"This one's in white." Probably the best line you've had so far. I laughed out loud. Nearly spit out my coffee.
Lol “pro tip”: to avoid the fingerprints, permanently wrap your fingers in Sith Audio electrical tape, $139 per roll.
Nice to see you having fun and getting sucked into a few extra tracks. I love it when a song sounds so good it kicks off a random playlist that lasts an hour or two.
Randy, I absolutely love your videos. You have helped me to completely change my viewpoint about what ‘good’ hi-fi can really mean. I have been chasing ‘audiophile’ quality components to achieve a sound signature that I learned I have no idea how to achieve. I’m also a hearing aid wearer and this completely jacks up my hearing, whether they are in my ears or not. I’ve found I need to go simple with something that has reasonably adjusted tone control. Anyone else listening with me might be screwed and the dog is unnecessarily punished with my ridiculous highs but I enjoy.
Anyway, you’ve opened my eyes to the fact that there are so many excellent components out there that can make listening a pleasure without worrying about breaking the bank or the disappointment of mismatched finicky high-end stuff that is a nightmare to pair up.
Anyway - thank you for what you do and how you have made information and education about hi-fi both understandable and achievable. I’m convinced you are resetting the paradigm around hi-fi listening. At least for me. ✌️
You make everything sound so enticing that I have to binge listen to everything you create, which isn't a bad thing, but my wallet is protesting. Keep up the great work.
Can I just say that The Cheap Audio Man makes me laugh... He"s hilarious!
Yes you can. And if anyone disputes, we’ll send the Rocktopus after them.
Thanks, George. I really enjoy making these videos and hope that I can bring a little humor to people's lives
The sponsors are the best
Here it is compared to a mini rubix cube is the one that got me 😂
You cant say that. Them words is BANNED bruh
Love that you did this setup, it's exactly how I do it, Airplay to tv to Kinter K2020A+($35) amp to KLH bookshelf speakers from the 90's. Cheap and it plays music.
I recently started using AirPlay through my tv instead of the Bluetooth built into my Yamaha receiver. It’s a subtle improvement but definitely sounds better. The Yamaha Bluetooth still sounds good enough that I wouldn’t be too upset if I didn’t have the airplay option.
Love this guys reviews laughing while learning ..great job man
Remember this day, Randy says "This is a Tower Speaker Room" , Love it. WIll be waiting on the Polk towers you have on deck!
Just joy watching Randy having fun.
Thanks! Already a patreon supporter, but I laughed out loud more than once.
Just a jolly video.
Ha! Well thanks so much, man. I really appreciate it. I had fun making this one.
“This one’s in white” - as he points to the red speaker he’s holding LOL
Very entertaining review! Chuckled all the way through. Great info of these speakers! Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve O. I had a blast making this one
I tried the sandpaper. The upside is they don’t fall apart when you throw them at your screen because they are scratched. I like the white, it’s very colourful.
"This one's in white" 😆 I had to play that over 3x and still laugh at how smooth you were.
My favorite parts of this video have nothing to do with the speakers.
- 1. Holy crap does it look like you're having fun!
- 2. Acknowledging other audio UA-cam folks when the opportunity presents itself
Kudos for not developing a ginormous head with such rapid success.
Job well done sir!
Awesome review! I enjoyed the addition of music and commentary.
@cheapaudioman
Project always had some great value stuff! I'm a fan of the turntables they make. Also not related but I just recently got dsp working with volumio on my raspberry pi3b+ and Digi hat. It's awesome! I bought a umik 1 mic and got some measurements with Rew sorfware. Once I got responce data i auto eq'd. (Tutorials etc found on UA-cam). Then I just copied all settings into fusiondsp/volumio ui in the graphic eq setting. And boom an all in one streamer and room correctio/eq dsp combo for Less than £100. As your thecheapaudioman thought I better get it on your radar as it's recently had a stable update and comes as plugin on volumio 3! Absolute game changer for my setup in my room! Enjoy.
Awesome to see this get a review, especially because I've been planning to build a system around the Pro Ject Primary E turntable, and they offer a really tempting bundle that includes that turntable, these speakers, and their Stereo Box S2 BT amp.
I now know that both the turntable and speakers are good; if only i could find a single review of the amp (honestly, the bundle is good enough value that it would probably still be worth it even if the amp is mediocre).
I’ve been binge listening to my CSS Audio Torri. Loving every minute of it. I can’t wait to see how the Criton 1TDX sound! I’m currently in penny pinching mode to get them.
Just Got these used for 60 US dollars, now I have really nice sound in the kitchen. Preparing food makes way more fun now🎶🎶
I own them in white and I bought them based on Nemos review. They are great speakers built like a tank with a painted finish. They sound very close too Paradigm atom monitors as well as Focal Chora 806 both of which cost more.Great job Randy!!
