3D. PRINTING with a new printer …. COOL. … .. ok I just have one request…. Can you 3D print a copy of your helm wheel … make it a good size to make a clock out of it … Something to octopi your spare time with …. lol. …. Your followers will be SEEKING to buy a clock made on your vessel by you …. I have mentioned this idea before and I thought it might be a good TIME to mention it again …. :o)
I have had excellent results using Teak Oil on bare polished steel. Used it on axe and splitting maul heads and the wood handle. Shocked how It has remained on the steel and handles.,after use. I used a small amount on a small piece of paper towel and have not had to repeat on these after a couple of cords of wood. I also live 3 miles inland from the pacific and rust is common on any bare steel surface because of the salt air. Seeing all your projects I would even use it on the aluminum.
I can't wait until the research happens. I have been waiting for, seems like ten years, to get the ship doing what it was designed for! (I have been following this channel since it's beginning).
So, I hate to tell you stuff you prob already know, but theres Octo-Pi things you can hook into your 3D printer that watches your print as it's going with a webcam or GoPro, and as it's printing if it detects a snarl of plastic or a big birds nest, on a long overnight print it will stop the machine rather than print a big mess of shit everywhere
@@SVSeeker if you use Oi-le instead of Eule for the word Owl in german the pronounciation is the same helps with other words the contain EU in it. its not a disability its a feature :D
idk what nozzle size you use but the bigger the better for strong parts. Also some filaments go bad real quick in the full sun so some filament with uv protection like ASA could do wonders for when you need it. Will you share your CAD models on a website like Printables? Sorry if you already answered something i asked/said in the video
What type of plastic do you use in your 3d printer? If it is the most commonly used PLA (Polylactic Acid), it will degrade super fast in a damp and moist environment like your ship. The process is called hydrolysis. I recommend putting a kind of coating on it and/or double up on the stress points of whatever you are making. The advantage of PLA is that it is nontoxic and degrades in an eco-friendly kind of way. Lactic acid is the same stuff that makes yogurt taste sour.
I know you are stuck in the glue stick use and will never try something different but I’ve found that Garnier Fructis Style Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray, Extreme Hold, No Color, Fruit hairspray works far better than glue sticks.
i hope you are using at least ABS for your 3d builds or the weather and heat will cause them to fail...I been 3d printing for a yr and have found that out the hard way....PLA is great for items that do not have to survive other than just sitting on desk or shelf....and weather and heat really can affect it...
They are printing houses and other very large-scale objects. How soon will it be before someone starts 3-D printing sections of a sailing boat and bolting/gluing them together and sail around the world?
At sea is the only time we keep it for days, and food scraps go over the side so there is really very little that will smell. Then the small bags will get added to a larger heavier bag down below until we make a port.
Have you considered replacing the Exterior exaust with Cor-Ten? Iron+Sulfur%+Phospate% instead of Sulfuric or Phospor Acid as Rustconverter its allready in the ''alloy'' used in Shipbuilding heavy in the Past you can sometimes find 1930's or older Coastal Traders for Sale in Europe made out of it. it doesnt Degrade it just creates a Patina and not the flaking rust wich makes it similar to Aluminium in that regard. also used for Artstatues and Exterior Design on buildings and so on and on. awesome or rather sad to hear first trip is neting for Nano Plastic but honestly i see no point in that considering its allready found in Testicals and Semen, yeah we Humans have fked up in that regard. Building an small ROV for Ghost Net and other Garbage recovery could be a cool build series. in germany we have Nordstory wich is like a more story focused Naravtiv documentary about the people in the North Germany, one Episode was about Ghost net recovery from sunken Ship wrecks and the Danger of Nylon Strings and Rope wich is kinda invisible and deadly if you were to clean it up as Diver instead of and ROV. so that is definitly something to keep in mind for the future. oh and stay the hell away from WW1/WW2 ammunation dump sites of the East Coast. the US Goverment unlike the rest of the World had the Smooth Brain idea of droping Unconventional stuff in there as well and i am not talking about some Mustard for your Hot Dogs, so stay away from Nova Scotia other wise it might become a Local Bikini Atoll if you drop anchor on an old Nuke Warhead by accident. 🐒 is there a libary for the 3D Designs for the Life Rings and such yet? it might be viable to use it to make latex modles and in turn for Wax Molds for Casting it in Bronce, actually that would be so usefull for portholes and lights considering the rediculus mark up the hoarders on the fleamarkets charge for these old things and incomplete sets.
I seriously love this project, it’s kept me going so much through 7yrs of cancer treatment. Thanks Doug 👍🏻
Make sure to use a hardened nozzle if youre printing CF, GF, or glow in the dark!!!
Awesome! So glad to see the Plus4 on your ship! It's an absolute beast! I printed a lot of high performance filaments on it.
Hose clamps in opposite directions. Smart boy.
Congrats on your first trip.
So great to hear you got a gig!!
Good luck sciencing that ocean.

