- So you're looking to stretch the legs on your new long range rifle/ scope setup? Stick around and check out this video as I provide a step by step look at the process I use when stretching the legs on a new precision rifle. We take an in depth look at the zeroing process, capturing bullet velocity, entering the critical information into your ballstic app and then using that app to provide a firing solution to take a shot at long range. I believe this video will provide value to both experienced long range shooters as well as those of you new to the sport. Let me know what you think!

Man... every man's wish is to have your backyard.
To be fair I have to drive a bit to have access to this ground but it’s an amazing place to get to shoot. Very thankful for the opportunity to shoot around here!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica From what I see, well worth the drive ! From what I see, you couldn’t ask for a better setting. Thanks for a very informative video.👍
@MountainsMulletsMerica what state are you in?
What your seeing is the Palouse country. It's very interesting and rolling and in some areas there's basalt canyons. Where the woods meet the Palouse fields is my favorite place
It's alot nicer with grass and trees lol
Protect this channel at all costs. This is by far the most educational long distance shooting channel I’ve ever seen. Because of your in depth details with POV scope cam helped me with my purchase of my tremor 3 reticle! I think a great new video/series would be of your reloading process if that would be possible?
Hey man, really appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel! My goal is to consistently put out entertaining content that also provides some kind of value to the viewer. Hope you'll stick around for future videos and share my channel with your friends when you get a chance! Regarding the tremor 3, you're going to love it. I remember I was initially nervous about going to a "christmas tree" style reticle but now that I've made the swap I'm not going back haha. A reloading video is on my to do list but it'll be down the road. For the immediate future I want to focus on shooting related content as that's what seems to be working. Given I'm still relatively new my focus now is just extending the reach of the channel and winning over more fans.
I agree this guy is great. If you like him I would recommend checking out the sniper 101 series by tibosauraus rex. My go to channel for long range shooting. Very educational.
@@MountainsMulletsMericaI’m a new shooter at LR. Great video ! Very informative and it’s nice to see a 308 making hits at distance
This is THE BEST long range demonstration & explanation I have ever seen. WOW!
Awesome! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel. Lots of fresh content in the works so hope you’ll stay tuned!
This guy is so cool. I've learned more from this video than any other vid I have watched. The scope video was super helpful. It was great to see what an experienced shooter does. It's really motivating.
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel! Hope you’ll stay tuned as I’ve got a ton more content just like this in the works. Just need to spend more time creating video content and less time working haha
Wow! No words to describe the level of knowledge provided. Snipers are always fascinating. I saw what I read on sniper's manual, the stage wise procedure. I'm from India and a common guy. I would probably never be able to shoot a fire arm. Just happy to see someone as fantastic as you. I hope you have millions of subscribers real soon. Those 1100+ yard shots! God bless you and lots of love ❤
I love that you choose 308 for this build and stretched it to 1150 first day, great shooting
Oh man I’m a huge 308 fan! Just something fun about running the underdog haha
@@MountainsMulletsMerica What do you think about 7mm-08?
@@jazon9 can’t say I really have an opinion on 7mm-08 specifically but I know 7mm is a great choice for long range in general. 7mm-07 is a round I’ve heard about for years but I don’t have any personal experience with. For myself, I can’t think of what advantage it would have vs other calibers I already own for the type shooting that I regularly do.
@@MountainsMulletsMericaIt’s crazy that 308 is scoffed at these days, I picked up a scar17 and started hand loading my own 169 SMK rounds. Mannnn what a fun experience it is to see handmade bullets put 1” groups at 200y
Here is the average guy talking to the average crowds and getting outstanding results 10 thumbs up.. :)
This is exactly the goal of my channel! I'm just an average shooter so I'm hoping to connect with other average shooters. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Stay tuned for future content as this is the exact format I plan to use moving forward!
I know a little about everything in this video but man I wish I seen this earlier in my learning of long range ballistic/shooting. It’s one of the most straightforward educational videos w/o any bs in between 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your teaching skill are as good as the shooting. Look forward to more of this type of content 👌
Thanks for taking the time to break it down in Crayola for the new shooters. Everybody should be able to learn something from this.
Man this was superb, I Never stretched my 308 out to 1000 yards, much less 1100, but they seems to still be pretty stable! My rifle shoots these 175 SMKs really well! Glad to know what they’re capable of. 👍 Great shots, great video!
I’m a bow hunter and have been wanting to get into long distance shooting. I have watched a lot of other videos but still had questions. This video answers them all. Thank you
Absolutely an awesome video. I used basically the exact same prep to get my first 308 rifle out to 1000 yds. Watching your video I definitely learned a lot. I could definitely get used to watching your videos.
I love your videos, I learn so much from them. I am just getting into long range shooting, so I am always on the hunt for information. There are a lot of great shooting channels on UA-cam, but you have a way of talking through what you are doing that really lends itself to teaching. I really appreciate your content and I am so glad to have found your channel.
Absolutely love this! I’m dipping my toe into LR shooting and I couldn’t be more happy I found this. Super down to earth and easy to follow. Keep up the good work bro!
Awesome! Glad it sounds like the timing worked out perfectly for you. Stay tuned as I’ve got a ton more content just like this planned!
I'm just getting into long range shooting. Been mostly doing close range for kicker stuff. Recently picked up a Ruger RPR 308 so I'm excited to see what it can do. I'll definitely be using the tips on this video for my first outing.
