey on you (or those around you) if they think there is something to be gained (taken) from you.
Stay alert & watch out for them (fake friends, neighbors, relatives, coworkers, etc.) because they never come across that way in the beginning.
They manipulate and lie constantly. By the time you figure it out, it’s too late.
giocurve agreed and well said
I could not agree more, she deserves the love and respect she has had to do without all these years, it must have been horrible. As soon as you see and hear her ex husband and his friends talking you can see right through this, He wanted the money that would follow a gold, Tonya was ALL about the Gold. Bless you Tonya, enjoy it all baby
giocurve and she was never even found guilty for the assault but people still lawn her
I don't buy it Sarah. Harding was by far the better skater than that woman was. That woman couldn't even dream of a triple axel, her triple lutz wasn't really even that good. She was no threat to Harding. It was Harding's thug abusive husband who was behind it. I've done the research and I just don't buy it. Say what you want about Harding, she pushed the sport forward....she out jumped top MEN at the time and there are still hardly any women who can do what she did those 25 long years ago.
Why is Connie Chung giving the wrong information on a jump she knows nothing about. the triple Axel is 3 and half rotations Ms Chung NOT 3. Next time ABC use a real expert.
Nice pEcS
It’s technically 3.5 rotation but you “spin” 3x hence the term triple axel. You get the extra .5 since you take off completely from the front.
Why does this bring a tear to my eye
Always loved Tonya Harding I knew there was more to the story, and she paid dearly .
She’s such a badass
She is amazing ....world class
I'am Praying for you,...Tonya.
Midori made 3 axel history in 1988 with more exquisite landings in 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, and 96.
Ito made history did a jump out of the rink into a camera man.
I want to see more of her thanks for the interview
Tonya Harding NEVER got the credit she so deserved she will always remain my favorite
Love her, she is in the history forever
The BEST and finest jumper in women's figure skating of all time that America has ever produced..TO THIS DAY... point blank period.
Never forget people still love Mark Wahlberg and he beat a gay man blind. Tonya was abused and pressured into a bad situation. Does it excuse her? Nah.... But, like I said, remember Mark Wehlberg.
he almost beat a man to death and he's still allowed to act
Rico Baca it was not a real dick
Mark Wahlburg is a racist and committed an act of violence out of that hatred.
Clackamas town center. I've skated on that same rink. It's not there anymore though.
I'm not a skater but I used to go there and watch Tonya Harding skate... but at that time I didn't know who she was!
She was Amazing and I love her confidence give her a break people it's been years
I will always believe that Tonya is innocent of the Kerry thing back in the day! A beautiful woman inside and out and I noticed she resembles Stevie nicks a little. Best USA skater a true champion and survivor!
She goes to my rink and my friends have met her, btw the lady with the dark short brown hair and glasses used to be my coach!
Good girl. No one can take it away from you Tonya.
i have so much admiration and adoration for her. Its so tragic so much talent was wasted. I honestly think it's abbhorrent people still blame her for what happened. She didn't know it was going to happen, and when she did find out, she knew if she did tell she'd be betraying her abusive ex, and that she would be blamed for it no matter what she said. I don't blame her for not saying, it must have been an impossible situation, and while what she did was wrong, the world isn't black and white, we should have compassion for people even when they do wrong. We all do wrong, why we think it's acceptable to judge others just because their wrong happened to be in the public eye is beyond me.
I just watched the Movie I,Tonya. I have so much respect for her and all that she went thru and not to give up.Its a shame it had to come to this from a couple of losers her ex Jeff and Shawn to ruin all her hard work . So glad to see her happy now
People make mistakes no one perfect . Wipe your tears Tonya. I been through pain and hurt your not alone. Forgive and forgotten. Tonya your strong and your amazing lady.😃😀🤗😘
🎶Tonya,you are the brightest
You rose from the ashes and survived all the crashes when the rest of the world only laughed🎶
Of course the doubles couldn't do it, there are only a handful in the world who can
NO ONE LIKE TONYA ✨💫 NO ONE WILL EVER REACH HER LEVEL .