Thanks for sharing
I bought them based on this review, almost can't believe such small speakers make such a "large" and "full" sound, really impresses by them, highly recommended!
Good low driver, with some solidity of a cabinet, can together make for good bass.
Great job, Randy 👍
You has me L-ingOL at your royalty-proof audio samples!
Love this speakers color!
Nice video the speaker sounds good great that you dig miles what a classic record music on.peace man
Probably one of your funniest videos. Thanks bro. content was great also.
great format👍
Great vid as always Randy, funny too as your comment about wiping fingerprints off with sandpiper literally made me bust out laughing while i was sipping my cuppa Joe.
What people always seem to forget when talking about low sensitivity is the following:
If you have smallish speakers, you most likely wont sit 7 meters away from them so you still don't need that much power to listen to them. So it doesn't matter too much.
great point
I have my really small rear speakers in my 6.1 system at least 8 foot away from me. I think one is about 22' away. I can't remember the measurement I took for setting up my dystem
Love this Channel, just a great guy!
Thanks!
I was able to sit through this rev
iew,much better than usual.
As a geologist, we are required to put items in our photos to indicate scale.
I have a 2’ tall Swiss Army Knife from a store display I use when I want to make things look smaller, and a rock hammer tie clip for when I want things to look huge.
References matter…thanks for choosing yours wisely.
A lot of LOL comments in here, one of your funniest reviews for sure. But informative, always informative!
Agee about your comment about the distance from back wall, Randy. 👍 If it has a rear port, BACK of speaker to rear wall, yep matters a lot! I think most folks will get that. BUT ALSO, as boxes are never perfectly rigid, a front ported speaker's rear panel or even a portless speaker's back panel can and will radiate to the rear wall. Again the distance to back wall from speaker's rear panel matters!
Great review
Lost boys is a classic. Love it.
Brother, I love the production value and this style of review! That, and I'd pay good money for a bobblehead in your likeness! Lol!
Ha. Thanks, man
It would be an awesome addition to my main rig! I'm sure it will only increase the audiophile-ness of my whole collection!
Awesome review
I’d like to see it compared to the JBL Studio 220, the uncrowned CHAMP of this “weight” class! Great video!
I see what you did there about the fingerprints Randy! Hahahahah I legit laughed when you said that
Another nice and entertaining review! I give you a lot of credit for "singing" in the camera. Any idea in comparison to the R-51M?
@magggas0 Please do and thank you. Happy Memorial Day!
I have a pair of high gloss edifier satellites (the S730's) and you're right, these speakers would sound so much better without the fingerprints
Love to have some of that Sith Audio coffee you are sipping on today.
coming sooner than you think
Great review, Randy! I like the sound clips almost like New Record Day's sound clips with commentary but edited much better. These are sharp looking speakers and glad they sounded as good as they look.
Man! That INXS & Jimmy Barnes track from Lost Boys is a killer track to rock out to. I bet you could DIY a speaker close to the Pro-Ject's quality at this price, but you'd better have some wood working and crossover skill.
Thanks!
wow. thank you so much!
Man I miss the days when teenage vampire movies weren't stupid, good times...
Also really digging the generic music choices, higher quality video and all the size comparisons too!
Nemo rocks, so do you my man. Thanks again
I’ll be grabbing my JD and plenty
Gedday from oz
Randy, your comedy shtick is getting better and better
nice job WasCheapAudioMan !
That red is slick AF...
4:16 - Nothing really beats an outdoor rock concert where the front man is a Muscle-Bound Jock, simultaneously thrusting his hips, singing, and blowing a tenor sax, while half-naked and sporting prized greasy locks.
Great review, damn those fingerprints to hell, lol. Yeah I agree, sandpaper will do the trick.😎
That’s the controller they used in the movie “The Thing,” but you probably couldn’t see it because of the arctic camo
you should review the Acoustic Energy AE100 Mk2. Hopefully you will be able to. They should be really good value for money (£260 here in UK).
Also audition Mission QX1 mk2 in Uk retail £299 - Incredible build quality & inverted 38mm tweeter
I have the QX2s mk2s which go a little deeper as not using sub .
Hi Randy. Not sure if you tested the Kanto YU Passive before but if you have how would they compare? I have them in office for near field and I am drawn to the red I mean white color of these beauties. Thanks for all the great content and advise.
Randy, I have read reviews about these spkrs. Would you consider reviewing the bookshelf spkr from Outlaw Audio. Thnx.
