Please do more research, 35 years of being in Sydney I know he is missing information and fairly inaccurate. We have a lot of rules though. Sydney is an outdoor city which is why things close early. People are outside all day and finish about 10pm unless they’re clubbing.
Mate. Australian food are meat & 3 vegetables, meat pies & tomato sauce, fish & chips and chiko rolls. You’re lucky if you haven’t been able to find it. It’s English stodge.

What century are you living in? No Chiko rolls around here. Mostly the same old shit though. Nothing exiting just things they think the Brit’s and tourists might like such as tasteless brunch platters with tomato, toast, eggs and advocardo on toast. Pizza, McDonalds and KFC. Pub grub is usually burgers and steak and chips. That’s because a lot of places just don’t make money anymore serving food. It costs too much to run a business and people don’t go out anymore due to bad public transport, alcohol laws and no or expensive parking. Too much gentrification and bad urban design. Too many arseholes in Govt.

Sydney and Australia as a whole is basically good for people who want to come study and work! Healthcare is good here and you will feel like it is a safe country to live in. The best thing for tourists is its nature! It has amazing beaches and wildlife. And that's about it for the good points. For most people especially those who come from a poor country or war torn country the above is all that will matter to them! But there are plenty of people who also want more out of a country...
The weather in Sydney is horrible!! Yes it used to be good USED TO BE! NOW? It's 4 seasons in a day! It rains so freaking much! Winter is bad here, obviously not as cold as Russia or some other countries in Europe but it's not what the internet tells you about winter in Sydney. It gets cold and the kind of cold that gets into your bones cold! There has been flash flooding here continuously for the past few years! And when it is finally summer it's either so humid that you can't even breathe and bushfires can be smelled from everywhere or it's yet again raining and storming! Sometimes you see more sun even though it's still cold but you see more sun in the winter than summer lol so no the weather isn't one of the best in the world like some blogs tell you!
Night-life here is shocking! Like the video tells you, if you want a night-life that's vibrant and full of people you will not find it here! There are a few festivals scattered around the year, some clubs and bars but it's nothing and still very dead compared to places in U.S or Europe or even Middle East or Asia! It's just a heavily day orientated country. Everything you would want to do as a night owl besides drinking alcohol won't happen here! Shops close at 5pm! Except on Thursday where they stay open till 9pm lmao! So if you work 9am-5pm mon-fri you and want to go do your hair and nails etc you either have to rush right after work on Thur or do it on Saturday BEFORE 5PM! Only shops open past 5 are for grocery shopping and convenience stores lol the whole country is very much a 9am-5pm routine based country!
Although Australia claims to be a multicultural society and in many ways it is. It has immigrants here from all over the world! BUT.. the majority of them all stick to their own kind here! So it's not really multicultural because most of them are really segregated. Asians stick with Asians. Arabs stick with Arabs. Aussies stick with Aussies. Wogs stick with wogs. There are small amount of people who do have friends from different nationalities but for the most part everyone else you will see stick with their own race! It's not as diverse as you may think! And in some ways it can also feel racist. The only good thing that is diverse is the food options here. Because there are so many different nationalities and they all have their own communities you will get to eat authentic Thai food or authentic Indian food for example. But as far as the people themselves mixing with one another... no majority do not!
Definitely agree with over regulation! It is nicknamed the "nanny state" for a reason! And I don't completely blame the government. Australians themselves love to be told what to do and how to do it! They don't like to think outside the box unfortunately! Perfect example of it was the lockout laws for clubs or the border laws during pandemic. The mentality here is if there is a danger to one person there is a danger to everyone. One of the reasons for example that most high rise hotels in the city don't have balconies is because in the past there were some suicides. So instead of thinking well there are a small minority of people that might possibly do that we shouldn't punish all others for it.. no they just put a regulation in to not have balconies. There's always some complaints with their regulations but the majority just accept it and don't do anything about it. Fines is something the Government has gotten away with for so long in this country and they keep raising the fines too and no one seems to even question why a parking fine that used to be $65 is now over $200. It's just accepted because it's the government and no one knows their people more than this government! They know they can just keep raising prices and their people will just accept it!
Social life is pretty bad here! It's the whole way of life here that wears you down and doesn't make your social life a priority here. Nothing motivates you to go out and be social. Things close early, streets are dead and so quiet, most people are too tired from work all day and the energy and vibe in the streets are just so quiet and suburban, you don't see alot of people walking everywhere in the streets like you see in other countries. It almost has a lonely, cold feel to it. Most people want to catch up on the weekends! The weekends are the biggest 2 days of Aussies lives. They cram everything in on the weekends. Rest of the week they go from work to home and maybe to a pub. And it's the whole system and design of the country that promotes that kind of lifestyle!
Art, culture, music is nothing like other countries! It's almost non existent compared to other countries!
Finally, most Sydney people are not friendly and welcoming! They are closed minded and very robotic at times.
To conclude, if you care about working and studying or need Medicare then Sydney and Australia is the place for you! If you want more out of your life than to work work work then stay far far away! Ofcourse this is all rich peoples problems compared to some countries out there so of course Australia is not the worst out there but definitely way too far and isolated in not just location in the world, you will also feel isolated within the country itself if you are used to a country with alot more life in the streets!

