You're not spending more "just to get the gold pick guard" You're also getting the binding on the finger board and the block in lays and gold hardware.
40th anniversary differnces is not just a gold anodized pickguard it also has the large 70's headstock and big block neck inlays and gold hardware and a more limited production run 2022
Also worth mentioning that the 40th Anniversary is limited edition and will certainly be more valuable in the future than the classic vibes series. Could be an investment.
It's hardly just a cosmetic difference. The neck on the 40th is a new piece, fatter, with the block inlays and binding.Since the neck does represent about 65% of the cost of a given guitar, the price difference makes sense. With all the Squier JM's I've owned in the past, I replaced the neck; I would leave the 40th as is. Could care less about the gold either way,- do prefer nickel/chrome ,- but I felt that it played and sounded much better with a decent set up.I'd suggest that if you can't tell, by all means,- buy the less expensive model. As a luthier friend pointed out, $600 is a lot for a Squier, but then,- what hasn't become stupid $ post Lockdown?
If I remember correctly too, the squier anniversary has a neck on a small angle. It's also easy to buy a small block to put between the neck and body for an angle, but I hear the angle makes the strings easier to play?
@@yoshistover5881 The shim in JM necks is a known fix, but it seems like both the Pao Ferro and Maple 40th models are redesigns; I noticed this almost immediately, and this was yet another strong selling point. Prices are already down from the release date; and the pickups in this model are 100% all JM.
@@mitchconnerandsometimesjlotoo mine cv has a punchier and high tone, 40an is more like a vintage guitar with slightly demagnetized pickups. But that's a real slight difference between two models
Did you notice if the neck profiles are the same? On fender's website they specify that the Classic Vibe has a slim C neck profile, but the 40th anniversary one juste says C shape, without specifying. Thanks!
I noticed this too. The model of the pickups are identical I even swapped them. Thinking about changing the pots. Just don’t sound as good as the 60s version.
no a fan of the 70s oversized headstock, the ugly laurel fingerboards, lighter shade of lacquer I like the vintage 40th anniversary I believe its the most tasteful jazzmaster up to date with the exception of the matte finish which is going to wear out

The headstock of the 40th Anniversary model shows a much more beautiful wood grain. 😍

It’s squier. Hold your horses.
Somehow it sounds like the CV has better sound! I like the headstock of the 40th anniversary. Don't like the gold elements though.

I own a 60's CV and just ordered a 40th anniversary Vintage blonde one. The CV is so good that I couldn't help myself and ordered the second one.
Do they sound the same?

Interesting that in other demos or reviews the 40th sounds a lot punchier. Was yours set up properly?
I would want the 40th Anniversary just for the smooth neck and the fret inlays. I've only got to play a CV and I liked it a lot though.
Good review, thanks.

40th Anniversary uses the J Mascis neck profile ?
Nice Bro pickups AND amp setting please
Sorry, you can't beat that glossy 3-color 'burst with the tortoiseshell pickguard.
They both sound just beautiful though.
I think it's the perfect style for a JM, but i'm so in love with the olympic white ^^
Excellent demo considering you ran them through an affordable amp. CV has the best tone as I heard them back to back.
What can you say about the pickups? Are they different?
It's the same man, only the looks that different
got the cv jazzmaster.love it after some love.all songs on my channel use it..stock
Sound really good.
The 40th has a thinner sound for some reason. It’s brighter too but pretty sure the pickups are the same.
Pickguard !

£289 at Thomann!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anniversary guitars always share the same problem: 5 years later, nobody will care.
Collectors certainly care. Limited runs always end up being more valuable.
