@@michaelkruska6097 I just checked it out, its very good!! The original guitarist Mick Box and the lead vocalist (since '86) Bernie Shaw really brings it!
Uriah Heep is one of the "Big Four" of the major British superstar that made hard rock a force to be reckoned with in the early 70s. The other three were Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Not a bad company to be in, huh ?! Sadly, out of all the members who were in Uriah Heep during their heyday in 1972-79, every one has now passed away - except indefatigable guitarist Mick Box, who keeps the band going to this day. 2023 saw them release their 25th (!) studio album "Chaos & colour", which got a tremendous reception from fans and critics alike, hailed as their finest album in decades. And Bernie Shaw, the Canadian who has fronted Uriah Heep for almost 40 years now, remains one of the most original and emotional singers out there - a perfect fit for the band. Oh, on "Sympathy" - kind of surprised and a little disappointed that nobody mentioned the bass. The late great Trevor Bolder (of David Bowie fame) was AMAZING - one of my personal all-time favorite players.
Uriah Heap were a hard working band who seemed to be on an unending tour during the Seventies, I was fortunate to see them several times, both in Festivals and small clubs. They were always astounding live, but never had that pop crossover to propel their career into the next level. Thank you for recognizing this mostly forgotten band who deserve better awareness, this brings back some fabulous memories of head banging goood times. ✌️✌️
They always seemed to be on Midnight Special and my thinking is that they would answer the phone when the show was missing a band or had a drop out because they were often the last act and closed the show.
This band meant so much to me. Especially Ken Hensley's solo work which, for a 14 year old made me realize that rockers are also really sensitive deep people (Listen to "through the eyes of a child" . Thanks so much for this!
Jay & Amber: I've been a Uriah Heep fan since the 70's. A few song suggestions that made me a fan: From their Uriah Heep Live album of 1973: "Gypsy" (my favorite), "Sunrise", "Easy Livin'", "July Morning", "Circle of Hands", "Look at Yourself". And then if you want to hear them dip into a symphonic rock song, listen to "Salisbury" from their Salisbury album. It is 16 minutes of wonderful orchestral/rock mix music. Masterful! Enjoy!
Back early seventies, in Italy, there was a popular clubs, right by the beach on this very cool spot. In summer it was always packed and with excellent DJs spinning great music. In winter, not much would happen. One late fall I see a poster for Uriah Heep to be playing there, 3 pm in the afternoon next Saturday. I go and the place was basically empty. Only 15-20 of us at most, hanging around in this courtyard, outside the club. The band came, set up their gears and gave us a full blown concert! to the 20 of us! Unbelievable.
To be fair to us old peeps, a little over three years ago you didn't know any of this music. Lol. That is most certainly a testament to both of yours growth and dedication to keeping the good music alive. Hats off to you both.
Congrats on the 500klooking forward to the MILLION and to keep the good music going 4 more Uriah Heep songs Easy Living, July Morning, Come Away Melinda and of cause Gypsy.
I was one of the people who suggested Stealin' but there's still a lot of their stuff I've never heard, including this one, thanks for that. The Internet is a time machine. If you had told me years ago that we would have access to any song ever recorded I would have said "no way, Jose."
There is no band from the Seventies still going that produces such great new music as Uriah Heep. The level they are still recording new songs at and playing live is just astounding.
Glad for the uriah heep song. Thank you. Understand this is not the original singer you heard before. David Byron's voice was heep in my opinion. The classic heep line up is the earlier line up. If you want to hear high vocals listen to shadows of grief. It'll blow your mind if not your ear drums. Other great original line up songs include. July morning. Bird of prey. Sunrise. Tears in my eyes. Rain. Circle of hands. Rainbow demon. Look at yourself. Traveler in time.
I grew up listening to Uriah Heep in the 70's and still have the albums from then. I got to finally see them in concert a few years ago. They still sound great.
As others have stated, this is where vocalist John Lawton and bassist Trevor Boulder joined the group. Original singer David Byron had substance abuse issues which would eventually take his life in the 80s. Alcoholism proved to be his undoing. He was 38 when he passed in 1985. John Lawton sang on three Uriah Heep albums starting with Firefly. By this time the band's fortunes were on the decline though they would have a brief reprieve in the early 80s with the album Abominog and the song, That's The Way That It Is, which got video play on MTV.