Mostly true. Australians generally have the mentality after work (during the week) of going home and plugging into the computer of T.V. In summer they may head to the beach but this is the minority. Europeans are MUCH more likely to catch up at the end of the day. Yes, Sydney gets cold out in the suburbs away from the coast where most people live. Close to 0c in many suburbs at night in winter is common.

The WORST thing about Sydney are the tolls.
Internet speed is pretty bad compared to other developed countries but it's good enough that it doesn't need to buffer when watching YT or streaming a movie.
No local Australian food but I'd happily take a plethora of multicultural food anyday of the week.
Agreed that Sydney nightlife is shit but I don't mind.

And that was all you had to do .

A lot of Europe is also pretty bad in that sense, except for places like Madrid. Everything is closed in Germany on the weekends.

We experienced a lot of rain during spring . We normally get a lot of sunshine in Sydney and during the recent summer , the weather was good . So do not judge because we were getting some bad weather . I always find that my relatives from overseas , always complain about things when they come here. Yet we take them everywhere and they have no appreciation for anything that we have done from them . When I was overseas , my relatives hardly took us anywhere and most didn’t want to associate with us . Europeans are very hard to please , in my opinion . Our internet can be slow at times because the government took short cuts to save money and it caused problems to our internet but it isn’t as bad as you think . In fact we developed optic fibres and wifi . It is the government that is the problem , not Australia . There is sone truth with what you are saying but you are making it sound worse than what it is . Look at the positives and not the negatives and Allow your self to adjust to a different life style . Covid crisis did crush our night life but it is getting better . Anyway best of luck with what ever you do and when you go back to Europe , just remember the good times you had instead of dwelling on the negatives .

Bring your Tent if you are coming to Australia so you have somewhere to live in what is going to be a very long and expensive Rental Accommodation Crisis. Fuel/Petrol/Gas is about $2.00 a litre so if you dream of driving around a very large country bring some deep pockets. We have Shortages of food at the supermarkets and everything is super expensive.....just do your own research....the good news is there is lots of work around and the 2 year rain event in Sydney will hopefully be gone by the end of the year.

The only problem with Sydney is that if you want to live in an area with good amenities and access to beaches and the city you need about 5 million bucks . If you’ve got that you can have a good life. If you get packed in the the rest of the gronks (like I was) it’s a shithole.
There are some great places outside of the beaches if you can tear yourself away from the hot sand up your bum and burning sun and potential skin cancer life ahead..

Endless traffic jams, overloaded public transport, terrible government and getting worse, overloaded health system, increasingly expensive health care due to underfunding of the national health system, environmental degradation, ugly new highrises, pretentious people obsessed with real estate, obsession with sport over intellectual pursuits, expensive housing, costs more to hire a trades person than to see a lawyer, freezing in winter, baking in summer and terrible Wifi. Most people do not live near the harbour. They live in endless suburbs that go on for miles. The coffee is still the best in the world. But even that is going downhill.