She was the best of the BEST!!!!
Incredible athlete no one can take that from her.
She made history!
👍👍👍
Tonya was banned from skating because of the incident with Nancy Kerrgian. Tonya landed the triple axle and she did it and nobody can take that away from her. I have the movie I Tonya and Margot Robbie played her perfectly. Margot Robbie should have won an oscar for this movie and she was amazing in this movie and she will always be known as Harley Quinn but she is Tonya Harding to me. I hope Margot Robbie wins an oscar like her co stars Brad Pitt and Leonardo Dicaprio.
2:15 im crying 🥺🥺
Of course she could pull it off, shes batman (according to the music)
To this day, only 8 people have successfully done a triple Axel, and Tonya is included in that.
thats not true, definitely more than 8 people have landed this jump, you're only taking into account how many women have landed it in competition before
amutinyinheaven wrong; one woman before her, not 8
Tonya was an amazing skater, she wasn’t very graceful but she was powerful!!! I really wished she would have gotten a medal! She was a fast spinner and such a high jumper! I wish she could have kept on skating
I love Tanya Harding.
Tonya ❣
😱
Tonya Harding was the first American woman to land the triple axel in competition, but not the first woman ever. Midori Ito deserves more recognition!
She should get that recognition in every country. Midori was the best ever and would still win anything and everything she entered today. Nobody still can do the things she did and I'm sure if she tried she could have done quads.
@@zonkster909 The great Midori Ito is the 1989 world champion and 1992 olympic silver medalist, She was the first woman to land the triple axel in world and olympic competition. Why is that Tonya has no olympic medal or world title if her triple axel is so much better?
Love you Tonya
I love you Tanya
She knew.
I love how they are so ethnocentric they completely ignore Midori ito, who landed bigger better triple axels far more frequently
StewNWT I like Ito too..you don’t have to admire just one..
Brilliant.
I know about be great at something and then being banned for one reason or another , jealousy can cause all sorts of problems
She is one badass woman.
Imagine if she wasn't surrounded by arseholes..... To do what she did with the arseholes was amazing she had heart n a dream to fulfil n no one was going to stop her being a champion :-) x
Unrelated but Tonya looks a lot like Stevie Nicks... Like they could be sisters
Two legends... Kind of makes sense
I love tonya
"You probably twirl three times"
Well, wouldn't it *have* to be three times in order to be a "triple"?
U know at that time, there was no fancy training equipment for her. So, she must have just kept trying and trying and trying. Fell and fell and fell on the cold hard ice in insane speed. So, I know she did some bad stuffs. But she was one heck of a competitor.
Gosh, that JUMP! Incredible! Perfect. I just wish Tonya would feel proud of herself realizing that she could do ANYTHING f she could do that. Christ, just apologize and move on! To hell with Nancy. She either accepts it or fuck her. This should not have ruined both of these girls lives.
I FUCKN love her so much! A legend! I don't give a shiit what her husband did. They didn't kill the Nancy.
Nickie Yonkers I know she’s amazing !
Tanya you’ are so amazing ! And much prettier than horse mouth Nancy !
So why didnt they just get tonya to do the jump for the movie
That's a stupid comment... unless they could use a historical video clip of her!
The Greatest U.S. skater ever .
Someone just did a quad
She had such a tough life xx she came out strong!!!! Xx her husband and bodyguard r arseholes for ruining her reputation
Not 3 times it’s 3 and 1/2
She turned out to be a really fine person...
Not until she comes to grips and fesses up. She knew.
Batman´s music was the right motivation to achieve that.
They really need to let her coach at least! She’d make a lot of gold medalists
The people who banned her from skating should be ashamed of themselves they should be disgusted in themselves, from day one they never made her welcome not even the other skaters, they disparaged her look down upon her because she wasn't like them, because she came from the other side of the tracks, all she wanted to do was Skate and they took that away from her, the judges disparaged her but one thing remains, 100 years from now 200 years from now, when the little girls who love to skate ask their teacher who was the first American woman who did the triple axle in competition, she can stand tall and say......... I TONYA.