Awesome! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Sounds like you've got yourself a great rifle to get started in long range shooting. I'm a huge RPR fan given the amount of features and performance they give you for the price point. Stay tuned as I've got more videos just like this in the works!
You make fantastic content and your speech is quite articulate. Thank you for this well rounded informational video. You’ve answered so many questions in a single video. Loved this!
I seriously doubt that I will ever shoot ELR but I sure enjoy watching you shoot and explain all the mechanics of ELR. Thank you for the very clear and informative videos!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and support the channel! Hopefully one of these days you’ll get the opportunity to push a rifle out to distance…. It’s super fun but crazy addicting haha
i watched you on the Texas Plinking 1000 yrd challenge and he mentiined your channel so i went to check it out and realised i was already subbed ,your channel is great as opened my eyes to long range with a gas gun ,,always been a bolt gun guy for long range and never thought much of using a gas gun ,,and now with modern tech and modern gas guns ,,well there just getting better and better which is awesome ,,now you can pretty much buy a good gas gun that is an all rounder ,for a number of things ,,long range fun ,two or three gun comps ,,hunting ,,range fun and home defence if totally needed but really one quality gas gun can do all these things which before i didn't think was possible ,,,so thanks for opening my eyes to this !!w
I like that reticle. He shoots the reticle rather than dialing up and down. Very smart
Hello, loved the video.new to long range shooting.66 years old.just purchased a rifle, optics and reloading equipment to get started.starting out with 6.5 prc in a winchester, knowing ill be changing it out as i gain knowledge and experence.thanks for showing me how its done.
* * Very impressed with your skills!!!....
But even more impressed with your surroundings...and WIDE SPACE TO SHOOT VERY VERY LONG DISTANCE !!! * * Damn...!
Very informative! Digging the honesty and especially the none repetativeness and running around with a shakey camera. Very well set up and knowledgeable. Keep up the good videos!
Thank you! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch. Just out here trying to create entertaining content that provides some kind of value for the viewer. Stay tuned as I’ve got so much planned for the channel this year.
I consider myself to be an intermediate level shooter both with regards to my knowledge and my level of skill. Most videos that I watch are a review, as far as the mechanics of shooting go. this is the first video that I have watched that explains why the parallax adjustment is called the parallax adjustment and how that actually relates to parallax. I have always just thought about it as the "focus" knob. This gave me the knowledge necessary to evaluate whether my parallax is adjusted correctly, which has always been a struggle due to my astigmatism. That has probably caused more than a few "flyers" as moving my head position might have caused a shift in point of aim /impact. Thanks! You've earned a new subscriber.
The best long distance shooting channel ever. Period
Thank you! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and support the channel!
The name of your channel resonates with me on a spiritual, borderline intimate, level.
Enjoyed the video. Appreciate the real world equipment evaluation. Keep em coming.
Awesome content! Really appreciate you taking the time to teach and encourage shooters to try longer range shooting. Your instruction really makes it doable for anybody. Thanks again! Would love to see a vid of you building (assembling) a bolt action precision rifle!
You do a very good job demonstrating and describing these skills. Nicely done. Maybe try a few brands of ammo to see if it will dial down or add a tuner. Always fun to play around. Bring us along if you do.
For sure planning to try different ammo as well as work up some handloads for the rifle. Planning to document the process in future videos. After my first trip out with this rifle I’m super pumped with how it performed and I’m confident it’ll only get better from here. Thanks for watching again!
production value rising quickly
Thank you! Hoping to get better with each video. One of these days I may have to upgrade my gear but for the time being I’m happy with how the videos are turning out. Appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I use the same tactics and process. My builds take me alittle more time. Load developement and barrel break-in. Ballistic calculator and solid data is key. Chrono seals the deal.
Barrel "break-in" as it was traditionally done (shoot one, clean, shoot five clean, shoot ten clean, whatever) has mostly been determined as pointless, if you are using modern custom barrels. The burrs and tool marks that were so common in the past just aren't an issue any more with modern manufacturing, be it button or hammer forged. What is critical is that you clean the bore of any manufacturing oils, protect the bore with a very light coat of lubricant (Ballistol, CLP, or any of the dozens of Gucci products you prefer), and then establish copper equilibrium. This is accomplished by shooting your intended bullet and tracking velocity, it will start slow then speed up and then level off. That leveling off point tells you that the bullets have deposited a layer of copper into the bore and for the next 800-2000+ rounds (depending on what you're shooting) you should expect very consistent velocities if you continue to use the same load and don't clean it so hard that you remove the desirable copper fouling. When you see a drop-off in velocity, it is an indicator that the barrel is approaching end of life (typically from throat erosion).
Wow a real video showing the process not wasting time on trivial commentary not sub 10 min rushing. Saving this for handing out. Another thing to consider is twist rate to round choice. Not pushed my new build yet in 1:11.25 but solid between 100 then 250 with near center impacts same holds in .308. The 6.5 Creedmoor did not really care and more centered each shot. Both seem very good, my goal is 1k shots someday.
As a new rifle shooter/hunter this is really awesome, great knowledge and well explained, I also appreciate the normal delivery instead of some of these cheesier G.I Joe guys on youtube. Thanks for sharing, that rifle is a looker also. I might have to build one out for my .308 setup, I'm shooting a Bergara B14 HMR Wilderness 6.5 PRC right now and loving it. Keep doing your thing man, this is entertaining and great information
Thank you for a brill video. New to Long Range, very helpful

