During a mushroom hunt, Pomni accidentally eats a poisonous mushroom, falling ill. Jax rushes to her aid, using his first aid skills to help. But he wonders, was this just bad luck, or is someone behind it? Regardless, he's focused on Pomni's recovery while keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.

Six troubled human souls, including the timid newcomer and series protagonist Pomni; the trouble-making rascal Jax; the cheerful optimist Ragatha; the emotionally fragile Gangle; the moody perfectionist Zooble; and the paranoid veteran Kinger, find themselves trapped in the Amazing Digital Circus. This virtual reality game is run by a quirky but oblivious artificial intelligence named Caine and his enthusiastic assistant Bubble. Sent on relentless and sometimes traumatic adventures, Pomni and the others strive to maintain their sanity and uncover a path back to the real world.
