    This is an excellent format for demo video. We hear decent playing, IN TUNE, and the same riff for all examples. You show the relevant information for pedals and settings WITHOUT TALKING. Just beautiful! A+++ !!!

    Thanks for this video. I have both. I started years ago with the Line6POD2.1 with extended floarboard, and used this on stage with an keyboard amp. Nice simple and light stack. But always a digital high sizzle in it. After the line 6 came the Digitech RP 50, 150, 250, 255 and the 1000. All great but all digital sounding, digital fizzy high end. Then came along the Zoom G3Xn. Wow what a difference. Very good sounds as you can hear in this excellent demo. I was fully happy with the sounds and with the ability to use it like a chain of stomboxes, just as the RP1000. Then I bought the G1Xon because I was curious and the toy did not break the bank, the G1on with expression pedal. This little plastic toy sound exactly like in this demo. I find the G3Xn more crispy and clean sounding while I hear in the G1on a dull muffled simulation. I play through the FXrec line of my solidstate Fender deLuxe. But I found a trick: I love the clean Fender sound. I use this the most. For an amp simulator is a clean sound the most difficult. So I dialed a very nice clean fender simulation on both machines. Amp, reverb, and 2x12 cab in both but after the 2x12 cab in the G1Xon I placed the exciter effect in this device. Bham., pristine Fender cleans. Much better, smoother, tubyer, nicer sound after some fiddling with the knobs. I am selling the G3Xn and keep the plastic toy. I do not play on stage anymore so I do not need the big advantage of the stompbox mode from the G3Xn. For the owners of the G1on I will advise: try this abnormal configuration. Try all the simulations with the exciter after the cab. Great sound.

    A lot of the amp models are very similar between the G3X and G1on, but overall I think the G1on sounded better. Strange since it's a fair bit older and a quarter of the price...

    They all sound the same in real live gigs. Those talkers will check the price and decide which is better. I choose G1on with a better DI box. Cabinet emulate solves all "plastic" feel in modern multi-effects.

    Dont get fooled by the aspect! (Like I did) I have both units... ZOOM is much more complex, flexible and potent... AND IT HAS A LOOPER AND A DRUM MACHINE... The VOX first 100 presets can not be changed... You have only 20 user programmable presets... Whereas the ZOOM presets will keep every tweak you do with an "auto safe" function... YOU DONT HAVE TO SAFE!!! Then I dont know why but the volume and character I get using Stomplab with phones is ridiculous, whereas the ZOOM is brilliant...

    Listening through Genelec 1030a studio monitors. The G3X sounded better on all amp models. But i noticed that you were not using the same settings, gain, eq etc. so its hard to do an exact comparison. However, the g1ON is way cheaper, and it think that it will be usable with a little bit of tweaking for people on a budget...

      Zoremmawia Pachuau Yes, I’ve been wanting to test them both using studio monitors. Correct, I just used the default settings. So I guess more of a default setting amp comparison. Hi Chris, having experienced them both first hand, which one did YOU think is better, purely in terms of audio quality. I’m finding the older model better in most cases… isn’t that odd. Also what about effects proper. Did you compare them at the time. Thanks a ton.

    • @Tone-Quest

      I have a soft spot in my music heart for the Zoom G1on. It was very affordable, small and sounded great. I think the G3Xn sounded good but I think I prefer the G1on. I think a lot of it has to do with your use case. I mostly play at home or occasionally with some friends, so the G1on being a small plastic box doesn’t bother me but the G3Xn is more rugged and built for the stage IMO. You can’t load IR’s on either but you can disable the cab sim per each patch and use an external IR pedal, which might give you an even better sound. The effects on each are good but the G1on being older means you might not have current “normal” effects, like reverb shimmer, as an example.

    • @accentontheoff
      @accentontheoff 2 роки тому +1

      @@Tone-Quest Like you said, it must come down to usage habits and all that. The older device is underrated - I have heard it (a friend has it) and it sounds great. Unfortunately I don’t have the newer one to compare and its not possible where I live. I have actually decided on a Boss GT1. But the G5n was on my consideration set for a long time, it has even more features. Anyways, have fun. Cheers and thanks for the reply!

    Please, a question to you all: yes, the little one is very good, but can be as versatile as his bigger brother in editing, linking features to an amp or P. A. and computer? Can they both be edited by a computer and load some external IR? Which is the order of the parameters in their internal chain (as gate>amp>loudspeaker>distortion> etc....)? The guitarist in my band has the G1on and connect it in the main input in front of the amp, and I don't know if the G3Xn can be linked, if it is a better option, to the back loop fx of an amp. This since I would like to purchase one of these two, and try to seriously study and support him with another guitar in the band. Thanks!

    Apparently, constructive discussion gets deleted here. Again, for the record, listening on studio monitors and high quality headphones, the G1 is no match for the G3. I just hope the folks that prefer and buy the G1 critically listened on an accurate, honest listening system.

