- Ahead of the 2024 #WorldSBK season kicking-off #BikeSocial were invited by #BMW to the launch of their new-look outfit, which includes 2021 World Champion, Toprak Razgatlioglu.
In a shock move, the young Turkish rider moved from Yamaha to BMW which was deemed as 'strange' by some in the paddock for 2024, but he believes otherwise. #BikeSocial's Michael Burton sat down with him to discuss the move, where he made the choice and ultimately what he believes he can do with the M 1000 RR.

Toprak’s talents and ability to adapt has no bounds. If any human being is capable of making BMW champion then Toprak can. Realistically he can do it in 2024. Good luck Toprak, you can do it.

He always had complaints about the top speed. Now he will have the power and speed to compete with the rest. Cornering will not be a problem for Toprak. If the bike will be good prepared for his style we will see some serious competition. This season will be very exciting.
Toprak will show all the grid who is the real champion this year.. he had one thing missing “straight speed” and he got it.. he will be the champion!!
Don't underestimate improved engine braking, you can see his delight in how this adds to his riding style and just needs acclimatising to.
If the extra power narrows the performance gap, engine braking will offset Batista's weight advantage in braking mass effectiveness. Already an area of Ducati advantage, this has already been eroded by WSB regulations in adding weight onto lighter riders' bikes. The Ducati engine may easily cope with an additional 7 kilos but the riders braking performance may be compromised - an area which Toprak already excels in.
I hope we no longer see Ducati simply walk away (especially) on long straight circuits.

Foggy is my wsb hero but Toprak is very quickly closing in, it's impossible not to love his personality and what he does on a bike is jaw dropping

many surprises waiting for us. toprak is the guy who will make bmw a proper podium wining bike. unbelievable talent and bmw should give everything as he does, can't wait to see them flying 🇹🇷🫡🧿
Really rooting for him to win. Yamaha really dropped the ball when they didn't learn from Kawasaki's mistake. Kawasaki disrespected him at the Suzuka 8 Hours and he left to Yamaha. After his first M1 test he asked for some rider position changes for the second test which weren't made. It seemed like Yamaha wanted to make him slow on the M1 to force him to stay in WSBK. That plan did not go well. A championship with BMW will be a legacy maker.
They also sabotaged the fastest lap attempt.
A good person is Toprak. Be an interesting watch with him on the Bmw, can he. Time will tell. We all know, hes certainly gonna try and fight.
Our pride and joy, lets go toprak. Hopefully a more competitive / even fight this year. İts against all odds but we all will not be suprised..
Toprak is a dude, I hope he can prove everyone wrong and get the title with BMW.

Toprak is without doubt the most exciting rider on the superbike grid, possibly the most talented too. If BMW can give him a competitive bike he has a great chance of upsetting Ducati and Bautista. Its a big ask in his first season with BMW to win, but I hope he can push at the front, its what has made superbike so good to watch the last few seasons. Rea might have something to add too of course!

If you look back on BMW’s history when they had an ex World Champion in Troy Corser they didn’t do as well as expected. Perhaps, with Toprak being younger with possibly greater hunger than what Troy had (and I’m a proud Australian) we will see BMW winning a championship if not this year but perhaps 2025 after a full year of racing to learn his new weapon of choice. BMW is a leading technology and racing competence. A side effect of the Berlin production is that it makes it a German-Turkish national manufacturer team. Now they have a national hero riding this. What can go wrong? That the German-italian team has the better spaghetti? We‘ll see if the Espresso trumps the Berliner Weisse that easy this year. I see no green grass growing where these go, whatever rugby bully is riding it. ;-)
If the bike can be reliable through out the season he'll win. The BMW is faster than the Ducati if he can control it.

His manager, Kenan Sofuoglu, said they didn’t want the Ducati, because it is the strongest bike now, so if he wins the title with the Ducati, everyone would say it’s thanks to the bike.

I always read this premature comments either way. No chance or world champion. Nevertheless I wonder if these people ever show up later in the season and if their predictions are proven to be nonsense to be a man and confess that motorbike racing has some details in it which they missed to understand?
