    Honestly with the legal ways to read digital manga now days, if your a mew collector going for these short and sweet mangas is the way to go, you can have a small but refined collection.

      I've definitely heard that some people prefer to collect really long series digitally and collect shorter manga physically.

    There are a lot of very good one volume series and sadly it seems most don't get an english translation. As you said english publishers go for long running series which I'm guessing are more profitable for them.

    • @Immortallium
      @Immortallium  3 роки тому +3

      It's probably more consistent for them money-wise. It's nice to have something consistently making you money compared to a one-off. Still, I'd like to see more one volume manga released in the future as they are very satisfying.

    This is such a great video!!! Most of these type of videos recommend the same thing over and over, all of these mangas were so fresh for me, even though I've read 100+ series, I'll definitely add these to my plan to read and plan to collect list right away. Also, keep up the great work man :Dd this video deserves a sub from me!

    I recently picked up Jiro Taniguchi's A Distant Neighborhood in a nice hardcover volume. It's pretty great, apart from being flipped. It's odd to see a flipped manga released in this day and age.

    My favorite 1-volume manga of what you haven't mentioned, so excluding "Ayako" and "A Drifting Life":
    1. "Tomoji" by Jiro Taniguchi - (German release. There is no English release yet.)
    2. "Hare Yuku Sora" by Jiro Taniguchi - (German release. There is no English release yet.)
    3. "not simple" by Natsume Ono
    4. "Solanin" by Inio Asano
    5. "K" - by Jiro Taniguchi - (German release. There is no English release yet.)
    6. "The Quest for the Missing Girl" by Jiro Taniguchi
    7. "Sky Hawk" by Jiro Taniguchi
    8. "A Distant Neighborhood" by Jiro Taniguchi
    9. "The Man Without Talent" by Yoshiharu Tsuge - (German release, which has twice as much content as the English release. I think the English release contains the better half though, but not sure.)
    10. "H.P. Lovecraft's The Hound and Other Stories" by Gou Tanabe
    About Jiro Taniguchi... well, I guess the list speaks for itself.

    I'm responding to your comment about Pink's artwork. I know you didn't say anything bad about it, but I just want to point out that the quality of artwork is dependent on how much time the artist has to draw, the amount of people drawing the manga and the skill of these people. For a series like Naruto, which has a huge readership and therefore makes money, an artist can afford to hire more artists to help him crank out 15 pages weekly with decent art. I don't think a josei artist has the financial means to hire enough helpers to polish the drawings. Of course, some mangakas are clearly more talented at drawing than others, but time and monetary constraints does affect how the drawings are going to look. So all I'm saying is that people shouldn't ignore a manga just because of the art style.

    • @Immortallium
      @Immortallium  2 роки тому

      I get what you mean. As I said, I actually do like the art but I think I was acting a little defensively since a lot of people I've met only want the standard manga art style and nothing different.

    • @ashram12
      @ashram12 2 роки тому +1

      @@Immortallium I didn't mean to criticize your comment, and I know what you mean about people wanting just "standard" manga artwork, that's partly why I wrote my initial comment: people should be more open-minded about art. I'm very picky about art as well, however, when it comes to comics and manga, the most important thing is the story. I've read many great manga which are poorly drawn, and I think it's great that the mangaka didn't let poor art get in the way of telling their story.

    • @Immortallium
      @Immortallium  2 роки тому

      It's fine. I rewatched that section to see how I phrased it and I could kinda get what you meant. Yeah, that's true. I'm trying to remember who said it but I remember a quote, this was with regards to anime but it applies just as well to manga, that said something like that a good story with bad animation can still enthrall you but a bad story with great animation has little to redeem it. Wish I could remember who said it and what the actual quote was but I think it holds true.

      @@Immortallium I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would but I can see it being problematic for some readers. It is similar to utsobura in the sexual part of the manga. It as the issue of the characters beingunderage. Although reading it I imagined them being 15/16 rather than the age I think they are supposed to be. I guess it depends what you get offended with and can take from it. Overall I would say I liked it as much as Solanin. I hope that helps

      I took a look at my MAL to remind me and I see a few that might work. I.O.N is the first manga from Arina Tanemura and is only a single volume long. From what I remember it's a little rough in quality but it's still worth reading. There's also Mistress Fortune from the same author which is a single volume as well. Kisses, Sighs and Cherry Blossom Pink is a good Yuri series from Milk Morinaga. I think it pales compared to Girl Friends from her but it's still good. The Heart of Thomas is a shonen-ai classic but it might be out of print. Hope this helps.

    • @Immortallium
      @Immortallium  2 роки тому

      @@bxquette_7550 Those black editions of Death Note look nice. I'm not the biggest Dragon Ball fan so I can only tell you what I've experienced. I've watched the Dragon Ball anime series and really enjoyed it at the beginning when it was more comedic. I lost interest as it shifted over to being an action series so I've only watched a bit of Dragon Ball Z. The manga will get you the version of the story without filler, something I've heard plagued Dragon Ball Z but I think there's a Kai series that strips the filler out so I'd say either the manga or Kai works. However, as I said before, I'm not the biggest Dragon Ball fan and I'd recommend that you check out some other UA-camrs to find out more about the differences between the manga and the anime. Hope that helps.
