China has been remodelling its public transport network as part of its green push. In 2017, the southeastern city of Shenzhen became the world’s first to have its buses go fully electric. Since then, cities like Beijing and Shanghai have followed suit. China is the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, and experts say pollution was a major factor in its decision to make the switch.

I recently travelled on the Hong Kong - Macau - Zhuhai bridge on a BYD electric bus! What a great experience… Quiet, clean and smooth!
Yes! Shenzhen air is so much cleaner than HK, the lack of exhaust fumes from bus & taxi is really something. HK really ought to buy Chinese electric taxi & bus.
their electric vehicles are actually serving a purpose
Ok
To everyone saying China is the biggest CO2 emitter.
China is also the world's factory. They produce and manufacture a large % of the world's goods while having the most population.
Yet in terms on CO2 emission per capita, they are not even in top 20 of CO2 emitters.
In fact, U.S emits twice as much as China while having very little manufacturing output
China having 4x the population of U.S + being the World's factory While emitting half the CO2
Very insightful. I forgot I'm using a phone that was made in China. The iPhone 😅
@@condorX2soon, all will be from India.
Don't forget to factor in total historical emission. The combined CO2 emission by the collective west (including Japan and South Korea) far outstrip China and way way way ahead of the rest of the world. We wouldn't be in this mess in the first place if the west stopped emitting so much carbon way back then. They had the chance to stop emitting so much. They had the capital, and the technology to make the switch. It would have been painful but we wouldn't have used up all the carbon debts if it were not for the west's, especially the US, irresponsible usage of fossil fuels.
If the west really was all about equality, freedom, democracy, justice and fairness for all people in the world, they would have force themselves to transition over to renewable and nuclear before the 2000s, and we would have far more carbon headroom for the developing countries to use cheap energy to develop. They would have also help the developing countries leapfrog over to renewable and nuclear after the initial development was done. But they didn't do that. They CHOSE to keep using cheap energy to sustain their decadent standard of living and now they want the rest of us to cut back and stop developing because the world is on fire.
They can go F themselves.
@@aldenteh9412no actually never iPhone will make some of them in India but not every single one cause they know they can't depend on single country look china
sst..don't tell anyone, that is a secret
Per capita, it's not the largest emitter. Do you expect a nation of 1.4 billion to have the carbon emission of Vatican??
not to mention we outsource our manufacturing to China, which means much of their pollution are not theirs to begin with
meanwhile the United States, a fourth of China's population, consumes 30% more oil than China, let that sink in.
It's also so easy for a developed nation to point fingers at developing countries, when you already went through the industrial phase and have tens thousands of factories in developing nations...
Indeed, US and Europe should also try making their buses all electric, which would have a bigger impact on the environment just from the per capita data
And where do you think these batteries come from. I am sure the childeren in Africa were happy to help them mine it for China
You got that all wrong BYD buses are powered by LFP type of battery, internal chemical ingredients did not need mines from Africa.
because colonial medida doesn't consider Chinese or Indians are humans.
@@thegamingwolf5612 The LFP batteries don't have Cobalt from Congo.
After China cities, Bogota Colombia has the largest fleet of electric buses, all with BYD brand
Santiago, Chile, has more than 2.400 electric buses.
In Groningen Nederland we have 200 BYD Electric Busses. For Years now. Never in the Media. But it is a Big Succes. Charged with Solar Park Power Full Operational. Silent Clean Transport. Super. Thank You BYD.❤
Dat sounds like niet usage van any chemical energy at all und just utilizing ederin fur gratis, omdat jij charge it helemaal mit de solar power. Not sure you can understand what I typed or not as I studied in TU Delft many years ago and learnt a few Dutch words so I mix English and Dutch there lol
@@ProCelestialEmpire It is not the language that counts, its the understanding that Counts. And I understand you perfectly. Thank You for your remark. 👍🙂☀️
Thats why Netherlands air is so clean, many bikers and now electric bus
China is continuasly putting its effort to mitigate pollution. One day we will see it. Greener China.
#NEPAL🎉
It's already happening. China's air quality has gotten much better from before, and they keep adding more solar & wind power.
until then, they paint their fields green and use plastic bushes xD
In India, you can smell the exhaust of diesal truck and public transport buses while walking on the footpath. Indian cities are the most polluted in the world and on top of that Indian government is declining to accept Chinese EV companies to invest and open shop in India. 😢
We are already manufacturing our own electric bus. Please do some research.
@@tda7294 *: YES, incredible! superpower! india! "buses" ARE AS USUAL COVERED IN HUMAN FECES FROM THE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF SHIIIITTTEEEING IN THE STRAAEEATS incredible! superpower! indians! DUE TO THE COMPLETE AND ABSOLUTE FAILURE OF THE LORD Modiji VAUNTED "swahh bharat"!!!!*
Many of these manufacturers are winning tenders in Norway, too, and the busses work as expected. It's a great application: On heavy vehicles, the added weight of batteries doesn't matter much. In cities, reduced local pollution is extra appreciated. And the very real noise reduction matters greatly in residential areas. Once most of the charging capacity is providing by green power, this is real step into a better future.
I am living in North America so proud to watch the advancement of the public transportation in China.
Gavin Newsom was there to buy these gadgets. Kudos to California for being woke, most yanks still believe that theyll get kidnapped by Chinese government the moment they land there 😂
What does that have to do with being woke?
It's not very clear what Newsom wanted from the BYD plant as BYD already has a very large electric bus plant in Los Angeles county in the desert.
China is indeed the biggest emitters of CO2 because it has a huge population and is a big country. But measured on a per capita basis, middle eastern countries are ranked at the top. The big 3 emitters which happened to be huge countries (China, USA, India) are not even near the top on a per capita basis. But if you want to measure total output since the time of industrialisation, then I daresay USA is still holding Number 1. EU as a region may come close since industrialisation started in Europe and London is like how Delhi looks today, or even worse.
Yeah and if you add up all the emissions for the past 3 hundred years, the US has almost twice the amount of China's, with 1/4 the population and China making 30% of all goods for the past 30 years. China also was processing a large amount of the "recycling waste" of Western nations.
Very informative. I forgot about that. I remember someone mentioned the US went through the same phrase with it industrialization?
@@condorX2 all developed countries have. You can do a search on “Great Smog of London” to see how bad pollution was in the UK just 70 years ago. It was only in the 70s when western nations enacted environmental protection policies which outsourced its pollution do developing nations and moved more towards high tech and finance industries that their pollution was reduced to current levels.
And per capita, the average america has more than 2x the carbon emission
Well, american are the biggest emitter. Just count their population per CO2 + military bases emits. 😂😂
The chinese SKS buses in GoKL are actually quite comfortable, sadly our depot for GoKL Turquoise Line can't fit enough buses for now, not really the best example but they're much better than the old KingLong buses in T-223 Line.
With CATL & BYD, China has a chokehold on the EV battery market with more than 75% global share. In the next few years, EVs will become so mainstream that you won't believe the exponential adoption. Buses, cars, and motorcycles everywhere will be EV-based. Go, China, go!

