How to Evade Phone Surveillance in Emergencies

- You need to be prepared to handle cases where you might be surveilled via your phone in unexpected situations. Maybe there's a demonstration or riot near you. Maybe you feel like someone is hacking you. Maybe you're having a meeting that you want to ensure is private. Maybe you're entering a high security building. If you understand how the phone is used to track you, you can have the correct strategies. In the long term you should have a de-Googled phone. But absent that for short term use, this video will assume you do not.

Been waiting for videos like this. A lot of the stuff goes above my level of understanding, but this is what I really wanted to know. Thank you.
I have great respect for this gentleman and appreciate his efforts to inform us in the best way possible. Thank you.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Same goes for teaching people how to stay safe and protect their personal information.
Great work Rob, it's real pleasure hearing an expert comment on these issues.
Thank you Rob for these videos. You are a legend!
Here here!
Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me! 😂
You are low hanging fruit

I respect you Rob, and your contribution! Thanks a ton!

Agreed. Amazon has been outed for giving your camera data to "law enforcement" without a warrant. Auto companies are even less particular as to whom they transfer all of your gathered data (and it is a whole lot more than stuff used my vehicle maintainers).
Easiest way to avoid surveillance is to not carry devices, or so I thought. I'm not permitted to carry a mobile with me during work for safety reasons, but some of my coworkers are. I've noticed that somehow "they" (big tech? and/or others?) can determine that I am present and my voice patterns from my associates devices to still send target ads for things I mention and mark my location even when I don't have my personal devices. It's unsettling, wonder if anyone else has this problem.
I will. You're awesome! Thanks for being here and bringing the low down to the showdown. Happy to pass it on. Well done. Good job.
iWatch probably should not be carried to those places either.
Tape over camera is the only thing i do😂
Both cameras? The front camera is always on with iphones.
A piece of tape over the microphone you speak into actually works pretty good as well.
It's funny, my phone hasn't stayed off now for years. I turn it off & nope, it literally turns itself back on. I just want to thank you for all of this information! It's much appreciated! Your videos are amazing! Watching them always makes je feel better. I'm gonna have to rewatch this one, it keeps turning off constantly, lol. Thanks so much!
Thankyou, your support for the privacy is wizard level.

I do have a faraday bag, if needed I’ll use it….if I go to a demonstration, do you think that will be sufficient?
@@oldhaglady62 just wrap your phone in aluminium foil and then ground the foil (connect the foil to the earth pin of the power socket)
@@oldhaglady62No. It will still collect other data and hold it until taken back out of the bag.
@@pvim why ground it?
@@pathologicusmaximus I liken a cell phone in this instance to a screaming thing. Wrapping your cell phone in foil is like putting the thing in a carpeted, plywood cubicle. Grounding the foil is like throwing the cubicle into the middle of the ocean with several anchors attached. ( Assume the thing could survive this without harm ... that is not the point to this illustration ).
This is such a good resource. Bookmarking it. Thank you so much.

As long as your de-googled phones are allowed to update their ROMS from remote, they can be hacked by the three letter agencies.
Do you have ROMS to update over those Google Pixel phones?
Also Snowden suggested that all phones and computers have their camera's cut and microphon and when he wants to make a call, has to plug in a headphone and microphone. I noticed the Google Pixel did not have those cut. :(
Only a standard android is vulnerable to that attack, because google has the remote features…. “Degoogled” just means anything that is running AOSP… AOSP is basically just mobile linux, which is what google-android is based on.
Linux does not have those issues. The added google features are the root cause for concern
It doesn't help much. Speakers can also be perfect microphones, but they are optimized for sound reproduction.
A few years ago I read a scientific paper about how sounds can be reconstructed from vibrations perceived by position sensors.
UA-cam recommends all of my history towards other members of the household even if I had never connected my phone to the tv and have always used a vpn. Is there anything I can do?
UA-cam is Google. And videos won't play if they detect an ad blocker.
@ what I said was everybody in the household gets the same video recommendations on their homepage from all the history and channel subscriptions that I have
Mr Braxman, some months ago i asked what’s a good computer for running Linux for day to day tasks (nothing fancy). And you said to wait til the end of the year. What would you recommend now? Thank you.
If you want to run Linux without problems use a new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (min gen9)
"wait til the end of the year"
With the end of Windows 10 support there will be a lot of second hand computers entering the market
I have installed Mint on a laptop with 7th gen i7 and on htpc with ryzen g2400g. Haven't had issues. Also, daily drove the laptop for almost a month while regular laptop was out of order.