In early '70s, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were the holy trinity for me. Thank You for this one, and may I suggest some other essential Uriah Heep classics: Easy Livin', Look at Yourself, and July Morning.
As you said Jay, you keep the great music alive, and bring it to the young ones who other wise would have missed it. You also bring a lot of great memories back to us oldies! Thankyou both, for a great job, and making us feel part of the family. All the best, and lots of love to you and the family!
Known for their unique blend of progressive rock, hard rock, heavy metal, and pastoral ballads, British rockers Uriah Heep became renowned for their distinctive sound characterized by powerful vocal harmonies, intricate guitar work, and keyboard-driven melodies. The iconic songs from their early to mid '70s peak showcased the band's evocative songwriting and skillful arranging, solidifying Heep's reputation as pioneers of the heavy metal and progressive rock movements. Try "Sunrise," "July Morning," "Traveller in Time" into "Easy Livin," all from Live 1973.
Uriah Heap was underappreciated in the day and largely forgotten today. There are always some younger people who know the good music of the past. My gf's nephew is 21, and he knows a lot of the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, although we are still schooling him on the gaps in his knowledge. Frequently heard from him: "How have I never heard of this before?"
John Lawton. I love the John Lawton era of Uriah Heep. Other songs featuring him that you might want to give a listen to are "Illusion", "The Dancer", "Free 'n Easy", "Fallen Angel", "Come Back to Me". Enjoy!
Thank you for giving attention to this band! It was one of my favorites back in the day and I have been unable to get other reactors to give them any love. Check out Traveler in Time, Easy Living and Sweet Lorraine.
Hi Amber and Jay I know you’d love 70’s uk group Slade as they’re right up your street. The rocking Cum on feel the Noize or for your love of violins, check out their first No.1 song Coz I Luv You
Way back in the day, early 70’s, there was a local roller rink that held concerts both matinee and evening shows. I saw so many great bands; T Rex, Alice Cooper, Jethro Tull to name just a few, but Uriah Heep was a special surprise to hear. Since I was only about 12-13 my parents allowed me to go to the matinee shows… if they only knew!
This was lead singer John Lawton's first album with UH after David Byron's departure. Although I loved Davis Byron this album stands on it's own and has some really good songs on it!
Drummer Lee Kerslake (RIP) also played on two iconic albums, BLizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman along with Randy Rhoads (RIP), Bob Daisley and Ozzy Osbourne.
I agree with Amber, mick box one of the most underrated guitar gods of all time, if you want to play something by them try the magicians birthday you'll love it 😀
This feels crazy you guys....! Yesterday you played Bread and I commented that was my first concert. Now today, Uriah Heep was the second concert I went to in SLC! SO COOL. These guys "Demons and Wizards" is the best! That album saw me thru some very dark days and comforted me. "Circle of Hands" or best for me is "PARADISE / THE SPELL" ❣️😁🎶 THANKS YOU GUYS
I was looking them up a few years ago and found out they cut an album as late as 2019. I have been listening to them since their first album. Magician's Birthday is one of my favs.
I love your reactions and your openness to all types of music. You have so many great bands to explore. I was a teenager when Uriah Heep came out. Still a fan today
A great song from a superb album (the title track and Hanging Tree are also top songs) but as you hardly did any songs by this band which is one of the most important one to create Prog Metal. July Morning is a MUST! Others famous ones are Easy Living, Gypsy, Return to Fantasy, Bird of Prey, Look at Yourself, Sunrise (which I think is the ultimate opening song for a concert ever).... and check out their newest album from last year - fantastic and still strong!
This is one of Uriah Heep's better songs, from the first album featuring John Lawton on vocals and Trevor Bolder on Bass.... Like the previous lineup, four of the five members have passed.....Other obscure gems from this album are "Been Away Too Long" and "Hanging Tree"......Other UH songs in this style are "Beautiful Dream" and "Year or a Day" (Return to Fantasy Album) and "Dreammare" from their first Album, but their all time magnum opus (IMO) and my favorite song of all time by any band is "Tears in My Eyes" from the "Look at Yourself Album...