It wasn't really history-making though... it made American history, not for the rest of the world.
Midori Ito is the one who made history
Okay?
'What ever made you think that you could do that?'
'what makes people think I can't?
BURNNNNNNN DAMMNNN SHE'S A QUEEENNN
I love Tonya. I know it's still debatable, but in my opinion, she had NOTHING to do with what happened to Nancy. I think it was her ex-husband & his "cronies" that planned it all. But with all the stress & crap Tonya had to put up with Jeff in her private life, it's no wonder her skating got bad after this competition. So sad. She really could had made it. She really should had left him years earlier. No woman deserves to be with losers like that, that abuse their women. No way....Love you Tonya! Always your fan til the end, sweety!
The olga korbut of figure skating!
Jesus loves Tonya Harding no matter what she does he died for she needs to be told that
Think she's familiar...
She got a raw deal.
Nope, no better no worse that she deserved. She knew.
She looks so old but has the body of a goddess. I love her personality tho
I love the asian journalist (sorry i don't know her name) saying 'you probably twirl 3 times' probably? really? lol
She was Wonder Woman
President TRUMP needs to fully & legally pardon Tonya Harding's past legal issues, and she needs to be allowed to skate publically /professionally and the ban so inhumanely & cruelly placed on her to not be able to skate professionally lifted from her shoulders, she deserves an honorate degree as well, she is all gold medal material and a #1 First Class athlete on Earth in her sport, time to let her live in peace people. No more hen pecking and no more harrassing her, those who do are sneaky , jealous sob's.
freedom of speech USA
"no one can do that".... uhh well in mens skating its actually pretty common
it's not really. She did the triple axel even better than the men's. Also fuck the men's , they are boring as shit. Women are more beautiful.
It's more easy for men's to do it because of the strength.
Men are supposed to be described with handsome not beautiful xDDDDDDD
Leslie Lights wow, how aggressive is that!? Hate much???
The thing being done includes “being female”.. so it’s common that men are female?
She made history already her name was made why did she have to do that I know Jeff coerced her in some ways it’s who you meet in life that fucks it up or brings it up
Scandal has less to with the miracle. The miracle should be the focus.
I like her. This may piss people off, I don’t care. If she was involved with the knee bashing, then she paid a hefty price. Of course it isn’t right to do something like that, but she was raised by a critical mother who could be abusive at times. The judges never liked her and much of the skating community looked down on her. Is it any wonder that she may have felt that no matter how well she skated, she was still going to get screwed over?
And, Nancy was no angel either. She was fucking her coach and broke up his marriage, she pouted after losing to Oksana Baiul and made fun of her for crying. Then, she cops an attitude at the Disney parade when she was getting paid $2,000,000 to be there.
Olympics champion figure skater at seven. The end
Jesus loves Tonya Harding no matter what she does God put her on this earth, Jesus died for her she needs to be told that.
Tonya Harding is not evil, but she isn't an angel.
She made mistakes, it's not the other person's fault.
She knew.
If she was so good . .. why did she NEED the incident? I mean really. She should have been confident in herself. Let's just say that while she was a great skater, she wasn't a great sister.
the assault was not her idea. she may not have even know about it before hand. and if she did she knew the criminals who planned the assault would kill her in a heartbeat if she ratted on them. she was in incredible danger. i dated a criminal for a while. i never opened my mouth about the things i had seen them steal because they would have killed me. and she was married to the guy. horror. they would have killed her. they look benign now that they were caught and paid their price in jail, but if they even thought she would open her mouth they would have killed her and she knew it.
Her mother was abusive, she was looked down on by the judges and some of her peers. That kind of stuff has a way of eroding self confidence.
Uhmmm Midori Ito is better.... so, there are other people that can do it Margo.
