    I think that project on the locomotive would be fun. Lately I have been doing patch outs for guys I know and seems to be popular right now. As far as your super trees, on the ones I had I boiled them and hung them upside down with weights and I saved a lot of them that way. With warm weather on us train time will suffer. I have to tell you the Mobius .03 air brush I bought is so sweet to use. I do Air Brush 3 times a week so it will get a work out. I will also say your hobby budget is larger than mine!!! As always a fun watch

      i like when the manufacturers put out patches. MTL, ST, and East Coast have done some nice patched models. add some life and variation. I still haven't figured out how I want to patch it - because i want to preserve the CSX as much as possible. Pan Am does some quick dirty patches where they basically drew a line through the CSX logo. i'm thinking something gritty along those lines. i think the upside weighted method is what i'm going to use - after i see how many good trees i get right from the box. i do need a lot of underbrush, too. i got be honest, i just replaced my airbrush because i couldn't find new seals for it - it's a harbor freight deal and it's done everything i've needed. i keep thinking i should upgrade to some of these nicer models - maybe get a couple different needle sizes - just haven't pulled the trigger yet (pun only marginally intended).

    Great idea on the old junction tear up! I have an open area that needs something, but trees just won't fit - Bingo - solved! The decommissioned junction will be perfect. 😃

    You can soak the super tree material in glycerin and water mix then hang them from a wire with a weight hanging from it to hold it straight as it dries. I have a playlist on my channel, ways to make trees; there are a few videos showing how to use super trees, and some of them show how to straighten them. Theres a video showing how to soak and hang them, but I'm not 100% sure which video to tell you to watch. There's other videos showing different ways to straighten them as well. I've compiled over 200 tree making videos from many different modelers and about many different ways to make trees. Its kind of like a digital library for my use and I made the playlist where everyone can see the videos. It might help to scroll thru them instead of trying a youtube search. The views and everything else goes to the creators of the video, nothing to me ofcourse because they aren't mine. Take a look see if it helps.

      thanks - yes, there's a handful of tricks out there. they all work depending on the level of effort. so my approach is - how many trees did i get? how many do i need? do i need some low shrubs and broken deadfall? then i see what's left and if it's worth straightening them, cutting them up, etc. i probably have purchased about a half dozen boxes and i think the scrap that's actually made it to the trash is about a sandwich bag's worth of stuff. it's a pretty usable product - and definitely the best i've found on the market. although, they were hard to get for a while.

    I kind of just discovered you channel. I think I'm local to your area, as I easily recognize most
    the railroads you are running.

    With the super trees, I’ve seen someone take a soldering iron along the curved portion to straighten them back out. He didn’t use the tip of the soldering iron but the shaft of the metal portion and rolled it on the trees. Hope that helps

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Місяць тому +1

      there's also a chance if you soak them in the matte medium and weight them a bit they can straighten out. i might try that before the soldiering iron only because with the week i've had, i see myself somehow catching them on fire. they shouldn't, but yeah... we're not playing with hot things today LOL!

    I picked up about a dozen of those reefers several years ago. Every one of them needed washers to keep the wheel flanges off of the underside of the car body, and Exactrail wouldn't even help me out

      so, funny story. i was having some clearance issues after the video and i checked my old two - exactly what i did! i have one of those little microtrains spacers on it. kind of annoying but i have so many of them i guess it's not a big deal. completely forgot about that issue with these.

      I didn't mess with mine for several years, and recently i grabbed one from the pile and took it to my local hobby shop, they gave me washers, i cant remember the thickness, but they run flawlessly now.

    Hey, I don't know how much you read comments, but could you lower the volume of the intro?
    I've been watching you about two-three months, including some of your older content, and the intro is significantly louder than the rest of your video / when you're talking.

    • @pacificcoastminiatures
      @pacificcoastminiatures Місяць тому

      I would suggest ditching the whole intro - it’s almost 1 minute long. Not necessary, I wish he would just get into the content.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Місяць тому

      it is 41 seconds long. but it's ok, youtube has always had a scrolling function so you can skip ahead. so, no, there will be an intro.

    • @AlleghenyNorthern
      @AlleghenyNorthern  Місяць тому

      i did hear the audio difference in the intro. i do believe it was the mic - quite odd the difference wasn't apparent in the editing mode but def. hear it in this one in the final production. i'll make some adjustments and see if that levels out.