You should react to some early Fleetwood Mac like Black Magic Woman (you've played the cover by Santana). You could also react to some more Sly and The Family Stone - family affair, everyday people, everybody is a star, dance to the music, stand!, hot fun in the summertime, you can make it if you try, if you want me to stay, Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
Amber & Jay, every time you guys talk about somebody hitting high notes with their vocals. I keep requesting Deep Purple's Child In Time the live version. There's a video from 1971 I believe of them doing this song live. I've seen many different reactions of people being blown away by this performance & I know it would do the same to you. Ian Gillian vocal performance on this song, especially live is imo, the best vocal performance ever. Plus as usual, the rest of the band kills it to. It's such an epic song to, probably my favorite Deep Purple song. Please check it out. You don't know what your missing out.
@davidrold9770. I agree with you and also because jay talks about the keyboard play I keep suggesting space truckin off that same live album John Lord not only got this band together but I believe one of the best in keyboards
It's hard to believe they haven't reacted to Deep Purple's "Child in Time" yet. It's one of the most iconic songs of that decade, imo. And the live version is a pleasure to watch. Even after seeing it dozens of times, I still get goosebumps. I'm always amazed by Jon Lord's finger movements.
@@helindove2237 Agree with you. It,s also hard to believe that they haven,t done Stargazer by Rainbow. Their Masterpiece. Amber will be blown away by the drum intro.
One of my fav bands, a huge fan. They are a great band and deserve so much more respect and due! I recently picked up numerous picture disc's. Check out any Song on their Magicians Birthday album. My fav UH album. My first UH fav song was Sweet Loraine. You would probably really enjoy Magicians Birthday title song and the song Rain. Warning that last song may create water in your eyes.
I saw them a couple times as opening acts to several bands line up. " Easy Living " is the only song with air play in the states. British bands like Ten Years After and Savoy Brown were more popular ( personal favorites)
Stealin' got plenty of airplay and still does in classic rock streams but that was about it for them, you could hear their early 70s epics on weekend college radio and that was it. Great band that deserved better, they were never quite as good as they were with the classic lineup.
I hate to say it, but you're 100% spot on. If you're lucky an FM station will play either, "The Wizard" or "Easy Living". Even the channels on Sirius XM don't go that much deeper.
This was the time period when the HIGHLY UNDERRECOGNIZED Vocalist John Lawton joined the group. This singer deserved so much more public recognition. Please continue with your Uriah Heep exploration. I also strongly urge you to check out John Lawton's previous band "Lucifer's Friend" starting in 1970. You may not their name, but their intro album in 1970 is a heavy metal, progressive rock fusion mix sounding like Black Sabbath joined forces with Deep Purple. Although they had been very experimental across their albums - The band has been cited as one of the pioneers of doom metal.
This is the first album after lead singer David Byron left the band and the beginning of the decline of one of my favorite bands at the time. Uriah Heep is still around, but only Mick Box remains from the original lineup. You REALLY REALLY need to listen to their song "Salisbury"
Good to see this period of Uriah Heep getting some love. Vocalist, John Lawton, is in my opinion the best singer the band ever had. Such a soulful voice.
Uriah heep is ok.. Emerson Lake and Palmer are so good and off the charts vocals. Please react to " Take a Pebble " Keith Emerson is playing the strings inside of his piano!
You still have the pleasure of looking forward to their best hit...put "Easy Livin' " next on your list and you wont be sorry...then "Rainbow Demon"...
GYPSY, LIVE 1973 !!!!!!!!! You don't know Uriah Heep until you've heard this song !!!!!!! 😊 Come on.....make me SMILE, I've been requesting this song since you first started!!!!!!😊
Uriah Heep one of the original bands that experimented with Power Metal. Personally love this genre of Metal. Highly Highly recommend doing Dragonforce Through the Fire and Flames music video.
I'm so glad you're going down this road with a group that is totally unappreciated, but one of the pioneers. BUT if you want to hear someone hit the upper limit, you've got to react to "Child in Time" by Deep Purple💜!! The BBC broadcast is the best!
