    Totally agree with you. The great story behind the making of this watch doesn't really translate into the watch itself. I was expecting more, especially at the price point. Good review as always.

    I thought the autos are VERY expensive for what they offer, so I went for the mecha quartz (sweeping hand), which has no date, no dive bezel (so no misalignment) and less text on the dial. And, it's $322 / €275, which is a much better option.
    Good, honest review. Keep up the good work!

    If I was to go out today and spend 800 on a watch, I'm afraid this wouldn't be it. Nice looking but nothing about it jumps out to me as anything special. Certainly not in that price bracket. Great review, thanks.

    It is sharp looking, although I am now in my 70 s, I was once a professional hard hat diver not many of us left today. I wish we had the selection of divers back in the day, they have today. For the right price I will consider it even if only to dive under my desk these days. Great detail review, cover every possible question, thank you.

    You are the master of the measured review, Shane. For a $500 microbrand, this watch would be OK so long as nobody calls it a diver. As you say, if anyone needs to use this as a diver they're probably in trouble. The Orient Star field watch is a much better proposition at half the price.
    Thanks for this. Cheers 🍻!

    Bought this watch april last year already. I was enamoured by the story and the design. But primarily I only found out about them because I was looking for watches with the Seiko VH31 Sweeping Hand Quartz movement and they have one of the most attractive ones. On my Automatic Concordia my bezel was misaligned, their answer/solution:
    _'Unfortunately the triangle on the bezel will never be perfectly aligned with the 12 marker... I am afraid this is the case on all our Concordia Automatic and there is nothing we can do, as the bezel cannot be repositioned'_ ... so I'm stuck with a watch that I ended up not like looking at and don't ever wear.

    I completely agree with your review Shane. In The Netherlands we call it "no meat or fish". It means it's not good or bad and it's hard to give a verdict about it. They could have put an acrylic to it. But for the price, there are better alternatives I think ( including missalignement issues).

    Great overview. I agree with you pretty much across the board, especially with your conclusion. For the money, I absolutely would expect more. The issue that really kills this watch, though, is the misalignment--absolutely no excuse, particularly at this price. Thank you for another very well-produced, educational and entertaining vid!

    Excellent review Shane. I do dive so appreciate the advice on that. It's still a beautiful watch and I would bring it on an expedition to the back garden any time!! However for Antarctica, it would definitely be my G-Shock Mudmaster! The only other thing that keeps coming to mind, Charlie Paris reminds me of a perfume.

    I didn't even attempt to pronounce his name in my review, as I just knew I'd butcher it. I have mine on the ostrich leather strap, which I really like. As for the bezel alignment, mine is spot on. I was a little disappointed with the lume though, given the price of the watch. I think the quartz version is better value for money.

  • @kokliangchew3609
    @kokliangchew3609 2 роки тому +1

    Interesting review, although I would think that a simple cheap G-Shock watch would have probably just do as well, if not better. I often wonder if watch manufacturers are just not hyping up the mystique and retro feel of those old style military automatic watches (when old technology limited them to making do with what they had) to sell their expensive watches.
    As an ex-military personnel who used to specialised in jungle warfare, I had a cheap analogue G-shock watch which I bought in the 1990s that served me well in the jungle. Frankly, I can't imagine any other watches which could have survived being bashed about, and water immersed that it received in the jungle. It also coped well with extreme changes in temperature, from hot humid daytime temperature to cold night time temp, especially after a monsoon shower. Many a times the dial face would fogged up from such temp changes but after some time warming up in the sun, it would clear up again.
    I still have that Gshock and apart from a deep scratch on the resin, it is in good working order after almost 30 years. Ironically, because it was cheap, I had bought it as a disposable jungle watch, to be replaced if it smashed up. However, despite all I could throw at it, the G-Shock survived, and I still wear it when I go trekking.

  • @AlexanderB.

    Overall I like it. The design speaks to me, for me the the dial to bezel radio makes it look very elegant. However I agree about the price. And especially at this price they have to get the bezel alignment right.

  • @BrianHartman
    @BrianHartman 2 роки тому +2

    Considering the kinds of conditions this was designed for, I'm kind of surprised they went with a dive watch style rather than a field watch style. I would think that would be more useful if you were climbing glaciers or exploring. It seems like they took the easy/popular way out by designing a diver without really having their heart in it. And it's definitely not good enough for $800. For that kind of money, I would expect a great bracelet and a bezel that was wide enough to be easy to read. For $800, there are much better dive watches.
    Also, "If you don't care about price or value..." is a hell of a caveat. :)

    I think it looks good. I nice field watch with timing bezel, very handy. 1/2 tic off on thr bezel isn't going to mean anything to me in the field. If it keeps good time in the extreme conditions it is worth every bit of the $800. It is only $800 bucks fof goodness sakes. There are watches out there when all totaled up aren't any better for three times the price.

  • @dparis2172

    The dial gives me Blancpain Fifty Fathoms vibes and the case, BB58. Cool watch, cool story. Maybe enough to give it an edge on the Baltic Aquascaphe. I think both are challenged at their price points, for what they are.

      One thing that they mentioned. Was that they decided on an auto, as they thought the extreme temperatures would play havoc with a battery of a quartz watch.

    • @MaxVroomfondel

    Poor effort compared to many others with smaller price tag. The competition is hard nowadays. Nice that you brought up the Flagship. I've been using it about half of the days in the last 18 months (other watches just have to share the remaining 50%). Beats this watch in design, with saphire bezel that is alligned, lume, most likely in bracelet department and with a cool box crystal. Crown and caseback are the things that strike cool on this CP watch.

    Really can’t compare 300m wr to 200m. 300m is least needed for surfing or skindiving on or around reefs with breaking waves. Much sturdier construction needed. Compared to say a Tudor (with only 200m)it seems like a bargain and to a Rolex Sub or BP 50 Fath it’s like they are giving it away. However being OCD the misaligned marker would do my head in but it’s the only desk breaker for me.

    It would be nice if an english speaking person for once, could bother to pronounce watch brands the right way. I'm from Sweden (Europe) and I don't speak french, but still, I know how to pronounce "Charlie Paris". Regardless of the language, I try to make the effort.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  6 місяців тому

      Well, when it comes to different pronunciations it's tricky online. Even though you can pull up and hear people in that language say it properly, your mouth won't always say it right. It takes practice, so even when you try you may butcher it and it could come out worse. Then throw in the camera and trying to remember what you wanted to say while doing it.. and it's even harder.
      On another level, you also have people in your own language (English) who hear you butcher it and think you trying too hard.. that you are trying to make it sound fancy and therefore you must be a shill. I've actually had this happen before.
      It also gets tricky when there are multiple ways to pronounce something. Like San Martin. I grew up in Southern California not too far from Mexico. I've grown up around Spanish speakers and feel comfortable with that. So for a while every video on a San Martin, I'd pronounce it as a Spanish Speaker would. Yet every time I'd get comments complaining that it wasn't the right way... that it needed to be done more French... or Dutch.. or something. So eventually I gave up and just said it as an American would and no one ever says anything.
      So your sort of damned if you do and damned if you don't.
