- Inspired by the true stories of real women impacted by heart disease, the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement and Emmy-nominated actress Elizabeth Banks created the short film, "Just a Little Heart Attack," to educate women about the realities of heart disease and encourage them to put their health first. The short film, directed by and starring Ms. Banks, chronicles one woman's experience ignoring her symptoms and putting herself last. Go Red For Women hopes the film, "Just a Little Heart Attack," will engage and inspire women to put their health first and take care of their heart.
Elizabeth Banks is totally underrated as an actress and comedienne. Now I see she has a social conscience too; love this girl.

I had just seen this video for the first and only time last week. I'm not sure where it popped up, but because it was Elizabeth Banks, I stopped to watch. A few days later I found myself experiencing the same symptoms. I had SCAD, Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection. I had no symptoms or markers for heart disease. It just happened out of the blue. It mostly happens to younger women. I probably wouldn't have believed I was having a heart attack if I hadn't just seen the video. I had 5 stents put in to repair the tear, and my prognosis is good! This video saved my life!

You don't need to have had a heart attack to have stents put in. A friend just had some put in and had not had a heart attack; his condition was minor but could become major.
Bodies - and treatments - are not one size fits all.

I appreciated this video - exactly what happened to me - ended up with a quadruple bypass....both parents died of a heart attack before the age of 65 - this video reaches women who are trying to do and be all for their loved ones - and who forget to care for themselves. Thank you for the humor - because it makes you reevaluate - in a nonthreatening way - who is at risk...and women definitely are!! Thank you Elizabeth Banks!

@@againstthemodernworld3253 - not sure that is any longer true (or ever was). I've read several times over the last 20 years the numbers are equal or even higher for women because doctors are not looking at heart issues in women. Thankfully, that is changing.
Today is the third anniversary of my heart attack. I was 37. It looked a lot like this video. I had been icing my right shoulder since Xmas for what I thought was a pulled muscle. I share this video pretty regularly.

The "Sorry to bother you," comment is very common ). One reason women (and men) are reluctant to go to the ER when they have chest discomfort is that they're afraid doctors will be irritated for wasting their time if it's nothing. But always go. The ER docs will not be annoyed if you're not having a real heart issue.

Actually, not as weird as you might think. My daughter in law last year had a anxiety attack (scary, same symptoms) and my grandson was Googling her symptoms and in the same sort of way told her she's having a stroke. Kids around that age feel bulletproof and automatically downplay anything that's happening.

It is perfectly natural for a child to accept it's okay when a parent tells them it is when they express concern. This does not fall on the child's shoulders. What about the husband?

This is a fantastic video. Many people don't get as much from reading text about what she acted out. Many people are visual and I'm one of those. I have shared this on Facebook after seeing it shared there. I'd guess many women's and perhaps men's lives have been saved by watching this video!

have shared this video so much, I think I've lost count. My heart attack was just like this, and I thought it was "The worst case of bronchitis. EVER." Two days later I was in the O.R., filleted like a fish and getting a new aortic valve. Turns out my old, original aortic valve was so badly calcified, it was nearly sealed shut. Oops.

Aside from one GAPING problem, this is a great educational video, delivered in an easy-to-watch, entertaining way. The problem is that it shows a son (who is old enough to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack and pull the info up on a phone), who just walks out the door when he sees his mom having a possible heart attack! THIS LOOKS REALLY BAD!! It should have showed a son, who, upon recognizing the symptoms of a heart attack, promptly dials 911 to get immediate help, since "time is muscle", instead of tossing the phone to his mom and walking out the door.
i felt the same way. He is absolutely old enough to have taken the initiative to see that she gets some medical assistance, because we aren't thinking straight (or of ourselves) in moments like these. It's only been 2 weeks since i was in the ER with chest pain (not a heart attack, but possibly a cardiac event. Still being watched outpatient) and i had been feeling it starting at least 30mins before my work shift ended. i WORKED THE REST OF THE SHIFT before heading to the ER. my co-workers kept asking me if i was all right. i kept telling them it was just a little chest pain. And they didn't stop me and send me to the ER. (i work in a hospital IN A CARDIOLOGY UNIT.) They absolutely should have sent me to the ER. Anyway, my sons know what to look for and to call 911 if this happens to me again. We need to educate not only ourselves, but our loved ones as well, as to what signs to look for and how to call 911/000/999, etc.

I would never watch an educational video about heart attacks but this one popped up after i watched an elizabeth banks trailer so i just kept it on, thinking it was another trailer. I now know and will remember the signs of a heart attack. This was surprisingly effective. And now I love elizabeth banks more :) I'm 34, smoke, and am on the pill so i should seriously know this stuff.
AleshaLikesCake I know you ear this way too often, but please try to rethink that smoking thing. I absolutely understand the satisfaction a cig can provide, but it's nothing compared with surviving a heart attack and the open heart surgery that followed. Also, the next time you go to your doctor, ask them to check for a heart murmur. It's always a good idea to keep tabs on how the old engine is holding up.

