Apparently Hiroyuki Sanada has signed a contract to continue playing the character of Yoshii Toranaga, so it looks like we may get a season two indeed.
The way Mariko treats Blackthorn. Sometimes it's like a wife telling her husband, "For once will you give it a miss." When Blackthorn goes on and on about his ship and men. Then other times like at the Tea House she treats him like a little boy. Telling him, "You will not embarrass us (Mainly me), tonight." We also got to see why Kiku is a first class lady of the Willow World. She could read the room. After the night Mariko's cold thank you to Kiku say's it all really. Cheers, Chris Perry.
19:14 AHAHAHAHAHAHHAAA!!! I had sort of the same reaction watching that the first time. It's the sexiest 2 second hand-hold in TV history. Amazingly well done scene. You can really feel the ache they have for each other.
They announced a season 2 the other day. Which is weird because there’s no more books to base off of after this one.
I just hope they're able to keep it from becoming Game of Thrones. Hopefully, the show runners and writers will have knowledge and take inspiration from the time period this show is supposed to depict.
Well, you know, the book is based of the historical events. They just changed the name of the people so the author could add narrative flair and add things to the story. A lot of the things that happened in the show, and books, is what actually happened. Except for Mariko. It is doubtful that John Blackthorn (William Adams in history) would have met Mariko. The Japanese noble women were often secluded from the outside world and rarely would have met many men.
Regardless, they have plenty of material to work with using the events of 1600-1610 and just add some narrative flair to it.

Mariko’s husband is a lord but her family was at the time “higher ranked” I guess is the best way to say it. So her dad married her downward.

Ieyasu (Toranaga) and Hideyoshi (Taiko) hunted down Mitsuhide (Jinsai) after the assassination. The book/show does switch some things around.
Intrigue on top of intrigue. Everybody has some hidden agenda that eventually gets revealed. Not always what you expect. Makes this series great. For better or worse, I think there’ll be a second season. I can’t imagine anything better than this one. There’s plenty of history that happened in this era to get a story out , perhaps with new characters.
