Well, Daniel, it appears you fell in love with the Rockburn as I did about 45 years ago. Except (apart from one instance when the weather was so bad we had to turn back) we always went in over Sugarloaf and out down the north branch of the Routeburn. I've never seen the north col without snow in it! We always took crampons and ice axes just in case. Park Pass Glacier has retreated a LOT since I was last up there. Theatre Flat is, as far as I'm concerned, the most beautiful river flat in the country. Our typical trip would be Day 1 to Theatre Flat, Day 2 to Park Pass, where we always camped under that huge rock bivouac after reccying the glacier, Day 3 to somewhere down the North Branch of the Routeburn and out the final day. The routine would vary according to conditions. Somewhere I have a stack of photos (real ones) of the route taken over several trips. Anyway, the two videos were magnificent, but far too short! 😄
Yes I definitely fell in love and will be back again at some point. Before the trip I'd read a lot about snow in North Col, but seems it's mostly snow free in summer and autumn these days (a sign of the times). I bet those photos capture a lot of great memories!
I love how cinematic your videos are! Colors are always really balanced and very smooth movement. I was in the region doing 5 passes the same time this year, I also made a video but it's quite a different style, way less cinematic - ua-cam.com/video/XE_M1-LSFWw/v-deo.html
