That was/is nice. A quiet day watching someone catching and releasing fish, no ego, look how good looking I think I am or listening to how brilliant he thinks he is, just hanging out and listening to the sea on the sand. I have fished the ocean twice, in Maine at Two Lights so have no clue what or how it's done. Now fly fishing....! Thumbs up.

Nice! Fly fishing is great and I hear Maine has great fishing. Thanks for the kind words.

Conditions looked and sounded great! Any stripers around? Did you dig the sand crabs there?

Yeah it was a great day. I caught about 40 mini size soft shell sand crabs right there where I fished. Took about an hour.

@@JoeG480 I usually only fish for 1.5- 2 hours so I hate to use time getting sand crabs but they really work. I'm 80 years old but may have to change may habits!!! HA HA. Last week I fished at Half Moon Bay near a bait and wait fellow who had dug sand crabs and sandworms near the lighthouse (not sure which one) but he was doing best on sandworms for perch but used the crabs for stripers.

@@theoldsurffisher1943It is amazing that you are still fishing at 80! I know people much younger who can’t even get off the couch. I have heard that Pacifica has been really good for stripers recently but it is too far of a drive for me. I would hate to drive almost 2 hours just to be met with bad conditions. The perch were on fire for me until the red tide came into the Monterey bay and messed everything up. I have no idea when it will leave but whenever it is on the beach the bite is horrible.

@@Ducky2o Thanks for the compliment! There's nothing like being on the beach/surf listening to and watching the waves, birds and seals. I frequently fish 3-4 beaches in Santa Cruz area. I hate to drive near SF so I don't go to Pacifica. I'm headed to Dunes Beach near Bodega Bay tomorrow.

Nice fish! After that red tide that came in 2 weeks ago the bite was pretty slow for me. Hopefully it is all cleared up and I can get some slabs this afternoon! 👍🐟 Edit- Went to the beach and it was full on red tide again. Anchovies were in 1 foot deep water but nothing was chasing them at all. At least there was jacksmelt to chew up my lures😅

Yeah that red tide was horrible. The conditions seem a bit better now I think

Is that a fish finder rig? And how do you know the difference between waves playing with your line compared to a bite?

@@pasolesoup7430 When a fish bites, it feels different from the waves, it’s more of a twitchy, tapping feeling. I use a Carolina rig.

Yes it was great. Used Carolina rig, 2 ft leader, size 4 circle hooks finesse. 9.5 ft rods and size SW5000 reel with mini size soft shell sand crabs
