CP 2816 AND BCOL 4642! CP Final Spike Tour In Whittier Junction, Winnipeg, MB!

- Between July 4th and July 6th, I was given the opportunity to catch CP 2816 on the CP Emerson Subdivision while It was returning from Mexico! Meanwhile, I also met 5 other railfans, including @maplesyrup_railfan , And @gagethedarkrailfan7417 ! I hope you enjoy the video!
HISTORY ON THE H1 HUDSONS:
The Great Depression Is very Tragic and sad when It comes to history, With Fatality’s, Riots, Because price and people couldn’t buy anything, The stock market started to go down, This was the same story to Canadian Pacific to Passengers, To increase money and people Into transport, Railways and Railroads had to do something, Passenger Service was the only way of reaching Point A and Point B back In the 20th Century, So something more faster, And Grand and cheaper to ride was the way to go, This plan would soon increase market sales and Canadian Pacific had to have a Steam Locomotive for High Speed Passenger Rail, Even In the darkest times of history, It first started In 1929 with the H1A class Hudson style steam locomotive, Which was Coal Fired, Then In 1930 with the H1B Hudson’s, All built by the MLW (Montreal Locomotive Works,) The H1 Hudson Series was EXTREMELY successful Besides the annoying jacket on the boiler, It was very good ridden and would see multiple years of service on the Canadian Pacific, 2816 was one of these classes, Built In December of 1930 By the MLW, Eventually, Even during the darkest times, Economy was booming with the now Infroduced “Streamliners,” Invented In 1934 by the EMC for the Union Pacific, There name? The M-10000, Eventually The Burlington Route would get the “Zephyr,” Built the same year by the Budd Company which would break a World Record the same year for the most miles travelled, Which Inspired the movie “The Silver Streak,” Canadian Pacific needed Streamliners to up the battle with other Railways and Railroads, It was extremely Important when the Canadian Pacific Canadian Competitier Railroad, The CN Railway (Canadian National Railway,” Would buy Its streamlined U4 class which was extremely successful. Built In 1936 by the MLW, Canadian Pacific wanted to compete still so In 1937 came In the order of more H1 Hudson’s, Difference Is that they were streamlined, They had the same build but heavily Streamlined which gave It a more faster performance rate, In 1939, Queen Elizabeth would visit Canada and would ride on one of these special Streamlined H1s, She was so Impressed by the ride and high speed, That the Monarch would give the Canadian Pacific Railway to name there Streamlined H1s, (The Royal Hudson’s,) Right after the Success, H1s would, see multiple service, Even right after The Great Depression, Which ended In 1939, However It wouldn’t beat the public demand of Dieselization In the 1950s, Diesels by this time period were considered (superior to steam,) But why If Steam had such a grand history you may be wondering? Well It’s actually pretty simple.
1. More safe for the environment (even tho that diesel locomotives even didn’t do that good of a job keeping the environment clean until the introduction of the GEVOS by GE (General Electric) In 2003.)
2. Less work In the work shop (steam locomotives needed a entire army of men to work on one train, Diesel locomotives only require 1-5 men to work on one diesel locomotive, or if possible, multiple.)
3. More easier to drive
4. More easier to compact Into 1 Train
5. No More Custom Parts
Because of this, The United States would close there Steam Program In 1952, It was deemed a success In 1957, Canada would close Its steam program In 1960, With literally every Steam Locomotive In Canada being retired between 1960-1961, Some H1 Hudson’s would be unfortunately doomed for the Scrappers Torch, However some have survived Into preservation, 2816 Is one of the Survivors with these amazing H1 Hudson Designs, 2816 would end up running excursion service In 1990, It would even visit Winnipeg, MB In 2007, However eventually with the replacement with the President In 2012 with Hunter Harrison, He would end up retiring 2816 the same year and be sold to a Museum, However that doesn’t end the story for 2816 QUITE yet, Because In 2021, CP would acquire the KCS railroad, (even tho CP Is treating It like a whole merger and rebranded there company to CPKC,) To celebrate the Aquiring of the KCS Railroad, CP would fire up 2816 for the Final Spike Tour, It did test runs around Calgary In 2023, And eventually started the “Final Spike Tour” In April of 2024.

CP #2816 came to Winnipeg to finish off the wild steam tour. CP #2816 tour went wild when it reached Mexico. Dont worry. She's ok. WB to Canada CP #2816. CPKC might have more use for you. Im sorry the Mexican part of your tour was chaotic.
Yeah this whole steam tour had a good side and a down side to it, I feel bad for the crew having to experience the death of a girl on the steam cylinder.

@@sheldonhildebrandt1126It will be going westbound to get to Calgary tomorrow on the CP Carberry Subdivision, I’d recommend Rosser, MB, Sense Trains there go 60 MPH on the CP Mainline, I’d recommend Rosser Rd, Sense It gives a good view on the CP Mainline, Also No Problem!

This is its last stop.
It will be returning to its home In Calgary, Right now we don’t know If this Is Its last run or there’s many excursions to come for this 1930s classic, Depends on what CPKC does to It to be honest.