Let's not forget, not all, not mine, involve chest pain or pressure, my experience was back pain. At the ER, I was asked the question about "when the chest pain started" 3 times. I kept saying I didn't have any, the blood test revealed an elevated heart enzyme. Info from AHA is what got me to go to the ER.

I see my cardiologist twice a year, and he said no matter how much do you prophylactically, no one can actually predict if and when you will have a heart attack...it’s so random...He’s had healthy patients have them, and people who are obese not. Go figure...

Regarding this video, it is a fact that people remember things better if there is humor. This video is in no way intended to ridicule those who have had or are having problems but to call attention to it. Because of the absurdity (humor if you want to call it that), people pay more attention to it - sad fact of life but truth. Most of us, by the time there were two or three things, would realize there is an issue - this shows the many symptoms of which most of us would ignore if it were only one or ever two. Even at the end when she looks around at the mess and asks 9-1-1 to make it ten minutes drives home a point - your life is more important than broken plates someone else will see on your floor.

What would you think if there was a heart attack or stroke psa where a woman is alone in her house and then she suddenly collapses, and later what would you think if a bunch of emts came in shouting and talking at once while taking care of the woman (giving her cpr and loading her onto the gurney into the ambulance), or for a soap opera or drama, what would you think if it showed a woman on a gurney entering the hospital with intense music going on and some doctors take her away?

Mi derrame cerebral afectó mi lado izquierdo y mi visión y cognición también se vieron afectadas. No hubiera sabido por dónde empezar a escribir esto, y ha tomado un tiempo, pero estoy seguro de que es una buena práctica y me ayudará. (¡Pero me disculpo por cualquier error! ... ortografía y gramática ... etc.) Dicen que la paciencia es una virtud, y eso puede ser más cierto después de un derrame cerebral. Sin embargo, veo mejoras todos los días. Mantente fuerte y habla sobre cómo te sientes. Tenía numerosas áreas de mi cerebro que se vieron afectadas, me emociono mucho y a veces lloro. No estaba deprimido, solo un poco "encerado" con mi cerebro.
Mi viaje comenzó en noviembre de 2016. Me había sentido muy cansada durante bastante tiempo, y mi esposo vino del trabajo una noche y me encontró con mucho sueño y poco atento. Llamó a una ambulancia. Poco después tuve una convulsión y luego otras cuatro más en camino. +cmherbs She's not making fun of people who have died from heart disease and trying to belittle it. I have serious heart failure and almost died of from a heart attack last month. I wouldn't have gone to the hospital or known that I was having a heart attack if I didn't watch this video. It's meant to create awareness. She's not saying that housekeeping is more important. She's showing how so many women will continue about their day, doing ordinary things without realizing they are having a heart attack. She was demonstrating the symptoms many women experience and trying to show that it was something that should be taken seriously because she could have died if her son hadn't stopped her from doing trivial things (that seemed important to her at the time) and being checked out. I'm sorry that this offended you, but that definitely was not her intention. I have loved ones who have died from heart disease as well and it wasn't a "joke." This was meant to show how so many women don't take their symptoms seriously enough. That's all she was trying to convey. And because of this video, many women have learned to take these symptoms seriously and get checked out. This video has saved lives so trying and thinking of it that way may be more helpful. I think you may have misinterpreted what she was trying to convey through humor in this video, but I understand why you may be so offended by it.
+cmherbs This is truly how MANY women are. I am a nurse at a busy heart center/coronary care unit and we have had women come in that have put off chest pain for MONTHS that finally come in when it is too late. Some have made it some have not. This video is SPOT on and in your face what happens. It is truly serving as a wake up call to those that DO NOT come in and worry about the housework and everything else that is going on that need to stop and say. "Ok, I have to listen to my body!" I have lost my father to a heart attack and my mother to cancer. This is how you reach people that don't want to listen. There are ways of reaching people through different medias and forms and sometimes you need to go this avenue. I am truly sorry for your loss, but if someone watches this and says "I need to stop what I am doing I am being completely insane cleaning my house and go to the hospital" Isn't it worth it? As a nurse it is to me.

Extremely well said! One symptom that is oftentimes overlooked is blacking out. I did this repeatedly and blamed it on a disease I have. My doctor disagreed and had me put though every kind of heart exam you can imagine. The tests showed that I have an abnormally healthy heart for a woman my age! But the black outs continued. He made arrangements for one last heart test: a tilt table test monitored by a cardiac electrophysiologist. (I think of her as a sort of neurologist of the heart.) I was on her monitor for less that 30 seconds when she knew exactly what had been causing the black outs. My heart doesn't always begin its beat from the correct spot in the heart. It will start at the correct point for 3 or 4 beats then switch to beating from the middle of my heart for 3 or 4 beats. That transfer of location causes my blood pressure to plummet and voila! I wake up on the floor with another big knot on my head. It is hard to determine the blood pressure drop because it cannot be heard with a stethoscope. I now take a simple drug twice a day and am feeling better. Now if there was a way to correct the other disease but there isn't. ) :

Your Job will kill you,,But being on Welfare doesn't cause you get stress cause you're not being told what to do by your supervisor or boss. You're your own boss when you're on welfare!
