That's fantastic to her Margaret! I have other videos on my channel with helpful information for speaking up in meetings. Here is one video: ua-cam.com/video/SSFVQ0sMsek/v-deo.html and here is a more recent one: ua-cam.com/video/6xu7zRaJUjE/v-deo.html I hope these videos can help you too. Thanks for watching!
That is the video I have been searching since long....I really want to improve my communication skills and leadership skills. Many Thanks to Kara Ronin.
I never speak up in meetings. Sometimes, I have something to say and don't say it cos I'm waiting to articulate it perfectly which makes me end up missing the opportunity. I also was discouraged from speaking up as a child. I still struggle with that now
Thank you for watching Mercy! It's very common to wait until you can perfectly articulate what you want to say in meetings, but you're right it does make you end up missing opportunities. And sometimes, other people will jump in and say exactly what you were thinking! This happened to me too. I also grew up in a culture where speaking up wasn't encouraged. Please try to reverse this programming. It's your right to speak up and people WANT to know what you think!
This is good info in the general sense. Sometimes though you have to know when to be quiet and when to speak up. For example being in a meeting with higher ups.
Thanks for watching Jeremy! I'm glad you liked the video. What I was talking about at that point in the video was that people try a lot of different things to increase their visibility (such as buy books and self study). But they overlook a really easy thing they can do - that is to speak up in meetings. Study and learning new skills is important, but it's also important to speak up in meetings so you can be visible. Does that clarify the confusion?
Many thanks!
Thank you Kara, I found your video very helpful to assist me in my leadership role, including being confident when speaking in meetings.

Usually I don’t have any opinion or ideas to share or sometimes I just don’t know what to say
That's very common.
