- Day 9: The day starts in Montenegro after wild camping in Grahovac at an unused scout camping site.
The ride down into Albania was hot, full of traffic and full of surprises. I ended up in the mountains over Tirana visiting some friends who run our favorite restaurant in Bristol, Ciao Amici. After a swim, some good food and and sunbathe, I headed off towards Greece and a little village called Mesapotamia. It was a lovely ride even though I had to end the ride in the dark, unable to find the camp site. The wild campo was one of the more comical ones (a story for the next episode).
The bike is riding like a dream, getting a bit hot through the large cities at 35 degrees and slow speeds, other than that it's perfect!
I'm really enjoying these exploits. Nice to see an older bike being used.
Glad to hear it, I'm enjoying putting these videos together, re-living the trip. The Thunderbird is a tank of a bike.
Good to see that the T'Bird was performing well despite the heat. Certainly looks to be some beautiful riding to be had in the Balkans (Tirana excepted 😄). Look forward to the next episode.
She got a bit hot, still didn't miss a beat though. The Balkans have some incredible roads. Will be back for sure. Thanks!
Definitely going to give that restaurant a visit, looking forward to the next episode 😎😎
You won't be disappointed. If you like a bit of pizza go for the Carne Mista.
You are making some very inspiring videos. And that Triumph is a joy to listen to. 🤙🏻
Thanks Tom, that's kind of you mate. There wasn't loads of planning that went into the filming process, in fact I wasn't sure I'd even put anything out there on the Tube! It's been fun putting the videos together though. Looking forward to the trip back, that has a bit more thought going into the filming bit - hopefully even better.
The Thunderbird does sound lovely too, can't get enough of it.
The best adventures are always had on a bike. I notice some damn good riding roads down through the Balkan countries..., see ya in Greece. Ride safe.
They really are some of the best roads I'd ridden on. Looking forward to riding them again.
been to ALBANIA on my 600E XT never to be forgotten including dead bodies at the side of the road and two feet of snow up in the mountains
What?? When was that? Yea, that's pretty unforgettable.
This was back in 2009 and i was heading for GREECE then Turkey had a few falls badly injured my leg so decided to get out of Albania spent three days there people were amazing i also suffered two punctures @@thebristolthunderbird
Fuel is expensive in Albania compared to local countries, traffic in towns is usually shit, ok on the open roads. I rode to Berat last year, 41c when i got there, so wet with sweat i had trouble getting my bike clothes off.
That sounds nasty. I was hot enough but 41! That's on another level of heat. I used a mesh jacket for the trip which was a life saver in the heat. Just had to keep moving to feel the benefit. I haven't actually checked the fuel prices after so see if I was skinned or not. I paid about £20 for a tank which was the most expensive of the trip. I still averaged about £13 per tank for the whole trip so it wasn't wildly expensive. Just had that feeling I was being had!
And we end the episode on a cliffhanger. 🎉
@ haha. Wasn't actually intentional. GoPro went dead and I was too knackered to start fiddling with other camera gear...
It was really interesting, and never seen footage of Albania on a bike before 😂 have you been useinng google maps or a sat nav ?
Haha, glad you enjoy it mate! I used Google maps on my phone for the whole trip.
@@thebristolthunderbird thanks mate 👍
