  • #UFC300 over exceeded the lofty expectations, and when the dust settled on the epic #UFC pay-per-view event, Alex Pereira knocked out Jamahal Hill in quick fashion to retain his light heavyweight title, before calling for a heavyweight fight at #UFC301 in less than three weeks.
    On an all-new edition of Between the Links, the panel discusses Pereira's sensational finish, if he should fight at heavyweight in Brazil next, who should be next for the title shot at 205, and where Hill goes from the loss. Additionally, they'll recap Max Holloway's history-shifting knockout of Justin Gaethje to win the #BMF title, discuss the plethora of options in front of him, what's next for Gaethje, Zhang Weili's dominant win over Yan Xiaonan, other superlatives and storylines coming from Saturday's blockbuster card, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler announced for #UFC303, Islam Makhachev vs. Dustin Poirier and Sean Strickland vs. Paulo Costa set for #UFC302, and much more.
    Host Mike Heck moderates the matchup between MMA Fighting's Jed Meshew and Eric "New York Ric" Jackman. Show goes LIVE Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 a.m. PT.

      Masvidal Askren. Not so significant as it wasn't a championship, but in terms of the KO itself it's maybe the most crazy thing I've ever seen, and it made Masvidal a PPV points fighter, an absolute star.

    • @justfasial01

      I agree. Leon's KO is a lot more significant, title fight, lose to Usman before, was losing the fight before the KO, etc etc. That would be like if Justin KOed Max instead at that moment, He was losing the fight and Max has never been KOed before.

      Jed was wrong about the risk but right about everything else. People get caught up in the moment, recency bias, happens all the time. It was a top 10 KO and a great moment for the event, for Max's career and story. It's particularly special as we haven't seen Max finish someone like that, so to do that to Justin at 155 in that sequence was incredibly cool. But we've seen better KOs with more stakes. Masvidals KO of Ben Askren is just 20 times more incredible and viral.

    I do believe with how big of a name geathje is at lightweight he is always 1 fight a way from a title shot, the fight to make is geathje vs oliviera, most of the younger generation don't deserve to fight the old guard again just yet they got their chances and all failed (gamrot is so boring and lost to beniel , fielziv lost to geathje , and the french guy who poirier killed) and Turner can't put 2 wins together , the only guy who succeeded so far against the old guard is arman.
    So it's geathje vs oliviera and if geathje wins depending on the timing he could get 1 last title shot, and for the sake of his health and legacy I think geathje should look for 3 more fight before retirement (oliviera, title shot, poirier 3) and than retire, the conor fight isn't Interesting to me any more they are old now(slower, less athletic , less durable) , 3 years ago it could have been interesting but now no.
    but to be honest geathje's last 3 fights make me thinks he isn't at his prime anymore, his chin is certainly not what it used to be 4 years ago, everytime anybody hits him clean with anything he gets wobbled or dropped.
    He is 35 now which is old for a lightweight and when you add to that all the wars he is been in, I think this was the worst geathje I ever saw, I also think he lost a little of speed and explosivity in the last 2 years.
    Go back and watch his early fights and just focus on his speed and movements you will notice slight difference.
    Not saying that at 35 he had zero chance against max, he definitely had a chance if he had used the jab more and used a more durty fighting style like he did in many of his previous fights like he did against barboza for exemple, he was shoting fake take dawns to grab barboza to get close to him and stop his movements and than punching him from close range, he also used to do a lot of grabbing the back of his opponents head with his left hand and than hitting them with his right (that's how he rocked barboza, and the only time he used it against max he dropped max in the 4th), hitting Max's body would gave help him too as well in many ways more so than his leg kicks that didn't do anything.
    Instead geathje tried to play a long range kick boxing fight with max even tho he was losing that type of fighting he kept doing it even when Trevor was telling him to put pressure on max instead and walk forward and push him against the cage he almost never did that. That's one of the only time I saw geathje not listen to Trevor instructions completely.
    Anyway max holloway was just better on that battle, better game plan, better strategy, better combination......

    • @nikobellic9004
      @nikobellic9004 13 днів тому +2

      Plus conor ducked geathje many times when he was in his prime, if now that geathje is old and clearly not at his peak anymore and conor like a weasel propos to fight him (because he finally has the courage to fight an old geathje ) than geathje should be smart and refuse and ignore him. Be a honorable warrior don't be like all the other pathetic fighters thirsty for the conor fight at the point they are weakling to get disrespected.
      if geathje is still the man of honor and character he always was he won't accept that fight, he isn't a puppet the ufc or conor can tell what to do and when to fight .
      Geathje already has money a great legacy, a fight with conor without the belt isn't going to give him any more money than any other fight or any more legacy, because conor is wash up and lost to so many people that beating him isn't special anymore...