Just like the movie Terminator interpreted "Skynet". I think in real life, it is gaining momentum with all the different ways of tracking and helping the tracker to track precisely and quickly with the help of the most advanced helper/threat "AI".
I was digging through the android developer settings for fun recently, (im great at parties) and found a 'sensors off' setting you could enable. I can't use my camera, and I had a phone call with it on a accidently and they could never hear me. I like to keep it on whenever I dont immediately need my microphone or camera. It even goes so far as to not be able to detect phone rotation for horizontal and portrait changes.
no idea how easily something could be pushed from the phone carrier side of things to disable the 'sensors off' mode but it was a fun find nonetheless!
What's it called? Just curious.
This will make me paranoid, so cool you figured that out. I never messed with the settings, so I avoid all those mishaps.
@@Ermageeerd sensors off
@@Goodby-b8c Thanks, when I next use my phone, I'll check for this, thanks!
Rob has an old video on how to do this. I think I had to hit Developer options like 7 times for it to open.
Also your car has a sim buried into the dashboard.
Not mine, it's 40 years old.
Thank you 🎉🎉❤
My nephew is at a halfway house after getting railroaded into a prison sentence. He told me the only phones approved for use are Samsung, LG and Pixel phones. They make him put an app on that tracks him and makes him take pics at locations, etc. While i'm not against this for violent criminals, this is not my nephew. He tried to kill himself and then got a ton of charges racked up on him after surrendering himself. Lesson learned, just off yourself unless you want to go to prison. This is what happens when you live in a police state.
Korea?
I'm sorry that happened to your nephew. This outside-world situation absolutely sucks. Then youtubes not so subtle mind tricks deleting comments intermittently with no apparent purpose. I dont blame him I want out of here too.
Where?
On Android, there is a settings "Sensor Off" under Developer options. Does that work?
Yes. But only for the sensors it states (camera, mic)
@@robbraxmantech does being in developer mode make your phone more vulnerable to hacking ?

which if any phones offer any "advantages" for using "A.I. agents", etc?
Like if we were to get a phone to ONLY use FOR work and business use A.I. agent....
( so to keep our more important data and banking activities on a separate phone )
Are there any advantages to latest phones?
If so which ones or more specifically: what features or specs should be priority?
I have seen videos discussing running various limited independent A.I. programs locally on a device... are there any phones that could actually make use of any of these programs enough to make it worth considering? Or is it more of a novelty or is the technology too early/computing power too limited to be of any real benefit?
As I understand it a lot of A.I. is going to be SAS ( Softwate As A Service)...but what kind of use cases would this be a bad idea?
Like if testing an A.I. to use: sentiment data to facilitate small account trading on exchange?
What would be the important aspects to consider?
I hope you'll do a video on: How to MAKE USE OF: A.I. agents safely AND *optimally*
...since this is are going to change fast, I want to at least be capable of adapting and keeping pace...

Don’t forget about the microphone capabilities of a majority of modern smartphones.
For year, both iPhones and Sunsung have had (more than one) microphones in their smartphone devices. The variation of a PZM microphone is *easily capable* of hearing just a 5db sound to a range of over ten meters. Add another parameter into that one; it can specifically pick up a 5db sound original to you, if in that same area there are some one hundred people making all kinds of noise.
Very informative, do you think blackberry and degoogled phone provide the same level of anonymity??
Just because you turn Bluetooth off doesn’t mean Google can’t track you. Google has access to area businesses cameras. Oh and don’t forget about BLE. Pixel beacons are everywhere, especially inside the Goggle G stickers they give to their sponsors, I mean affiliates, I meant to say customers.
I can still rip it out with adb though. Can I?
Towards the end you hit on a great point. The premises is that anyone can be hacked. But is it worth it? If I was a worth billions or had a job where I hand'e sensitive or secret information then it would be worth someone doing it. Since I'm not I don't overly worry about it. That doesn't mean I don't do things to avoid it but in honesty they'd be wasting their time and money to do it. Meaning I'm not a prime target.
So I get a spam call don't answer go to make a call it says I'm on a call then goes through is that tracking?
Have you done a video on how to degoogle a phone and PC?
What is going on when my own phone number is calling me
What does a faraday bag do? Will it hide your location, speed, etc. What can a phone do while in the bag? Thank you.
I think it's supposed to act like it doesn't exist.
It blocks electromagnetic signals.
@@pathologicusmaximus It reflects RF preventing penetration. However, the higher the frequency (the shorter the wavelength), the tighter the weave must be. High security rooms often use wallpaper with random length nickle fibers instead of grounded welded sheet steel or fine mesh.
@ Ah that's interesting! Never heard about the wallpaper thing before.
Hello Rob first of all thank you for the effort to educate and share knowledge even if it seems often like talking to a wall with some people ;) i have a question about the faraday bags i have 3 in use from different brands what i noticed is in the begin it works good totaly offline ( i use them as in the desciption advised to prevent leakage ) i tested all 3 for like 2 -3 months but then i noticed my phone was still connecting to celluar network and recieving messages ....can it be that the signals from te towers getting stronger and stronger like the 4 g and 5 g ? or is the fabric that is used gonna leak after some time or can they do something to my phone from a distance so the farraday cage is not protecting enough ? maybe i better order farraday fabric and put it 3 double in the bag and restich it . If we subscribe to Microsoft office suite, how can we disable copilot which is automatically installed in the updates?
You likely don't. Sorry bud.
Luckily, there are alternatives like LibreOffice that are FOSS.
@ Thx!
Just write down all the emergency phone numbers on a paper that you need. Paper don't have any tracking. When you NEED to make a phone call, just borrow people phone or ask the business to borrow their phone like the old days.
On the subject of Ultrasonic Sound Tagging, I was under the impression that the public switched phone network only has about 4K of audio bandwidth(enough for speech and that's it). This would make it impossible for a phone call to have ultrasonic background noise.
So the solution is to have no phone at all?
Now you've got the picture. A phone with all the features turned off isn't a device you want to pay more than $25 for. I reside rurally, there's nobody around for 1/4 mile, and my name is on the RM map. Doesn't take a rocket surgeon to determine where I am at.
How do you degoogle your phone
Throw it in the river..........walk away.......never go back
I have 10gbps fiber, can your VPN routers handle that speed?
As for the mic threat, doing like Snowden and removing the mics from device and utilizing external mics only will prevent that yeah?
Just ditch the phone

