What a session, just found your channel Mick, great video and fun to watch. Cheers for sharing the laughs and vibe! Eating well after this! Have a great 2022, fish on! Wishing you tight lines, Stay safe!
Must be great being able to lean into the sides of the big 19. I've recently sold my 6m and got an outlaw... I'm finding my balance isn't what it used to be Mick.. I don't miss the fuel bill and I do love the feeling of being able move around the whole boat. My missus misses the cab.. Can't win. Man needs two boats at least
Yeah mate it’s awesome having the high sides and the pads to lean into! Hard to beat the outlaw for versatility though!! Definitely need 2 boats if you wanna do it all but if I could only have one I’d take my tinny every day!
bro i wish i was that arsey, checked 100 likely locations the other day out near calder for a few fish 🤣 sharks are definitely a pain everywhere, were even harassing me in close.
If there’s sharks, my theory is that you’re fishing commonly fished ground! It’s worth the time scouting around to get away from them! I’ve proven this theory myself many times! You just gotta allocate time to searching around. We got out the reef in the morning and I said if we don’t find anything decent by 2pm I’ll throw one of my old marks in so we could fish that, but we didn’t even have to.
I usually look at the weather and wind to assess what’s going to make the best ride home later in the day when the wind gets up, then choose a destination in that loose direction, then when I get out to the general area I want to fish I start to look at contour lines and differences in depth when I’m choosing which direction to drive, but that’s done on the day as I drive around what may seem like aimlessly but yeah, I’m really just winging it as I go.
Good question! I set a marker to the reef I wanted to look around and drive to it on autopilot, then just followed contour lines at 25 knots scanning for structure along them. The video doesn’t show the hours we spent driving but there was a lot of searching involved..

Nice fish jimmy
His trout was a giant, the images don’t do it justice!
Is there anything particular you look for on the charts when planning what areas you’re going to suss out with the sounder?

What do you do before heading out chasing new ground? BathyMaps? Google Maps? Spots from mates? haha

What is the nearest island from Mky harbour boat ramp that I can catch trout mate?
Can catch them off the harbour wall if you’re lucky.. all the islands have them even the ones in close around seaforth
Somewhere Andy is frothing at that stripey.