Melbourne has late night cafes and restaurants which is why it is considered the European capital. Sydney used to have an amazing party scene and late night life in the 90s and 00's but the high cost of real estate, the lock out laws and finally Covid have completely killed it.

I lived in Sydney for 5 years and i can differently agree with all these points particularly it been a high regulated country which drives you crazy! Speeding fines are massive!!. Sydney is a great city but you need to be earning 100k + per year to enjoy it i feel.

The light bulb issue only comes into play for large commercial businesses. Commercial buildings will certainly contract electricians to change fluro lights etc. due to insurance policies, but yes, for private applications no one calls an electrician for a bulb lol. And god only knows what that batman thing was about.
I've never lived outside of Australia but have lived an hour north of Sydney my whole life until recently, now I live in Perth. If you think all this about Sydney, come live in Perth

Hotter, drier summers than most other cities (less green). Almost nowhere you can live without a car. Sydney and Melbourne have options for this.

Yes, Sydney transport is not as good as some European cities but is much better than most people realise. Sydney has invested much in public transportation over the last 10 to 15 years. The new Metro line that opened in 2019 is excellent. The new Light Rail through the CBD, also opened in 2020, has transformed the CBD. Over the next two years, a new Metro line and a Light Rail line will be operational. By 2030, two more Metro lines will be added, another Light Rail line and almost all buses will be electric. Over the last 10 years, there has been a significant increase in the bus network. Sydney is in the top 5 ferry networks in the world. On many parts of the transport network, there is only a 5-minute wait for the next service during peak times.
The Sydney transport system bets almost all North American cities if you come from North America. New York is the only USA with a more significant share of people using public transport.
Parramatta, Sydney’s second CBD, is undergoing a significant transformation. Sydney is more and more getting to the point where there are distributed employment centres across the city, making the 30-minute journey to work possible.
While the rail system is OK, the light snail is just a very slow tourist ride, bus routes have been cancelled all over Sydney and your "transformation" of Parramatta (the name derived from the Aboriginal word meaning place where the eels lie down - no eels left now!) is the destruction of Australian's oldest city, to suit developers.
You must live in the North? Somewhere nice with good transport? There hasn’t been a train to Bankstown Station on weekends since 2019 due to this disastrous Metro project that just doesn’t seem to get finished ever. That is because they don’t give a shit about ordinary people. They want their new airport line and that is that. You catch a train somewhere these days and you never know if you will get home. Those nightmare bus rail replacements take hours to get somewhere and are over crowded and like a Luna park ride without the screams. You defiantly don’t live in one of those Govt areas.
As a Sydneysider myself, I find all of these observations to be fair! We could really learn a lot from other countries!
1. i agree. when i got here in 2002, i could only find one internet cafe around my place (neutral bay). i had to walk up there for about 40 minutes from where i lived to keep in touch with my friend. also internet connection was based on phone modem. i used to hear those connecting noise whenever accessing an internet. even these days, the internet goes off quite often at work.
2. food wise, i would say this can be depending on perspective. i dont really care. but food price is very expensive. any crappy food starts from 20 bucks in 2024.
3. very much agree. i assume it's related to the climate change. very dramatic.
4. bad traffic. very very true. especially if you use public transport crossing the damn harbour bridge, the train sometimes stop for 10 minutes to 1 hour. the transport officers walk around and check your opal card. also they often do trackwork which you eventually either have to drive or find a taxi to commute to the workplace. back in 2019 new years day, when andrew constace was the former nsw transport minister made a big chaos on train schedule. everyone had to stay in townhall station for several hours to get home.
5. the worst thing of all is housing.. unless you earn more than 130k or more, you probably have to look for a place in a little bit unsafe area or a defective apartment to live. sydney is definitely not a city for beginers. sydney is for rich people. perhaps overseas investors buy off homes and take your hard-earned salary with high rent.
Shops and post office close too. Employed person has to take a holiday day to go to the post office or a bank .
In the old days post office and banks were open Saturday mornings, but some shops closed midday on Wednesdays. High wages in Australia mean shops close early or in 5 day week working times as it's to expensive to pay all the overtime pay/penalty rates etc etc required for workers after hours.

