  • Join Greta Thunberg and the Natural History Museum for an online schools event to discuss biodiversity loss - one of the themes of Greta’s new book, The Climate Book.
Recorded in London earlier this year, Greta took part in a discussion with Museum biodiversity researcher Dr Adriana De Palma and a small group of young people about the importance of tackling biodiversity loss alongside climate change and how the solutions are linked.
You can watch the premiere of this event and have your questions answered live by the Museum’s Dr Adriana De Palma and Science Communicator Dr Khalil Thirlaway.
The Climate Book is published by Penguin ►www.penguin.co.uk/books/44661...

44:00 How hopeful are you about COP27 and will it deliver us what we need?
48:48 Do you think power abuse in governments has allowed them to get away with inaction towards the climate crisis?

Great to see a maturing Greta becoming more articulate. I hope you all keep up this vital work.
Having been active for more than 40 years in climate and biodiversity research, I would like to point out that our inaction on erosion is setting us up for countless future floods and destruction of vital biodiversity. Ancient Greek historical accounts noted soil erosion leaving mountains as "bare skeletons of stone". Imagine that change to biodiversity. Today it's well past that point and more "out of sight, out of mind". Our rivers and streams hide the sediment that is building up in their beds making them less able to contain heavy rains. When new bridges are constructed, as we dig down for a strong foundation, we find bottles and artifacts from bygone days. the deeper we go, the older they are.
After three decades of trying to build awareness from the "top down", I've begun to post videos highlighting the many facets of this problem and the solutions on my channel. Hopefully this will help us all enjoy a brighter future

    Good discussion.
I think the last COPs did some good: discussing the role of the food systems and the public health. And the countries this year discussed finances, loss and damages. We cannot deny some countries are doing something. We need support and celebrate even the small victories. More should be done in terms of LAW now. Environment justice.

A country either switches to energy that does NOT release the FUCKING CARBON or it doesn't.

Leonardo da Vinci said "The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions " Plato shared with us wisdom he learnt from Egypt, wisdom that was a death sentence in Greece, Rome (Christianity)..Pythagoras, Socrates and later Hypatia of Alexandria. Plato in his dialogue "The Republic " tells the parable of "The Cave " Plato starts by telling us of prisoners being held in a underground den, let us examine this den via the geometry of Bernhard Riemann and Felix Klein..Klein bottle..3rd and 4th dimensions. Plato tells us that the prisoners are bound up unable to move their heads, let us examine this bondage via the psychology of Erich Fromm..socialisation of consciousness..aware-unaware. Plato tells us that the prisoners mistake shadows for substance, let us examine this mistake via the philosophy of Thales, Hume and Kant..synthetic a priori judgement..not thing in itself. Plato tells us that one of the prisoners is released, let us examine this release via the wisdom of T Lobsang Rampa..stilling the mind and conscious astral travel..leaving the cave/body. Plato tells us that the prisoners will reject this release, let us examine this rejection via the psychology of Stockholm Syndrome..Plato quotes Homer..forgive them for they know not what they say. Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds. Mathew 23 13 31.

Down to earth discussion. If only the movers and shakers could take an hour out of their 'busy day' to listen and learn. In other words, a solid start.

Educating the youth from a very young age (pre-k) all over the world is were we need to start. Were every kid has a broom and or rake, and games for cleaning up litter are made and teaching more basic practices of keeping a pristine planet are implemented. Were getting to have a broom is a game were you want to behave to get to sweep and rake and pick up trash. And the best cleaner and one who picks up most trash gets awards. Were classes that teach caring for the world isn't just a one day affair on earth day. And things as silly as creating environmental IPS in stories, especially for aquatic environments is necessary so education in our story telling becomes as major as it once was (1980's) Aquaman and Namor shouldn't be the only major characters in American comics. There should be dozens of them and stories should incorporate the ocean and land stories from a young age so the youth grow up reading about the ocean and think about the ocean early on so it isn't a scary environment that should be ignored and disrespected, but a place that should be respected and incorporated with living and working spaces so we can incorporate it in ways that make it less scary and a place with a healthy dose of fair.

Old Farts mostly don't give a damn.
A thousand years from now humanity will know if London is 12°c or 30°c on average. By THEN it is too late, THAT is ALL Greta is saying, that and for our elected representatives to get off their do-nothing Oil & Gas paid-for arseholes.
I have a prediction, Greta is a sign of a continued change, old fart people die, their average conspiracy attitudes are replaced, updated to the new generations. There is going to be a general attitude from our kids each generation that says "The corrupt brain-dead "adults" aren't hearing nor listening. FUCK THEM, we'll do it on our own, please die soon so we can get going and get this solved. "
God Bless Greta for her guts to speak to the brainwashed "adults" and their conspiracy-do-nothing-finger-pointing, cooking and killing the planet we ALL live on.