Thanks, Doug, you set off my Alexa.🤣🤣I'm shocked you didn't make the pump bracket on the printer!

Great video!
Love the lakes.
👍🏼😎🙏🏼
Doug! Screwdriver through the hole!
Super cool I finally got to see a fishing pole on your boat I would love to see you do some fishing
Maybe one day

For the Alexa 220v thing, maybe get a plug adapter from US to UK or Germany plug and you can use the smart outlets with that plug.
Cerakote air cure is used on headers and other high heat applications and is pretty resistant to salt spray, etc. Might be worth a try on the exhaust.
I SOOOO wish I had room for a QIDI on our little sailing cat :-(. Nice work Doug!
Thanks Doug happy printing. LOL
Time to print up a 3 note boat whistle.
Great stuff Skipper
I use aquanet hair spray for my 3d printers and works with ABS too.
Thanks for the update, and have a great weekend
Darknes can not hide spelling mistakes 😂
Thanks Doug, enjoyed the video as always.
The problem is you non-dyslexic folks just need to learn that there are many ways to spell most words.

If it can be understood, it's good english. it might not get you hired as an editor, but it'll work for everything else!
Been waiting for you to get the eyeball torpedo out of the hold.
Cool, you get to do science stuff. Rust is always a thing. Make sure you do not have a stray current. They compound the rust rate.
Get that spray paint for wood stoves......

Could you sew in a little drain hole in the sail folds? But of course a cloth cover would be best for uv protection etc...
Excellent video, Capitan Doug 👍🏻👍🏻
Love Leon Redbone!
I don’t use glue sticks. One printer has pei sheet which sticks super well. The other printer is just borosilicate glass

I use Elmer's Disappearing Purple School Glue. Washes off the base plate very easily.
Thats awesome safe sailing buddy seeker looks great

❤can u print cover clips for your hose clamps?
Will you keep the old printer so you can run con-current jobs? Or is that not common enough to justify the space usage?
Keep it up Doug!
I don't know why.... But this video I really enjoyed. Not that I don't enjoy them all. This one was "real easy"
👍👍
I've found aqua net hairspray to be easier to use than glue sticks on my print bed.
Hello Doug. Are you using Blender's CAD Sketcher addon?
Alexa can even switch an 3 phases feed. Just let it switch an suitable relay
Pumped for the journey. Would you ever journey to Antarctica for research asking for a freind.
What do you do with trash on board? Obviously take it to shore but how do you store it, Keep it from stinking?
At sea is the only time we keep it for days, and food scraps go over the side so there is really very little that will smell. Then the small bags will get added to a larger heavier bag down below until we make a port.
Could I build a 12'x20 shop with that printer?
The pumps use to come in all prices ???
Doug is becoming very "domesticated".

A Giant 3 D printer an print nearly Anything ???
You know why you are if you 3D print a particular item for your self it will call big brother and let them know that you printed one.
You seem to get a lot of bumps on your head. Ya ever thought of wearing a helmet?
🔥 =BAD, on a boat. If you want 🕯🕯🕯, try battery looking flames on candles. And say 👋👋 🕯 🕯🕯
All the negative Nancys who said it would never do research work are about to eat crow for Thanksgiving.
Right on dude! Go Seeker!
You can also you solid works
👍👍
