    Beautiful garden!!! And thank you for all the info on each plant, your experience with them and suggestion. The hardest part can be to get started and info certainly helps.
    Last year my little garden was washed out by rain and the second planting was eaten by birds 🥴🤪 PNW fun 😂

    Good morning! Watching while it rains here. I can’t wait to get our garden in (southern Ohio). My Pappaw always said not to plant your (summer) garden until after Mother’s Day. It’s been warm enough but it’s been so wet, I will have to wait just a little longer. This will be our first garden on this property. The soil here is so different than our other house so I am excited to see how it goes!

    What part of Maine did you live in ? My fellow New Englander...lol I was born and raised in R.I. but we are hoping to leave and settle in another state. My husband just got hired at a really good job. He is a licensed electrician but hasn't worked in a few years. He had to have surgery and then when he could go back to work not many people were hiring. So we need to look into moving towards Conn. I wanted to live in New Hampshire or Maine. We have good friends Rumford Maine and she knows how much I love the mountains and her place has these beautiful mountains and a church kinda in the middle and it could be on a post card it's so beautiful. She also sent me some pictures of her and her daughter kayaking on a lake and I told her that the next time we go and visit I must try it. It takes us almost 5 hours of driving to get to her place, but it's worth it. Do your parents or sister still live in Maine ? I would love to have your knowledge. I know I say this a lot, but you really blow me away with your vlogs. I love to have you for a best friend because when ever I needed a answer to something I bet 9 out of 10 times you got the answer..lol you do teach your utubers alot and the way you explain things make it easy for us to understand and remember !! I can't wait to see more baby goats being born. Do you still have chickens and pigs on your Homestead? If you do have you ever used them for food ? 🐐🥦👩‍🌾🚜

      We still have chickens and pigs and we definitely use them for food! We actually have a butcher date for our pigs for this fall, and we will be canning up old layers this fall too. I lived in the Bangor area in Maine and my dad and sister still live there! As well as a couple Aunts and cousins. CONGRATS on the new job for hubby! That's amazing!!

    You can eat the elephant garlic "scapes" - the flowering stems! Edit: Oh, I posted before you said this! :D
    Sprouting out of the ground in late spring, garlic scapes are thin, curly, green stems, resembling grass or wild onions. Growers cut them off to allow more of the plant’s resources to stay focused within the bulb. Young ones are tender and delicious. They generally have a milder taste than the cloves, similar to shallots or chives. They can be diced up finely and added to various dishes for extra flavor, or sautéed in olive oil and enjoyed on their own.
    Curling garlic scape tendrils often include a bulge in the middle. This is the unopened flower of the plant. It is also edible, though not as tender as the rest of the stem. Some people cut it off and discard it, while others simply eat it.
    If you are growing garlic and you want big, flavorful bulbs, you’ll want to cut off the scapes as they emerge in early summer, before the plant flowers. The reason for this is so that the plant can put its energy in the bulb rather than the flowers that will emerge.
    Found at: farmers almanac web page - what the heck are garlic scapes

    Wonderful garden tour!! Please show the cactuses in bloom, bet they're gorgeous!! Does your greenstalk with the strawberries spend the winter in the high tunnel?
    Haven't been able to plant strawberries for several years. The winters here seem to really take a toll on them, but I am hoping to try again this year. As always, thank you for all the information! God bless!

    Once again, I love what you have done. Do you find that the ground cover depletes the nutrition necessary in the soil? How do you fertilize it?
    My strawberries are in green stalks as well. I put in the same type I believe, plus 25 of another type and I have no clue what type are which. I have found that my greens aren't growing in the greenstalks very well, which is odd. The north side is all stunted for everything I planted.
    I was going to say other things, but totally forgot what it was. LOL

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  Рік тому +2

      Do you mean the mulch? As long as the barky mulch is on top and not where the roots are there isn't a nutrient competition. We amend the beds in the fall and winter with manure from the barn and sometimes soil from the pond area of the property. And I do sprinkle over a 10-10-10 fertilizer in spring.

    Got any suggestions about Roly Pollies? I have some veggies planted in pots on my porch and discovered tonight that a couple pots were TEEMING with them. The plants are still small and some just sprouted. I used DE but the rain in KY is so unpredictable (as I am sure you know lol).

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  Рік тому +2

      The rolly pollies are SO BAD this year!!! I've been starting seeds in pots and planting them out after they are bigger and it's been okay. They don't seem to go after more established or larger seedlings.

      @@SageandStoneHomestead It's just my bush beans but I was still SHOCKED at the amount crawling all in the pot. I even saw some burrowing down the stalk of the beans into the dirt. They just showed up tonight. I check my plants every night after dark just checking for pests and it was sudden. Even spotted a bunch in a flower bed where I have my calendula planted. I wonder if it is because our winter was kind of mild.
