Listen to all that rant that Steven makes to his friends before going full Godzilla-meets-Rambo-in-First-Blood - he's chewing them out on what Rose said they were. Rose said Pearl was her own person, that Amethyst was strong in the real way, that Garnet was a symbol of how powerful love could be. He's trying so desperately to demonize Rose - if she did the bad thing, she's no better than the Diamonds - with his own black-and-white view of morality (good is good, bad is bad) that he ends up realizing that all of what he perceives to be failings of Rose are actually failings of his. He abandoned his friends in a time of need. He killed and traumatized somebody into giving him a fearful sort of devotion. He deceived everybody over the past few months. He tried to murder White Diamond because, to him, she almost killed him, so wouldn't it make sense if he killed her back? He knows that the Diamonds knew not what they were doing - they're doing things expecting of Diamonds, they're playing their roles in the same way Spinel plays the goofball best friend or the Pearls play the singing secretaries. They had little to no self-awareness of the pain they inflicted on others - to them, Peridot's case to Yellow might as well have been Peridot being defective or something, she's not operating correctly. That does not excuse the monstrous actions of the Diamonds, but it does not mean that they will never deserve betterment or improvement opportunities. And Steven tried to deny White of hers because, to him, White is the one that has to be stopped. White's the one that gave him this pain. When he says "I'm a fraud, I'm a monster!" he means that his mom is a fraud, a monster. He's equated himself with what he thinks his mom is that he becomes what he perceives his mom to be: another one of those monsters in the movies the good guy has to fend off. When White says "that's not Steven anymore" when she tries to mind-meld with Stevenzilla, she refers to both Steven's deepening fear-based corruption and also the fact that Steven is denying himself his own identity in favor of his own image of his mom. Of course they had to hug it out with Stevenzilla - the Crystal Gems, Greg, Connie, Spinel, and the Diamonds had to demonstrate to him what Rose meant to THEM, that she is not what he thinks she was/is/will always be. Rose showed them unconditional love and support - she meant so much to them, despite her skeletons in her closet. And her kindness, her ability to become a better person, her ability to CHANGE HER MIND is what matters most. And if she meant that much to them, Rose's impact on Steven should be viewed from that sense. But Steven refused to see it from that sense because all he could think were the moments stuck in his mind. He equates every single bad thing that happened to him with his mom.

Hal Emmerich Because for almost his entire life he was reminded that he had Roses gem and was her son. Even called Rose or Pink by gems he barely knew! And when he thought he was in the clear Spinel came along was the ONLY homeworld gem who wanted to kill Steven for being Steven. She was angry that Pink was gone but she’s the only one who blamed STEVEN for his moms mistakes. And when White put her hand near his stomach I noticed that poor Steven flinched and I can’t blame him. The trams builds up and just goes downhill from there.
I love how he was literally *disgusted* by the shards falling in his hand. Like, he nearly pulled away from them before they could land, like it was a gross bug or somn
I love how, dispite the fact that we all knew that she had shattered, you still managed to deliver the bone chilling shock of the reveal. Kudos to you. Now I’ll be in my corner, shaking with the emotions I can feel through your excellent portrayal of Steven’s reaction.
Oh god that perfectly timed thunder bolt at the end hit me badly. Your really good at hitting those emotions with your animations, good job! The only thing I noticed that was a little off was the breathing, it just didn’t quite look right.
I love the details of this, like the shaky hand as he sees Jasper's fragments fall over his hand. The moment of "Oh shIT" before falling back, just. *Chef's kiss* beautiful.

Steven's almost childish triumph, his mounting confusion (I love the shot overhead where he rubs his neck), his relief when he thinks she's just been poofed, his utter horror at dropping her shards and shifting back to his normal form. I loved the little detail of his hands shaking as he holds the fragments and tries to heal them. This is so effective, wow. Thank you for this.

I gotta love that hand movement when we went to go hold Jasper's gem. His hand shook like it was in shock, something I would do, and then moved away, dropping all of them. That, That is amazing.

This should have been something covered. They didn't handle Jasper well in the end. Steven basically did what he did with Spinel and shrugged her off to someone else. If she died she would have had her legacy kept. I don't like the thought of killing Jasper except in how it would relate to the story and solidify how far Steven's trauma digs.

I feel like the show really glossed over how messed up that is in Steven's perspective. This perfectly captures how it should of been shown in the show, with the shattered part not being in Steven's direct sight until he flipped the rock over; that was genius. No one would of suspected that.
Ok you did such an excellent job! Like how it took a while for Steven to uncover the gem and realise what he did, I absolutely love how when Steven takes the gem in his hand he immedietly drops it once he sees it. This is definitely how it went down in the show! The atmosphere is amazing, this animation really comes to life, fantastic job!
I think Jasper is a bad Chartres for how the fandom romanticises her but...Steven shattering a Gem...I never considered it even her... especially since this was straight up murder

I really wished they had actually shown us what happened between Steven attacking Jasper and him running up to the house (back to his original self) and this looks and feels perfect in filling that gap. Steven's reactions, the timing of everything, the shock value, it's all just well done and amazing!

I kinda wish they showed the process of Steven discovering Jaspers gem shards, it wouldve been cool to share the shock with Steven at that moment in my opinion, And if a scene like this occurred as Steven found the shards it couldve further established Stevens later thoughts of considering himself to be a monster, just like the diamonds used to be.

I hope everyone realizes that the roles could've been easily swapped here. The only difference is that Jasper wouldn't have been able to bring him back.

They didn't handle Jasper well in the end. Steven basically did what he did with Spinel and shrugged her off to someone else. If she died she would have had her legacy kept. I don't like the thought of killing Jasper except in how it would relate to the story and solidify how far Steven's trauma digs.

You really did an awesome job at portraying how Steven would feel! The lines are also in sync with his character a lot/ I loved that "Wha-aaaaat?!" cause I felt like it was something Steven would say and I even read it in his voice. You're awesome .:D

I feel like the show really glossed over how messed up that is in Steven's perspective. This perfectly captures how it should of been shown in the show, with the shattered part not being in Steven's direct sight until he flipped the rock over; that was genius. No one would of suspected that.

Ok you did such an excellent job! Like how it took a while for Steven to uncover the gem and realise what he did, I absolutely love how when Steven takes the gem in his hand he immedietly drops it once he sees it. This is definitely how it went down in the show! The atmosphere is amazing, this animation really comes to life, fantastic job!
I think Jasper is a bad Chartres for how the fandom romanticises her but...Steven shattering a Gem...I never considered it even her... especially since this was straight up murder

Wow. That was amazing. The way he dropped her shattered gem and fell over, the intense cacophony of thoughts and memories, and the final perfectly timed thunder were amazingly well done!
I kinda wish they showed the process of Steven discovering Jaspers gem shards, it wouldve been cool to share the shock with Steven at that moment in my opinion, And if a scene like this occurred as Steven found the shards it couldve further established Stevens later thoughts of considering himself to be a monster, just like the diamonds used to be.
I almost thought this was a deleted scene for a hot minute! That's how amazing this is!! Good job!!