Here's another suggestion for a couple of artists that I think you've reacted to before. However, this time they are singing as a duet. "James Taylor & Carole King - You've Got A Friend (BBC In Concert - 11/13/1971)" (channel: James Taylor) --James Taylor and Carole King were very close friends (only) the two never dated, despite the common assumption that they had been romantically involved. King credits Taylor for helping her build confidence to perform live in front of audiences. This specific song I've suggested was written and produced first on Carole King's album called "Tapestry" in 1971; but James Taylor also recorded the song in the same year and released it on his album called "Mud Slide Slim & The Blue Horizone"
Though not often lauded as their "best," the 1982 album Abominog has some really good tracks on it, the most famous being "That's the Way that It Is." Recommend checking it out. Thanks!
It is a good tune and all versions of this great band are worth listening to, but this album, firefly, is the first after the classic lineup broke up and the great David Byron was replaced by the able John Lawton (I loved his work on the first Lucifer's Friend album but they were at their peak with Byron) but the band sounded a bit different but still interesting 70s rock. Try for some more classic Heep when you can with the early 70s lineup and their awesome Uriah Heep Live, do Gypsy, July Morning and Sunrise, those are their tunes you really need to hear, epics that got a lot of love back in the day. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Great band, for sure. I think they had a couple different singers in the 70s (and more after that). Definitely on the progressive side and a big influence on metal too. In a somewhat similar vein, maybe try Judas Priest, Beyond the Realms of Death. What a haunting song. I know you've done quite a bit of Judas Priest, but you haven't done much old school '70s Priest, which is some of their best stuff. For instance, Dissident Aggressor for something more heavy. Their version of the Joan Baez song Diamonds and Rust is killer as well. As is their version of the Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green) song The Green Manalishi (with the two pronged crown). Or maybe you could introduce Amber to Victim of Changes. If you do Victim of Changes, or Diamonds and Rust, or Green Manalishi, I'd suggest you do the versions off their live album titled Unleashed in the East, which are IMO are better than the studio versions. You should do some old school Scorpions too. You've mostly done later ballads, but they did some killer hard rock back in the day. Lovedrive, Loving You Sunday Morning, The Zoo, Falling in Love, In Trance, The Sails of Charon... to name a few.
FEMALE FRIDAY SUGGESTION You love the 80's, you love Pop Rock, you love UK bands and you will love 'Transvision Vamp' Forget Debbie Harry, i was in love with Wendy James. Check out either 'Baby i don't care' or 'I want your love'
ROB SQUAD I ALWAYS LOVE WHEN YOU GUYS TACKLE SOME URIAH HEEP, NO OTHER REACTOR THAT I'VE EVER SEEN HAS LISTENED TO THIS BAND!!! I'VE GOT AN OBSCURE BAND FROM THE 1980S THAT I HAVE RECOMMENDED BEFORE BUT YOU GUYS HAVEN'T DONE IT YET!! THE BAND IS "SANCTUARY" AND A GREAT SONG TO START WITH WOULD BE "BATTLE ANGELS"! I GUARANTEE YOU WON'T REGRET IT AND YOU WILL LOVE THE SINGER!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for reacting to a band who never got the credit they deserve, and who continue to provide excellent music.
Love Uriah Heep! Stealin', July Morning, and Easy Livin'
Your 4th Uriah Heep song, and I don't see an "Easy Livin' " reaction posted. Its a really big hit of theirs.
What about "Jessie" to name a more recent song?
@@michaelkruska6097 I just checked it out, its very good!! The original guitarist Mick Box and the lead vocalist (since '86) Bernie Shaw really brings it!

Yeah, Easy Living should have been the first tune by them they heard but it should be soon.
I just asked Alexa to play Uriah Heep thinking the first song would be Easy Livin’. It was! You need to react to it. Their biggest hit!
And that's why I watch! Uriah Heep never gets enough attention. Thanks.
I saw them live in the 70's a couple times, they were great! I loved "Easy Livin"..
"Easy Livin" is my fave Uriah Heep
I LOVE it when I find the rare person that has a wide taste in music.!!

I agree totally i've been saying that for two years. The Live Version, please😊
@@helindove2237 Agree with you. It,s also hard to believe that they haven,t done Stargazer by Rainbow. Their Masterpiece. Amber will be blown away by the drum intro.