A reccomendation, you should try leveling the transitions to your speaking voice volume because they nearly blew my ear drums out with how much louder they are than the rest of the video. I was trying to wipe down my speakers which was highly unfortunate timing
Weiman Lemon Oil works good on gloss/ wood finishes
Proud owner pairing them with Dali Spector 2 connected to a Yamaha AS501 including a Jamo sub.
Hi Randy. May I ask you what sounded better: the Emotiva B1 or the Pro-ject Speaker Box 5? Thank you in advance.
Great way to do a review
Glad you enjoyed it
Could you review the red version next please.
White is a bit too clinical for my liking.
Pretty sure it's faster in red.
ha
I am wondering which would be better as a desktop speakers, if this Pro-Ject 5 or Dali Spektrum 1. I like how these look :)
HEY. Whats that app on the Iphone in the video? And thanks for your channel. I bought SVS , Klipsch 5's and emotiva.
that was tidal
How would you compare these to the Fluance XL8S?
How do these compare to the Elac UB-52's and the lower priced Debut Elacs? Might there be a Shootout in the near future? Thank You Randy! 👍
Possibly!
Try some Sith Audio carnauba wax to polish those cabinets. Unrestricted air flow makes an audible difference. Trust me.
Never say a speaker is underpriced...don't encourage them. Prices everywhere are high enough.
I like the ehite speaker😉
You said “Cry Little Sister” and my mind movie was already playing “The Lost Boys”. Thank you sir.
The red color is pretty cool..she's a beaut
ha
listening to this on the very same speaker use them in the office☺
7:47 So good your head "wobbles"
I’ve got my cup of coffee- Bulletproof Coffee made with Irish Butter.
Audiophile 220 grit sandpaper, audiophile! Thank you!
I wish yall would open the speakers more often
Waffle sounds great on the ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 Hopefully need of break-in explain why the bass seemed less on the Uni-Fi References
Hi. I recently bought the project evo carbon. Could you recommend speakers/amplifier or active speaker for this turntable. I don't have a lot to spend unfortunately. Thanks in advance for any advice or help
How about those Buchardt @2:46?
Are you going to review them? Is it the s400 mkii?
Try them with Magnat MA 400 or Magnat MA 600 little hybrid Integrated amps with some decent tube like Tesla e88cc and Chord Rumour 2 or Audioquest CV 8 dbs speaker cables and Wireworld Stratus 7 power cord for amp.
Best buy
are these a better buy than the emotiva b1+?
dude... love you man. "this is how big it is compared to tube of antibiotic" the question to ask you ... is this your new favorite 700pr speaker ? how does it compare to wharf 4.1s ? how does it compare to elac unifi 2.0 ?
At the moment, only 1 pair of white Pro-Ject Box 5 speakers left in stock at Amazon.
Well now I have no idea how big these are. What is the ratio of Neosporin tubes to wookies? (ca. 1977 Kenner)
Hi Randy. These speakers definitely caught my attention for their size. It's been a while since you've reviewed them, but do you remember how these might stack up against the Q Acoustics 3020? I need a pair at 10.5" tall or shorter.
Q's are a little more "reserved". these are more exciting and definitely punchier in the bass
@@cheapaudioman Thank you for the fast, excellent reply.
Randy, this could be a game changer?
I have a grain 20 sand paper. Can I use it?
Would I be able to use 3 of these as my L/C/R? I'll add a subwoofer of course. The size of these would look better in a living room home theatre than big towers.
This came in white (0:36)when is RED ... ok , I grabbed a cup of beer ...😁
Threaded inserts and port on the back: pick one
Randy why isn´t the Aiyima T9 on your recommended amp list?
That’s a pretty shade of white
Not many good reviews about in ceiling speakers, they're a pain to install and rotate so i get it, untapped area though, how much if any insulation behind speaker, whether to build box around or not, optimal placement.....
Would love this.... A lot of work for a reviewer though. I think Erin's audio corner does it.
It seems that there is S2 version of these with bigger woofer.
I think it would be a good idea to compare the S2’s to these 5’s, since they want like twice as much!
The S2 have real wood veneer, the S2's are also made in Europe, not sure if these are.
@@thomasward00 😮Woah, that seems like a lot of money for changing cabinet material..
I wonder how the tonal impressions change?
@@shipsahoy1793 Comparing the two online, it seems that some specs are different as is the weight, S2 is the second current version.
@@jillhannant9806 👍Thanks for the additional feedback. Sounds to me like something to avoid. I’m all set with high end floor standing stereo speakers, but
I’d like to have an inexpensive, best bang for the buck set of full range bookshelf speakers for night listening upstairs, but still looking. That’s why I always watch the bookshelf speaker reviews from several content creators.😉☕️👨🏻
