    Bosiljak - Holy Basil
In Slavic traditions, beside its healing and culinary properties, Holy Basil has many ritual uses and symbolic meanings in folk poetry, as well as in lore and music. Basil was cultivated and cherished in every home, by every woman. Noticeable is its connection with feminine principle. In this song, we hear a girl or a woman complaining that her Basil is not swaying in the wind. "What is wrong with it?" she asks. Maybe there is no wind from the mountain Šara, or there is no dew from the sky. This subtly suggests something important is missing. Here we see that Basil is actually a personification of a woman's current life situation. She's longing for a change. Longing to move from a stagnant point in her life.
This is just one of possible interpretations of these lyrics. You are welcome to find your own meaning in it.
(My basil is not swaying)
Što mu je, što mu je, što se ne nija, naša nevo.
Što mu je, što mu je, što se ne nija? (What's wrong with it, why is it not swaying?)
(Isn't there wind from the mountain Šara?)
Il' nema, il' nema rose s nebesa, naša nevo,
Il' nema, il' nema rose s nebesa? (Or there's no dew from the sky?)