Let's hope they still have to react to these songs and not that the videos were removed due to the copyright policy. 🤞🤘
I've heard "Stealin'" on the radio before... more that a few times. But yes, "Easy Living" got the bulk of the spins:)
Amber's wearing a Def Leppard t-shirt. I saw Uriah Heep open for Def Leppard back in 83. Fun show.
If you like Wizard try Tales or Magician's Birthday!
This is the first album after lead singer David Byron left the band and the beginning of the decline of one of my favorite bands at the time. Uriah Heep is still around, but only Mick Box remains from the original lineup. You REALLY REALLY need to listen to their song "Salisbury"
Yes, but this Album stands on it's on and is very good!
Firefly and Innocent Victim are very strong albums.
Good to see this period of Uriah Heep getting some love. Vocalist, John Lawton, is in my opinion the best singer the band ever had. Such a soulful voice.
Bird of Prey ❤
Look at yourself ❤
Rainbow demon ❤❤❤
Just got notification this week that the Heep will be touring the US this spring!!!!
Uriah heep is ok..
Emerson Lake and Palmer are so good and off the charts vocals. Please react to " Take a Pebble " Keith Emerson is playing the strings inside of his piano!
Choices from innocent victim is well worth a listen 😊
You still have the pleasure of looking forward to their best hit...put "Easy Livin' " next on your list and you wont be sorry...then "Rainbow Demon"...
GYPSY, LIVE 1973 !!!!!!!!! You don't know Uriah Heep until you've heard this song !!!!!!! 😊
Come on.....make me SMILE, I've been requesting this song since you first started!!!!!!😊
WOW, epic tune , keep up the great reactions you two.
wiseman is brilliant
Great band. Still going strong.
A couple of other Uriah Heep bangers - "Easy Livin", "Sweet Lorraine".
John Lawton on vocals, not David Byron.
Uriah Heep one of the original bands that experimented with Power Metal.
Personally love this genre of Metal.
Highly Highly recommend doing
Dragonforce Through the Fire and Flames music video.
I'm so glad you're going down this road with a group that is totally unappreciated, but one of the pioneers. BUT if you want to hear someone hit the upper limit, you've got to react to "Child in Time" by Deep Purple💜!! The BBC broadcast is the best!
I was just about to recommend the same.
Uriah Heep is fun. Another band that's kind of in the same mold is Wishbone Ash. Try "Time Was" or "The King Will Come".
Thanks!
How about "The Magicians Birthday" by Uriah Heep ?
It is a good tune and all versions of this great band are worth listening to, but this album, firefly, is the first after the classic lineup broke up and the great David Byron was replaced by the able John Lawton (I loved his work on the first Lucifer's Friend album but they were at their peak with Byron) but the band sounded a bit different but still interesting 70s rock. Try for some more classic Heep when you can with the early 70s lineup and their awesome Uriah Heep Live, do Gypsy, July Morning and Sunrise, those are their tunes you really need to hear, epics that got a lot of love back in the day. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Hi! Good choice, great 70s sound and groove. And yes, you understand why singer John Lawton got the job after David Byron. Greetings! /Ulf
Hi Rob & Amber, as a former Keyboard player my favorite is "Easy Living"
You wanna hear something altogether different from Uriah Heep, then listen to Come Away Melinda. You will be shocked.

Used to love Uriah Heep but grew out of them fairly quickly. 😂 Stealin' and Easy Livin' were my favorites.
Great reaction - can highly recommend All For One, one of my fav Uriah Heep tracks :)
FEMALE FRIDAY SUGGESTION
You love the 80's, you love Pop Rock, you love UK bands and you will love 'Transvision Vamp'
Forget Debbie Harry, i was in love with Wendy James.
Check out either 'Baby i don't care' or 'I want your love'
I like “Easy Living’” and “The Park”!
I recommend you react to Uriah Heep - Easy Livin live 2001, very good
ROB SQUAD I ALWAYS LOVE WHEN YOU GUYS TACKLE SOME URIAH HEEP, NO OTHER REACTOR THAT I'VE EVER SEEN HAS LISTENED TO THIS BAND!!!
❤❤❤
