    That's intense, but I can hear it now. Damn it's amazing these guys can play on such complicated grooves and have fun... Looks like they don't even think about it

    This is fresh air. I'm Terry gross. My guest is a dolphin tax attorney who communicates with his clients through jazz bassoon, and he has some advice on financial vehicles to optimize your windfall from the next round of narwhal IPOs.

    well the way I hear it, it's 1/8th note triplets in 9/4. It became apparent during the piano solo, when he starts playing 1/16th notes, and if you count the main riff in 1/8th notes, what he does becomes impossible, or at the very least improbable. I'd love to hear how ben wendel counts it. :)

      I'm with you. And Nate Wood is playing quarter notes in 9/4 with his hi hat.

      ModalModule ModalModule meter is something like 7/16 + 7/16 + 2/4 + 5/16, Nate wood is grouping 3 sixteenths at a time in the left foot. Results also in a bar with 9 beats of “triplets” creating a true polymeter

    • @jvegaalbela
      @jvegaalbela 6 років тому

      At least in the beginning section, solo section the grouping gets freeer it feels like

    • @gavingro

      with the bridge and the blowing it changes from 9 big beats to 5 big beats. From 7+7+8+5 to 7+8.

      Gavin’s correct - as it was explained to me (after I got it wrong 🤣), Head is in 9 and bridge/soloing is in 5.

    Influenced by African Bembe and Cuban music, sure... but these guys are definitely doing something new

      You just have to be all in. There is no other way to play it. Damn..

    How are you counting this song? Everytime I try, I get lost lol

  • @peteradamhill
    @peteradamhill 12 років тому +2

    Origins of these rhythmic concepts probably aren't metal....
    More likely to be African Bembe and Cuban music.
    It is brilliant none the less.

    Jazz came from African rhythm, styles of jazz include blues. Out of blues came rock and from rock metal. So Jazz influenced metal so to speak.
