The things which makes Robben Ford such a distinguished blues player is his time feel. Most blues player are all over the place in terms of timing. Robben is a master of time feel.
absolutely -- 100% -- incredible, impeccable time - he can weave phrases that seamlessly spawn a myriad of new phrases flying over the bar line, and/or the meter with virtuousic abandon -- plays as deep in the pocket as one can imagine.... a true master
Dude is just so good, so tasty, so melodic all the time. I saw him and Larry Carlton some years ago and my head is still spinning from all the tastiness.
Perfect as always . Robben Ford is an American icon ! And thanks to those amazing Italian musicians that accompanied him . They are world Class Musicians !
It's not just a pleasure to listen to Robben play, it's also a pleasure to listen to him speak. He comes across as a thoughtful, intelligent guy; I wish I could know him personally.
I really love how Robben supports, well, himself in this video. For me, he's one of the few guitarists that excel at it. That's what I aspire to be able to do but it's so much harder for me than crank out an acceptable solo. Fool's Paradise is just heavenly.
I'm in awe of Robben Ford. He doesn't come across as a star; just comes across as a nice, down to earth guy. Might sound corny but you hear it through the music. I don't think pickups, strings or picks matter with him. He just has that something. I could literally listen to him for days. Please, please come to the UK soon.
Very cool! I always knew he had blues roots but this is so great. Knowing he admired and played with horn players and chose to phrase like them as well as vocalist really makes his style unique and I love this performance. I am glad I came across this video. Thanks for posting it Visioninmusica.
What a great guitarist!!! Blues and jazz love it. A humble man. My God he’s even playing one of those crappy Les Pauls with its magical tone that so many hate. If you didn’t get it, the Les Paul comment is satire.
nothing else to add about robben that everyone has said already ,just sublime, but kudos to the drummer,,great touch and timing,,so tight and in the groove,,,bass player is nt to shabby too,,,lol ..,, cheers all
Clapton makes a bad note sound right,, and he has incredible note choice & phrasing / timing ,,,, I do like robben but his note choices are more jazz inclined which sounds a bit thin in a blues context,,,
@@motherlessblues1565 I just think it's an odd comparison to make. Both completely different players of different eras who are looking to achieve different things with very different backgrounds and contexts.
This is a great guitar master, yet a really humble, sweet dude. Always gives the credit for his abilities to someone else. I wish he'd just take the credit and praise sometime.
major blessings on Robin for his offering!! AND, if i could council the foundation here, i would suggest to play just a "hair" behind the tempo~~a true blue "shuffle" is correctly played a "blond one" behind in order to hold the horses head in check~~if you'll note, this shuffle is rushed a bit and therefore looses its' groove~~in this vid, Robin is trying to hold the speed back, BUT, that's the role of the foundation~~to FEEL/create the pocket/grove~~spoken by a natural bassist and only for enlightenment for solid foundations
Wonderfull, faaaantastic! He is a so sympathic typ of famous Musician! What kind of a lesson, how to go on with my instrument and play with my fingers in a clean tone! Thank you!
I love how he always says he's just a pentatonic player and then you run across something like this. I also has the good fortune of being able to attend two of his Master Classes in Ojai a few years back. You don't come out of it playing like him, but you do get your head out of the box.
thats an instrumental that first jazz song and its a good warm up player for robin he works very hard easy and he makes it look easy but its been worked out he is a producer and he expects that the best standard like a great musicain dose with pride and praticability i call it maybe different spelling he can teach you how to play this and its like he is a sencay of music in martial arts terms
Anyone know for sure exactly what amps Mr Ford is using for this session? (Can’t really see the exact models )are they standard version amps by Fender or like a special edition Handwired version? (I’ll have to get out the magnifying Glass until then. Cheers and thanks!
the one is a hot rod deville. prob a 2 12. prob standard issue. And the other one may be a blues deville. not 100% sure on that one though. He may have requested them or that's what they had available.
I love the older stuff. Just raw blues. Check out "The Charles Ford Band" where he plays with his father and brothers. It's the best blues you can get!
In a music industry dying of algorithms, this legendary guitarist is still proving that he has something to offer.

Least we forget the drummer in the pocket and that solid groove bass player
The king of note choice and phrasing.
Jeremy Boughtin agree✌🏾️
He has a lot in common with John Scofield, in that regard.
And Larry Carlton
Indeed!
I believe that title go to BB King
I could listen to Robben Ford play 24-7 365 and never get bored.
Jesus Christ, the solo at 14:08 just blew my mind. This is true mastery. He says so much with so little. Incredible.
Dude is just so good, so tasty, so melodic all the time. I saw him and Larry Carlton some years ago and my head is still spinning from all the tastiness.
"jazz tradition is a combination of soul music and technique."
that just summed it up perfectly. blew my mind
Those subtle touches of fusion are so tasteful and not self indulgent in anyway. I love that!
Perfect as always . Robben Ford is an American icon ! And thanks to those amazing Italian musicians that accompanied him . They are world Class Musicians !
Totally agree
Top note choice ! He’s so inspiring, you can tell Miles had an immense influence on how he plays
It's not just a pleasure to listen to Robben play, it's also a pleasure to listen to him speak. He comes across as a thoughtful, intelligent guy; I wish I could know him personally.
How the F have I only just heard of this guy. I seriously need to evaluate my life right now. Absolute Inspiration.