I enjoy your videos a heck of a lot. I have built 3 different rifles in the last 10 years and went from knowing almost nothing to being knowledgeable thanks to videos like this. Really enjoyed the 300prc vs 338L you did recently. My fav caliber so far is my 6.5saum. Maybe a 300prc is in my future.
Perfectly done! Going to be downloading that app. No stranger to others but sold. Now I just need some mountains and a mullet😂 I’m Indiana country myself so I’ve got fields.
Oh man thanks for education us newbies.. I'm trying to get into precision just to get the feel of it..
Appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope you found this one valuable! I’ve realized a lot of shooting content on UA-cam is focused on a long range shooter with experience…. I’m thinking some basic how to long range videos could really help out a ton of viewers. That said, stay tuned for more!

Awesome. I just bought a savage prefit for 7prc. Need a chassis now. Using the receiver from my first gun a cheap old savage 110
Oh man where did you find a 7PRC savage prefit barrel? Now you’ve got me wishing I had a Magnum sized pristine receiver…. 7PRC is one I really want to get my hands on this year! You’ll have to let me know how it shoots.
Maybe a bit late on this, but I’m sure I saw a 7PRC on PR’s website the other day. My savage impulse in 7PRC with the PR carbon fiber barrel is on its way to me, and sorry if this has been asked, but no break-in?
Good show, and good to see that you chose the .308. I have a Schneider barrel in .308 that shoots 5 inch steel gongs at 600 yards really good. Barrel life is great with the .308.
Excited to see a comparison between the LMT and SR25. You showed us your ballistics app rifle library. ;)
Haha I wondered how many folks would notice what all is in the library
Great, shooting, brother! This is definitely one of the best long range, demonstrations and explanations I've ever seen! Keep shooting straight !