In my country we are ditching diesel too. We turn to bullock carts for less carbon emission.
Norway also evolving in EV Buses
Wait...What? E- bus has over half the emission of a diesel bus? How? What is the e-bus emitting? Electrons?
The statement that the E-bus emits more than half as much as a diesel bus refers to carbon dioxide emission if the E-bus is charged only with electricity generated from coal.
@@cedriclynch but you can't say definitively how much of the electricity is generated by coal, it varies based on the country, and has nothing to do with the vehicle itself. Even then , that's carbon footprint, not "emissions".
@@kevinlin4895 I think you can say that the electric bus has lower carbon dioxide emission than the diesel bus; how much lower depends on the source of the electricity. If someone finds a way to make diesel fuel at low cost from
substances whose supply is sustainable (and not competing with food crops), the diesel bus might become better than the electric bus. The total carbon footprint and running cost of an electric vehicle depend heavily on how long the battery lasts. With a lead-acid battery most electric vehicles (other than ones operating only at very low speeds) are not economic because of the depreciation of the battery, but the lithium-ion battery is a big improvement on this point and is continuing to be improved.
@@cedriclynch Diesel is on it's way out. You clearly are clueless if you think they are coming back.
Currently my country barbados has 60 of these busses in its fleet( on paparr any way because some of then got in accidents) which is the most in the Caribbean region
Hopefully Indonesia will also adopt this
Great work China to go green👍
Simply Chinese wan’t to less on rely on diesel/fuel based vehicles, to reduce pollution emission in their cities which is makes sense, cleaner alternatives energy switch, and less rely on Middle East and Latin American countries... and especially US and some of it’s firmly key allies oil companies which is geopolitically challenged/opposed to each others, and wan’t the rest of world to do it so.
Other than logistics, they could also try using more batteries in the e-busses if that is possible to increase the length of time they can stay on the route.
more batteries, more pollution
@@Hkchinese888 True I guess, but I am assuming it should still be lower than that of diesel.
Excess battery is a waste of money if it never gets used. The ideal bus has only a little extra capacity for its daily route, because it can be fully charged every night to start fresh each day.
No thanks.
@@Hkchinese888 more jealous indians
Why not put solar panel on top of the buses?
Solar panels covering the top of a bus would have an output of about 4 kilowatts. Maybe 30 kilowatt-hours each day. This would be a useful contribution but would not cover the whole energy requirement of the bus; these are several times higher.
Meby filters on car exhaust sombody should make them so you can put in on the end of the exhaust gas pipe.
Catalytic converters and DEF exist, but they're not perfect, and even working perfectly, they're no match for renewable solar or wind energy.
2:33 And what kind of emissions do electric buses have, lol?
Fire accidents soon beware .....

Common sight is that generation for EVs kicks up electricity consumption. I hope that wouldnt happen
It's false. EVs have ZERO tailpipe emissions, whereas gas & diesel always have CO2 emissions. EVs are as green as the generation, which is roughly half renewable solar, wind & hydro in China today, and growing faster every year. Even if electricity is entirely thermal coal / oil / gas, it's still cleaner than gas & diesel, because the big plants are more efficient and typically incorporate scrubbers to minimize CO2 emissions at the smokestack.
@@ZweiZwolfnuclear energy capacity is also growing too, and if the thorium energy plant works, could be a major game changer.
@@albback8176 The Chinese test Thorium Molten Salt Reactor has been running in the Gobi desert for a while now, and I haven't heard of any issues. I assume they're getting the kinks worked out before scaling up to utility generation. I predict massive deployment 2030s & 40s to replace coal for base load generation.
Cool.

e-bus emissions were just half that of diesel bus ? so e-bus has emission ?
Yes, the bus directly has 0 emissions, but the form to get the electricity to charge the bus is not clean
@@AndreaPirlo888 what if electricity is from Nuclear energy
This is BS.. you can say e-bus carbon footprint is half of diesel, you can't say its EMISSIONS is half of diesel, that's a blatant obfuscation.
EVs have ZERO tailpipe emission, but they do have a carbon footprint that's partly from indirect smokestack emission if any of the electricity is generated by thermal (coal, oil, gas) energy. In China, they're adding a lot of renewable power, so their EV emission profile gets better every year, whereas a diesel bus can never improve no matter how much renewable power is generated.