Kings Cross used to be the 24 hour place with cafes and restaurants open 24 hours...it was such an amazing place to live before the year 2000 ... but the Berejiklian govt wanted everyone tucked up in bed early and no fun allowed so they sold Kings Cross to developers and thats what you have now, no life.
Used to be full of prostitution and drugs and drunks starting fights … what was so great about that?
Yeah as someone who lived in Sydney from 1995-2000 it breaks my heart that the nightlclub scene has been killed.
I lived in the cross from 2013 to 2019, I thought it was great when I first moved there (didn't know how it was earlier) but it really went down hill till 2019, they changed the laws in relation to bars,clubs,pubs opening hours etc which effectively meant after midnight it was as dead as a dodo, where before it was really busy untill 3-4am , I think because of problems with violence, drunks fighting etc , a couple of people died and so they changed the rules to reduce the violence which pretty much killed the place.....

I grew up in Sydney but now live in California. This is a completely fair and realistic overview of life in Sydney. Nightlife? What’s that? Rain? Love it. Slow internet? That’s a hard one but I’ll try to overlook that. Lack of public ransit? Sydney is still way better than California.
As a retiree I think it’s a great place for retirement if your income is sufficiently high to accommodate the high cost of living.
for me living here since i was born for 34 years now some of the reasons are.
1) its turning more and more into a big brother state cameras everywhere except where you actually need them.
2) rules & regulations are becoming worse and worse. its going to get to a point where you cant hold hands, you cant kiss in public etc.
3) the parking and basic stuff are becoming ridiculous. i use to park at warwick farm station before catching a train. free parking. now its blocked of with paid for parking only. and the rules are ridiculous. signs say 18 hours monday-sunday free as long as you use an opal card as a commuter i used an opal card it still charged me $30 as a non commuter.
4) that theres hardly any shops open past 9-11pm. when i went to new york a few years ago. and other parts of america. everything was basically 24-7 or open until about 3am.
5) i wouldnt harm or try to offend anyone, but i am a bit of a nudist. and theres no clothing optional venus. the only venues are gay beaches, except for cobblers thats a bit to far for regular visits. & a 2 resorts which are impossible for singles to get into. some places around europe like czech republic. i seen on websites. theres heaps of areas that allow nudity (as long as your not harming anyone or sexual acts). i’ve seen girls & guys there go for naked hikes with no clothes. jumping on trains walking into restauarant. everyone just smiles and doesnt really care.. some even walk past policeman and they seem to not care either

When I was in Sydney in 2005 2006 it had not rained in over 10 years so this much be somthing new.
At that time, we were in El Nino. Currently, in La Nina.

The problem is that we tend to compare Australia with Europe. In European cities the transport is very very good and night life amazing with a lot of things going on
Compare it to even cities indeveloping countries there is literally n nothing to do in sydney and tolls being so expensive just deters people even travelling toCBD which is prolly the only lace where anything happens.
I'm envious of Europe doing a fab nightlife. I can understand given how shitty their weather is compared to here.

Australia had a particularly unnatural inception as a prison colony not so long ago in historical terms. The type of contemptible cur, obsessively domineering, standover merchant protection racket crony slime as that do well in Australia would not seem to have changed too much in around a couple of hundred years as from when the prison wardens and prison warden bureaucrats and their lackeys, and the free settlers that found it advantageous to curry favour with such relatively unaccountable kings of the castle, were forming a nation that was born with a silver spoon in its mouth and within a relatively short time had the highest rate of youth suicide in the industrialised world.
What I personally have noticed that the curs of mainstream Australia specialise in (am an Australian national myself but am not typical of them, apart from some superficialities of accent etc.) is grievously abusing men of their own society (perhaps some women as well) in a quintessentially Australian, crony authoritarian type of evil control freak manner and, if disapproving of the reaction, pretentiously pontificating on what they think the reaction should have been but if approving of the reaction, saying “look, that’s how ‘we’ Australians act”, whilst said curs of mainstream Australia deceitfully continue their cowardly behaviour as necessary to maintain their positions of safety and advantage from where they can inflict abuse without incurring too much risk to themselves (in that regard, the slimy, satanic bludgers have for a long time reminded me of people that cripple children for begging purposes, or species of animals that eat their own offspring, obviously not in the specifics of the action but in the extraordinarily heinous and spinelessly self-serving similar nature of their cringeworthy cowardice).
The mainstream media driven type of grievously abusively disorientating, untenably duplicitous, toxic dishonesty that poisons many first world countries is, with Australia’s prison warden heritage, particularly sinister in Australia not only because such toxic dishonesty is very obnoxiously engaged in but because the inherent crony brand of authoritarianism and according mob-mentality, crony brand of inherent indifference transmuted into a bully-boy style of accentuated rogue contemptuousness and frequently reinforced with various vindictive, predatory further abuses, particularly prominent in powerful institutions in Australia, makes such toxic dishonesty at a systemic level particularly hard to root out.
You might think of leaving to live in another country you would be a great deal happier .