    • @KurtBryan
      @KurtBryan 7 років тому +3

      I agree. I'm listening through a set of active studio monitors and the G1 has a much flatter, 2 dimensional sound where as the G3 has a more natural, 3 dimensional and dynamic sound. Both sound good, don't get me wrong, but the G3 just sounds more like a natural rig setup while the G1 sounds slightly processed.

      Tricky comparison. The G1on isn’t being made any more but used the run from $50-$100. The G3n new is ~$200. The G1on is plastic and is fine for home use. The G3n is a sturdy metal chassis and can be used in gigs or at home. If you can find a G1on for $50, I would say that is the best bang for your buck.

  • @YTOnceAgain
    @YTOnceAgain 6 років тому

    Wait, wait, wait... you didn't really place the reverb BEFORE the cabsim with the G3xn, did you?
    Also, I pretty much think that your virtual mic choice and hi/lo filters in the cab section of the G3xn were suboptimal for this comparison.
    In the end, making a meaningful comparison isn't easy. There's no such thing as a benchmark tone, so each user has to decide for themselves which unit can sound closest to what they expect... by getting one and tweak it themselves.

    • @Tone-Quest
      @Tone-Quest  6 років тому

      YTOnceAgain Yes, I put the Reverb before the cabsim on the G3Xn. Not saying that is the only or best way, just setting it up, the way I do in the real world.
      Agree 100% on comparing like this but it is a request that comes up a lot, to compare one pedal, amp, guitar...etc to another like component. Sound and preference is such a personal thing. None the less, I try to compare in hopes that it might help others make a decision as to an effect they like or don’t like.
      Thanks for the feedback. Cheers!

    • @YTOnceAgain
      @YTOnceAgain 6 років тому

      Thanks for the anwer. Well, yes, there are real life applications where the cab would be after reverb and such - typically when you run these effects in the loop of your guitar amp. However, as with the G1on the reverb is after the cab, I would have done this with the G3nx too. The way the comparison is set up now, there are just too many variables.
      Just as a tip: If you want to say compare the pure amp(sim)-tone, you should use the very same reverb for both, so you probably want to use a reverb in your DAW. Then, you might want to choose cabsims in each unit that makes them sound as similar as possible. To then show how much of the sound(-difference) is due to the different cabsims, you run them thru the very same cabsim, for example an IR in the DAW.
      A bit like this: ua-cam.com/video/EtZlAzVQ7EE/v-deo.html
      But yeah... unless you compare a supposedly perfect clone to the original, there simply is no best method. :-)
      Cheers.

However, as we see, it's not the same between these processors. The way to test if the models are the same between two units is to compare the models without the cab simulation altogether (maybe using IR cab simulation in post, just to tame the sound for listening purposes).

    Compare zoom g3x vs zoom g3xn

    • @rikorisu11
      @rikorisu11 6 років тому

      G3 series share the same amps and processor of the g1on. Soundwise is the same. So there's no need for a g3 comparison

      I got a Zoom G3X and sounds different than G3Xn, the N series has an improvised tone, but the G3X is better than G3Xn, G3X has better tone and a built in USB interface.

      sykaTHEoNe Im talking bout the g3, not the g3n. g3 and g1on share the same processor

    • @sicaurzica

      Yes but G3 is better than G1on because of it's features and effects, it doesn't matter the tool you are using, it matters how you use it, it matters if you know how to use it.
      At sound I think you are right, but the G3 got some updates, and it sounds much better.

      This is stated in the video, amps load with default settings...thus I'm trying to show what Zoom has configured for the default setting of each amp on each pedal.

      @@Tone-Quest OK Thanks for your answer. So do you think we can have almost the same result with any kind of multi effects pedal ? Tricking with the settings I mean, cause I'm lost between all those gears we can buy now.
      Recently I bought the Hélix Stomp . It's extremely complete, but also complicate'n expensive, at first, I was thinking of the G5n which sounds great too.
      PS: I hope my english is good enough to be understood. Thanks for you answer.

      @@manouel8746 Hey Buddy, not sure if I understand completely but if you have the Helix Stomp I would think you can configure a lot of different sounds/patches with it. It is a great unit with lots of amps and effects but true...a little expensive.
      I think each pedal is different, especially in the amps, so it is just a matter of finding the amps you like and tweaking the settings until you are happy.

      @@Tone-Quest "tweaking the settings" and not "tricking the settings" , ok thanks I got it.
      I think the same , I watched a lot of videos on multi effects . Every pedal has is own sound , like every amp .
      Finally it's a question of taste and choice.
      I appreciate the fact that you answered to me rapidly and honestly . Have a good evening Mrs Chris. See you.

    The newer Zoom's win for me simply because we have been able to reverse engineer so much of the midi/patch/FX. Check out Mungewell's Zoom-zt2 github.com/mungewell/zoom-zt2 and my ZoomPedalFun github.com/shooking/ZoomPedalFun especially on how a GCE-3 can be remote controlled.
    I like my B1On better than B1XFour because it has particles reverb. But the G3n has this, as does the GCE-3.
    I made some breakthru in generating IDs from the ZDL (old FX files) but still cannot control the B1On as completely as the newer n series.
    I was fairly sure the B1On has MIC settings in the Amp.