Thank you. I’d love to hear your take on Deepseek.
I used to like keeping the phone assembly screws out so i could pry open the halves and disconnect the battery quickly.
Oh even super markets tracks , they do statistics and market studies
Interesting 👍 some companies insist, Google High Accuracy is switched onto use their service.
Once switched on, a VPN will not hide your location.
13:47: Forget airplane mode...Wow!

It also does not stop Bluetooth, if you have it enabled.
Why?
@@Goodby-b8cI'd like to know that too and see some proof that Airplane mode doesn't stop all signals being transmitted from it

So if a company requires particular apps on the phone, could you demand a company provided phone?
Good luck. Some do provide a phone to use at work.
Sometimes the company phone is for your safety... and their insurance rates.
Now _that's_ what I've been waiting for!!
Rob, I always like the ideas in your videos and take them seriously. I asked this question before, but did not get your reply. Can you please comment on using the 4G keypad phones available, say, Nokia 225 4G? It would be very helpful. I am not from America, in my country even 2G service is still there.
Factory reset doesn't remove malware that has compromised the "read-only" partition, or one of the EEPROMs. Additionally, if they can get in by some baseband exploit, they can just come back after you do the reset.
Terrific 3 years ago i paid over $1200 for a samsung notebook that has updated itself with copilot. I dont touch it now & no idea what to do with it. Feels like a pariah

Rob, for next Brax phone you could add physical switch for microphone, locations, camera and other feathers if it will have. Also ability to dismantle or unscrew those components for people if they decide they don't even want a GPS chip inside, or camera at all, or microphone like Snowden has done to his phone and only using headphones thru jack. And never the less, selfie camera at least to be able be covered or dismantled completely. I walk around with tape over my phone for years and sick of answering people why I did tape my selfie camera.
i got red electrical tape over mine. all the time. i dont need a selfie camera.

When you remove your sim card, they still see where you are. My Iphone is without sim and when I am on the move, by car or even walk, i get a message from my Iphone if I am not driving a car when I want to take a picture.

Hey Rob,if I turn off apple Intelligence on my Mac, does the ai really turn off, or is it just in the background still watching everything i am doing ???
Also you said not to use the iphone 16,apple computers with ai and windows computers with copilot, but I haven't seen you saying anything about samsung, they came out with the new s25 ultra and it has a lot of ai stuff, that new snapdragon 8 elite has a lot of ai capabilities without internet.I don't know exactly if it's going to work exactly like the iphone 16 but it seems to me that it will.I would like to hear your opinion about galaxy ai please
It would be great to hear a story from you about Facebook's new ban on anything linux. He calls it malware, but I think he's trying to push microsoft because he can invade it easier. (that or he's so low on money that billy is paying him to do it for the sake of his spyware)
Androids also send data even in flight mode once per minute. You can see it with an electrosmog measuring device
Really? Isn't that dangerous because the whole idea of airplane mode is safety of planes.
@@steveclark.. No. Because the safety of the aircraft's electronics is not the reason; the reason is so that there aren't forty-five passengers using their cell phone voice and annoying the other passengers and crew.
@everettputerbaugh3996 That's not what we've been told though and how different is that to all the passengers talking to each other on the plane? If that were the real reason, surely you would be told to stop talking once on board?

In case of computer hacks: what about a remotely upgradeable BIOS, or a Windows installer that is having a bootloader which is actually a trojan horse in the first place in the install package, or the kind of methods that were exposed by the Vault7 leak. Then again, those kind of hacks that were available by the Vault 7 were very likely possible already, before those, that were exposed by the Vault 7, were developed.

What is this DSL modem stuff? Not so many have those anymore. Or am I missing something?