I just started watching your process. Spot on. Not holding back anything just proving anyone can do it. If they put in the work.
Thanks for the education.
Awesome! Really appreciate you taking the time to stop by and check out the channel! My goal with this video is exactly what you described…. I wanted to show anyone can shoot long range and a defined process can make you so much more successful. Hope you’ll stick around, lots of new videos coming!
This looks like more fun than I've had since high school!
Another super informative lesson, you're a great teacher. I've been wanting to build a rifle like this one, maybe I'll sell the RPR I have in .308.
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to watch. This is my first exposure to the savage pre fit configuration and so far I’m a huge fan. So much flexibility offered by being able to swap your own barrel at the user level. That said though you’ve got a great rifle in the 308 RPR already, the RPR offers a ton of capability at a great price point!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica thanks for the reply. I haven’t really had the ability to stretch out the RPR and see it’s full capabilities, there really aren’t many long range places to shoot in Michigan. Would love to find a 1,000 yard range and eventually make the 1 mile impact.
@@Alvin_C_York man I know how you feel. I grew up in GA where getting to shoot even 300 yds was a challenge. It wasn’t til I moved out west that I really got to chase my long range dreams haha

I am verry impressed by the way you host your channel, your explanation is textbook, by that I mean: calm and clear explanation, step by step telling of what you do and that in a logic way.
Of cause I subscribed to your channel and hope to see more of this.
Oh and there is a lot more of earlier video's to watch.

Love that you feature this particular MDT chassis!
Great chassis for the money. I like the chassis concept with a traditional style feel and this fit the bill well. More content coming with this rifle so hope you’ll stay tuned!
I'm jealous of your limitless range! Mine only has 1,200-1,450 yards of shootable space. I shoot mainly AR type rifles but I've found even 5.56 is viable for the distances I have available. Keep up the great videos!
Only? What I wouldn't give for even 1200 yards of shooting space. Y'all are blessed!
Great Job laying out the steps and logic for each step!
Decent!
However… you conclude the session with substantial remaining uncertainty in your fire solution. It is possible to achieve full validation of fire solution in one session… but there are prerequisites including:
1) tall target test to validate level and turret tracking.
2) starting with a fire solution based on a custom drag model (CDM) or a G7 BC trued to match a CDM solution at the furthest distance you will shoot.
3) invest more rounds into your zero. Shoot a 5-10rd group and use an app to measure the exact centre of the group and enter that group centre into your solution along with the environment conditions at the time the zero group was shot.
4) measure the temperature, station pressure and humidity with a device like a kestrel drop D3. Enter those values into your solution.
5) get MV measurements at high temp and at low temp and enter into solution. Keep an eye on MV over time and keep updating the solution as the MV migrates.
Almost always… if I do the above I achieve perfect vertical solution at all supersonic ranges without having to true the BC any further. Occasionally a small BC truing tweak is required…. I have found that the applied ballistics custom drag model solutions are very accurate for achieving first round hits.
Walking hits in to find a solution through trial and error works but it is more satisfying to do all the math and 100m homework in advance and show up with a solution that is on point right out of the gate.
Loved the video !! I'm about to do the exact same thing you did !! Can't for for goodies to arrive !! Nice shooting !!
Real enjoyable to see your process for shooting increasing distances.
Its crazy how long it took for someone on youtube to upload something like this. Thanks for the lesson!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch! Seems like a lot of times the basics get overlooked in long range content. My goal is to put out a handful of these basic how to videos around various long range concepts. Seems like this idea has been well received so far. Stay tuned for more.
@@MountainsMulletsMerica im here for it man! I’ve been watching from the beginning and it just keeps getting better and better!
Those factory fresh barrels might still have microscopic burrs in them- probably why your ballistics seemed to change over the course of fire. Might be worthwhile to 'mag dump' a bit cheaper ammo for the first 30 rounds to polish it out a bit. That being said, you were still getting very good results for first rounds fired. I would only expect it to improve as the gun settles in and you get familiar with it- very well done!
I've had some friends rag on Riton (gear snobs are going to gear-snob), but I'm glad to see it seems very serviceable and functional for pushing out. Appreciate your vids!