      A lil far back but Moicano and Benoit could be a banger n gives Moicano a chance up the rankings. There actually is a route for Justin to get a title shot. Get one win n then if Dustin gets the belt he’ll have a win over him so they can fight next. Ik it’s gonna be hard for Dustin to get the belt but it’s the best chance for Gaethje

  • @nikobellic9004

    I will agree with jed on the "I dear to be great" nonsense and the excuses hill made after all the trash talk he did before the fight, he thought he was going to run over alex, he was wrong alex killed him now he should move on.
    And jed bring up how geathje reacted to his lose to debunk the fake notions that fighters always bring excuses after their fight like new york Ric try to make.
    But I will half disagree with jed on max not taking risk in the last 10 second, max definitely took a huge Risk doing what he did in the last 10 seconds against geathje, he could have been hurt or even dropped again like in the 4th.
    I said I half desagree with jed but not completely because even if max would have been hurt again in the last 10 seconds of the fight knowing how great of a chin max has he wasn't going to get ko cold, and so he would have won the decision regardless, unlike geathje who is been hurt before many times every time anything was landing clean in him and who's ability to take shots is been looking worst and worst after every fight since his last 3.
    I saw enough time max take punches from many massive punchers in the past without getting hurt taking flying knees to his chin clean like they where nothing , high kicks shin to his chin or the back of his head without showing any reactions to know that geathje koing him cold was very unlikely, maybe if max is 39 years old and still fighting it could happen but not now at 32.
    Having a great chin is a crazy advantage in fighting Look at rumble johnson for example the guy was a 170er who could take punches from heavyweights like they where nothing and had the power to ko heavyweight, and rumble was never dropped in his life until his last fight at bellator when he was 39 years old at 205 and he still recovered and won the fight. bj penn is a nother guy who's chin was so great that fighting heavyweight against lyoto was never hutmrt on the feet, even tho bj penn is actually a natural 145er.
    But anyway about the geathje vs max, After the 3rd round when max was in his corner max straight up say to his coaches " the guy has the hardest left hook I ever took" and in the next round the 4th max gets dropped by geathje for the first time in his whole career, so geathje even hurt definitely has enough power to hurt max if he landed clean, so max doing what he did was still very impressive.....

      @nikobellic9004 13 днів тому +2

      In his post fight interview max said other funny stuff like saying "geathje hits so hard even the wind was hurting me, he is like a titan, I don't know what he is made of, he is like a titan".
      i find it intresting how most of the people that got hit by geathje all immediately says he was the hardest puncher they ever fought like - khabib, oliviera, max.

    Alex Periera was only wanted to go up to HW cause he is PISSED he cant go in Rio. I think he is nervous of Magomed Ankalev. Magomed would be unbeaten in 13 fights if Paul Craig didnt steal it with 1 seconds to go. Max has more power at LW. I think he is being stubborn cause Alex Volkanovski finally lost. Alex will likely get the rematch cause he had 5 defenses. I dont believe Conor is back till the cage door slam shuts. DC and Uncle Chael had more details on Mondays podcast about this. Chandler signed at 299, according to Uncle Chael. Conor hasnt signed due to details in the fight not worked out. Conor wants 3 rounds. Chandler wants 5 rounds. There is no guaratnee its the main event for 303. Everybody was jumping for joy when Dana briskly told us the fights the way he did. @@TucoRope2Tight Poirier and Max weren't as skilled back then as they are now. They both have surpassed Conor skill set.

      @slicvm Doesn't change the fact that Conor's finish of Aldo is a top finish. (Also, it's more complicated than you put it: Conor majorly fell off after 2016, also a weakness in cardio was exposed. But at the peak of his left hand power, he was something very special, whether you like him or not).

    44:00. Guys, I watch all your episodes together. I'd like to suggest that New York Rick try to be a little less hostile. The content is A+ content, in terms of the technical analysis. But there is a lot of hostility. I feel uncomfortable watching this, because it's supposed to be a fun and exciting discussion, not a heated unwavering battle of ego. Kindly consider listening, and being less serious?

      We must not be watching the same thing because it looked like one person had their ego hurt, and it wasn't Ric's. One minute and a half after the timestamp it's pretty glaring.
