Arcade Game: Lady Bug (1981 Universal)

- A maze game in a similar fashion to pac-man. In Lady Bug you guide a bug through a "Pac-Man" style maze, eating dots, and avoiding monsters. Collect letters to spell EXTRA for a bonus life (just like in "Mr. Do!"), and SPECIAL for an extra credit. The maze has rotating doors which are just enough to give the game a slightly different feel than the Pac-Man series.
My favorite game when I was a teenager.

My mom's too. Brother & I would come home from school & hear her playing the game. Hooting & hollering because she was level 90 something & those bugs were fast. Miss those days. She has passed also.

That's it. This is the game I played and I was trying to remember this game. I thought it was called Spider. Finally I found the game. I played this on the arcade decades ago.

I used to play Lady Bug a lot in the shop next door. I got to the end and the Lady Bug gets married on a special screen!

There's no 'end'. The First 18 levels has different vegetables as bonus, hereafter the level 18 'Horseradish' will keep coming at least to part 98 which are my personal record.
The wedding scene is when you spell SPECIAL in red letters, then you get af free credit and the wedding scene will show and the game will then skip to the next level.
Woe never made it to the end I never thought it would end nice to know that.

I used to play this at a K.O.A. campsite in Seattle. It's the only arcade game I ever played that was only 10 cents!
This, Mouse Trap and Ms. Pac-Man were my favorite maze games!

I had a friend whose parents had rented the actual arcade cabinet for their birthday. It was so fun, wish they would port this to switch.
I was given an arcade cabinet of this game a few years ago. The screen flickers a bit (needs a cap) set), but is still awesome to own an original cabinet.

I'm guessing the SPECIAL is just extra points? I like ColecoVision's version of getting SPECIAL by having the vegetables randomly pop up around an empty maze.
Well, of course they had to find something special, in the arcade you get a free game, if you are playing at home you need to feel rewarded as well, but "a free game" means nothing when you bought the game, and you can play all you like.
I played Ladybug in the arcade and on my Colecovision, it was one of the best ports I ever had.
Now I still play Ladybug on MAME, just got to level 19 for the very first time in the arcade version (no cheats, no idea how you can cheat, actually), with 5 lives.

That was one of the cool things about the coin-op versions of some Universal titles. This wasn't the only one that had a free-game reward if you played well!

Way better than Osman, and up there with Ghost n Ghouls and Bombjack.
I loved pacman style games this was my favorite compared to pacman it wasn't popular I never seen it in arcades except when I used to go to the theater to see a movie.

as a huge Pac-man fan, I agree (although it seems leagues easier). But that's easy to do when you're essentially just modding a preexisting idea. I really wish I knew about this game before today, though!

I got the highest score on this in a Jacksonville, FL arcade. Keg and Coin. Don't remember the exact score.