I've been obsessing on Robben lately, so unique of a mix of timing and scales , jazz-blues and then some
Mr Ford, lei è un grande insegnante pari alla sua grandezza come musicista ! Grazie 🙏🏻

Damn - he sounds just as good on a rented Les Paul and Fender amp as he does on his own vintage guitars and Dumble amp. That's a REAL guitar player.
Instablaster...
Pretty sure that's his own personally designed LesPaul, talks about it here. ua-cam.com/video/sS0wfdj3DiQ/v-deo.html
Great to see Robben with a Les Paul, also to share his gift to others.
Is that an R8? I wonder what is regular rig is these days?
eddie fuentes better with a Tele! 😉
I liked him on his Esprit signature.
What a great guitarist!!! Blues and jazz love it. A humble man. My God he’s even playing one of those crappy Les Pauls with its magical tone that so many hate. If you didn’t get it, the Les Paul comment is satire.

In the blues world its difficult to be different.Mr. Ford gets ten out of ten there.Good voice too.
I think this is the most laid back version I have heard,Very cool Robben
Ein Genialer Gitarrist mit einem großen Spektrum an Songs, finde den Spitze auch die Soloparts sind Perfekt !
Jazzy, Bluesy, totally cool. 🎶 I have always enjoyed his playing. 👍
Bravo. È così bravo che inutile fare qualsiasi commento.
Concordo.
some say 'Clapton never hits a bad note'
maybe true, but Robben hits every right note
king of phrasing and taste 🎸
Totally agree.

Great Cannonball version and great everything..good to see him play a Les Paul..just wonderful ability and knowledge of the instrument.
A great combination of style, taste and chops. Add to that musicianship and tone.

absolutely brilliant playing by one of the true masters
This is a great guitar master, yet a really humble, sweet dude. Always gives the credit for his abilities to someone else. I wish he'd just take the credit and praise sometime.
The tone he gets with the Les Paul is surprisingly close to the tone he used to get in the old days with his Signature Fender.
Pretty cool...
AWESOME, I was there!!!
Ford is great and a great instructor
What an awesome way to share the music
Most wonderful guitar player. Nothing new... but you're a total inspiration!! Thanks VVV
Muy buenos videos del Maestro Roben Ford Alto guitarrista! !!!!!

Amazing guitar playing as usual. Very tasteful and melodic.
Fantastic!!
Tiger Walk. One of favourite albums of RF.
I love how he always says he's just a pentatonic player and then you run across something like this. I also has the good fortune of being able to attend two of his Master Classes in Ojai a few years back. You don't come out of it playing like him, but you do get your head out of the box.
John Buffaloe were you in the class that was held in Robben and Anne's living room in 2006? I happened to be in that class!
Sooooooo Goooooooood!
Wonderful to hear for the first time.

Miles Davis Montreux festival 1986 with Robben Ford MAGIC !

A living treasure.

Listening to Robben play is like being in a pie eating contest. Just plunge in there and get some goodness.
I feel like robben is the best noodler I've ever heard
Rose of Sharon🙏🏼💓
Excellent!

Amazing!
Bravissimissimo
I like his instrumental music!
Top note choice ! He’s so inspiring, you can tell Miles had an immense influence on how he plays
Magic,,!
You could transcribe every 3 seconds of this solo and you would get a new sophisticated Jazz Blues lick.
wait.... I´m back in 2 days

robben are the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That lp is so sweet . I wonder what year it is and if it’s a standard. Probably some kind of custom job.
On a blog somewhere on this, they say Robben is playing a Bassman, but it looks more like both amps are a 4/10 Fender Deville.
What a beautiful signature style, how can someone go about creating a great presonal style of playing, let alone a personal style?
Robben È la chitarra!!
Second song, guitar sounds like a horn in places. Very cool!
Anyone know for sure exactly what amps Mr Ford is using for this session?

Not sure. Definitely a hotrod deville on the right. Usually he requests a fender twin if he's traveling without his Dumple.
The best+
Fantastic as usual. Does anybody know the name of that opening jam?
Oasis
Thanks very much!
"Tigerwalk" is a great cd.
I love the older stuff. Just raw blues. Check out "The Charles Ford Band" where he plays with his father and brothers. It's the best blues you can get!
FANTASTIC JAZZ
I trudge from Robben, especially from his blues compositions.
Like this side of RF.
The future owner of that Les Paul will be a VIP either way. Robben Ford is G