Haha great timing it sounds like! Thanks for watching…. Hope you were able to find some value in this video!
@@MountainsMulletsMerica Absolutely, learned a few new things that will help me. Do you feel the need to put a bubble level on the optic ever?
@@anarchyrun8253 100% a level is a must have for shooting long range. You’ll get windage errors from just a bit of cant in your rifle. A level is a relatively cheap way to improve your long range consistency.
Thank you for the knowledge transfer. It really is 2nd to none.
Loved this video and caliber choice. I’d like to know more about your bipod choice.
Awesome, appreciate you taking the time to watch! 308 gets a lot of hate but I will always be a fan! Just running an old Harris bipod in this video but it’s only temporary. I will be actually running an accutac bipod on this rifle however when I filmed this video I didn’t have a pic rail section to put on the stock to actually mount the accutac. Given the stock came with a sling stud in it I was able to mount the harris which is good enough to get the job done. Next time you see this rig though it’ll be equipped with an accutac. Thanks for watching!
I strongly recommend doing a tall target test at 100m to verify your level and to determine how much your turret actually dials before attempting long range. For example you might dial 10mil but then hit at 9.5mil at 100m. In this example the turret is tracking 5% low. Any good ballistic app will allow you to input the amount that your turret actually tracks and correct your dial amount accordingly. If you do not do this step you could end up thinking the problem is your BC or your MV and you will start chasing your tail. Plenty of videos out there showing how to properly conduct tall target tests.
I have to say... I am jealous of you place! Here we have dense borealis forest and until recently we were able to shoot in mining waste fields. It was like shooting in the desert with all the cons but it was the only place we had a straight mile...
Man I’m very lucky to have access to the ground I’m able to shoot on. What part of the country are you in?
@@MountainsMulletsMerica I'm in Canada, 49 parallel. In the worst province for gun owners... Québec.
@@northman77 oh man from what I hear Canada in general is pretty tough on gun owners. Can only imagine how bad you’ve got it if Quebec is know to be the worst….

Straight forward, .308 was good example choice for me. A lower cost rifle for me with only a muzzle brake. See how I do! Thanks for the post.
That ballistics calculator is insane, put in information and boom your spot on, why do sniper still write on paper and do the math themselves, they could spend 10 bucks and they have there shot spot on 😳
Could it work for my air rifle???
Well done!!! .308 is a very good round to learn to shoot long distance with. I, however, do my calculations with formulas and not with any app. Good shooting!!!💯🤙
Good lord that is one expensive build if you had to buy all the components. Nice shooting

Thank you for spending time to make this educational video. Just got back from a satisfying 500 m shooting run, so I can relate to that content for sure. It's interesting that you are using MILs, I'd hold for the MOA = US stereotype, but this is math anyway, so whatever rings your bells.
Keep up the good work.
one thing people get wrong about headspace gauges is you DONT need a no go gauge. You should only need the go gauge. Screw your barrel into the action with the bolt closed using the go gauge as a stopping point.
Excellent video! I spent all last summer dialing in a load that I wanted to feel good about so I could go out to 1000 yds with my savage elite percision 6.5cm . I think I was way to picky and should have just went an had fun at the long range. I sure went through a pile of ammo!!! My group is under a dime at 100. Can't wait to try it out to 1000
Man I know how you feel…. Anymore if I’m able to shoot 1 moa I’m happy. That’s plenty accurate for the type shooting I do and it’s way more beneficial to spend your time shooting at distance vs trying to squeeze out tiny groups at 100 yds. I’ve spent a ton of time and money through the years chasing tiny groups and it always leads to frustration haha
Thank you for the Awesome demonstration!!! Definitely caught my interest in learning more about long distance shooting!
Appreciate you taking the time to watch! Be careful though, long range shooting gets addictive quick haha
Badass review and very informative! Will be watching your channel regularly
Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to support the channel!
Have been looking forward to this video since you sent me the message about it! Super cool build you did with the XRS chassis
Hope the video lived up to the hype haha. Tell you what…. I’m a fan of the xrs chassis. Sharp looks, traditional feel and the ability to customize as desired make it super handy. More content coming with this rifle this month so hope you’ll stay tuned!
Hey bud , this videos are really cool, and a new person coming in to the sport can really learn alot.
the hardest part of getting rounds that far out , is finding the land to do it on lol.