I live in Perth and OH MY GOD the internet is so bad!!! During the pandemic I used to drop out of Teams calls all the time.
“Australia is too far away.” It’s actually not bad nowadays to be far away from the wars and drama that’s happening in other countries.
Best advice is to forget Sydney. It's too crowded, it's too expensive, it's too regulated, it shuts up shop too early, there is no night life, the beaches are too crowded and too polluted and it rains too much.
So which city would you recommend?
@@Aliya-tc5un My favourite from just visiting are Brisbane Perth and somewhere a bit quieter but made up for with so much nature and stunning scenery Hobart. Or if in Sydney just go 40 minutes south down the freeway to the natural wonders, endless sandy surf beaches and mountain rainforest along the escarpment at Wollongong, tree top walking above the untouched rainforest at Jambaroo, Fitzroy falls and other cascading natural waterfalls. Skydiving over the ocean and beaches of Wollongong and Jambaroo adventure park, the largest water theme park in NSW. Also beyond down the south coast with endless deserted unspoiled beaches and coastal scenery through seaside villages and towns. Well worth sparing at least a weekend or more exploring.. Sydney and to a lesser extent Melbourne are extremely expensive for food entertainment and general everyday costs and it's easy to get caught in the price gouging tourist traps. Adelaide, yehnah. Not much there.

I was so shocked to see your comments about the weather. I’m guessing you’ve arrived after March 2020. We had a cycle that comes ~ once every 15 years and last s for a few years. This cycle finished early 2023. We are sub-tropical which means we always get more rain but in very short periods of time. Compared to Melbourne which gets little bits of rain for most of the year and is very very unpredictable. The boat rule has a lot to do with the busiest ferry network in the world. You will die if you fall into a ferry path. I can see your other comments.

Just got back to the US after visiting Australia from the US and this video pretty much nailed it. The only thing we didn’t notice was the unpredictable weather, but then again we weren’t there long enough to really notice that. The big brother thing is real and seems very ridiculous and pointless at times. There’s also seems to be growing racial tensions in Australia and not having the freedom of speech protections that we have in the US actually seems to make the situation worse. People seem to hide their true feelings on racial topics so they never really get talked about or resolved. I think Australia needs more open and honest conversations on race before it can make real progress. On the whole Australia is a beautiful and wonderful place. I can’t imagine a nice city to live in than Sydney…if you can afford it.
No gun culture, mass shootings, high crime (only among the criminal class) no black lives matter riots of killings, no endless cities of homeless people, .Its safe maybe quiet but I would not even want to visit the US let alone live there.
Sydney is way over-priced property and goods in general, poor roads, too many migrants that dont give a shit about each other! Not friendly people. Parking a nightmare, good to visit for 24 hours but then you must get out fast!

1. It’s quite easy to order off Amazon but the range of products on the Australian Amazon website has far less variety than on the American version so I (personally) mainly use it only to buy tech. For nicher products shipping can be very expensive. I mean literally more expensive than the product itself :(
2. It depends which suburbs you are at. Suburbs like Eastern suburbs with a more densely populated Asian population will have a range of Korean food. There are Korean convenience stores, kbbq places, street food etc.
3. Yes there is definitely a big Christian community
