I purchased an art journal for my child at Walmart for 9 dollars. It has thick pages suitable for all types of mediums. I then went to the fabric department and let her pick out a fabric to modge podge onto the cover. It keeps the journals personalized and we will use them until they're full!
I did purchase this as well but I'm curious did you purchase any additional resources to go with it? I've seen some people use "The handbook of Nature Study" and "Nature Anatomy" to go with it. Also would love to see or hear what resources you ended up choosing for your journals!
I love the Charolette Mason style!! We nature journal once a week, each kid has their own spiral and I will let them pick their own topic or I will give them a topic. We use paint, map colors, crayons, etc. depending on our topic.
Please continue to share updates of this curriculum. I just discovered this curriculum a few days ago, and I am thinking of using it next year. Thank you for sharing!
PS. I think you'd really love Wild + Free Co. they released a nature journal recently and I think they are going to do a reprint. They will have a homeschool conference in Nashville in September their community is truly beautiful and inspiring!
Hey! Did you end up using this curriculum? I'm going through your old videos because I have littles ❤. I couldn't find a review of this at the end of your year. Thank you so much for your content!
Sooooooo excited for UA-cam curriculum reveal season! Can't wait to see more! We're in the thick of choosing and buying ours for next year as well. :) Happy homeschooling and thanks for sharing! :)
I love the nature journaling you suggested. My girls and I love science and I try to keep it fun and interesting for them. Our home backs up to a forest so we have fun exploring in it. We've even shared some of it on our channel. Thanks for the suggestions and we're definitely going to try the nature journaling. :)
Planning using this with my littles too- even my first grader who's in school (working on how we can homeschool!) Love all your tips and tricks. I'm scouring youtube for tips on schooling with lots of littles... (6,4,2,five months) How old were kids when you started?
So I have this curriculum and some of TGTB science units that we are going to be doing this year for science. I’m wondering if the nature study along with TGTB units will be too much? Do you think I should just not do the nature study or are they totally different and worth doing both ?
So I purchased this book, thanks for the recommendation :) My question is....when I go to print, did you start with brand new ink cartridges to ensure you wouldn't run out halfway through printing? is there a lot of color? I just want to make sure I'm prepared before I start lol. thank you for your help!!
Eeek! I was so excited when I saw this video pop up! We are doing CM style as well with a little classical mixed in too! I'm kinda new to the CM style. We are doing our first ever Nature journaling study this coming year as well. Always love your videos!
Sarah Groman yes, so I decided to not use sonlight for science because I felt it was just a broad glance over each thing. Too much info and not enough time to slow down and dig into each thing! It isn't bad just wanted a change for us!
I've been close to pulling the trigger on getting SonLight (found your youtube from review searching on that) and have heard lots of good things about it, but also hear people say they disregard certain things in the curriculum and supplement with other stuff, like this Nature book. SO, my question is: When you buy the Sonlight curriculum do you pick and choose the pieces you want or is it a whole package deal? Just seems like it would be a waste of money if you don't use all that they supply and supplement with other stuff.. Are there some things that are better than others in the program? Like is this science program better than SonLights, etc. (I'm a homeschool Dad and I'm starting Kindergarten this fall with my daughter)
M. S. Corley hey! So thankful you found me through your searches! So for sonlight you can either buy the compete grade level package which will include literally everything needed for every subject, or you can purchase just the core. The core would include the history, geography, bible, and read alouds necessary to teach that. Then you are free to purchase whatever science curriculum, math curriculum works for you to finish out their subjects. Hope that helps!
Ah perfect! That's exactly what I need, I already have a math program (Singapore Math), a phonics/reading program, and just want to get core type stuff. I suppose I could have found that out on their website but asking someone who uses it is better imo! Keep making more videos, I've subbed and watched nearly every one of the schooling ones today. Super super helpful!
Also thanks! ;) I feel like I'm the only father out here doing this and caring about homeschool, etc. Everything on the market and in online speech is Mom-centric in its language for both stay-at-home parenting and homeschool teaching. I'm the odd one in the bunch!
I know this was several years ago, but did you really get this printed and bound for only $5?!?! I checked Office Max and their site said $34.00. Help! I have a bunch of curriculum to print and bind this year and I can't pay $35 each time! Any tips you have would be greatly welcomed!
We purchased art notebooks with watercolor grade paper. I think it was worth the price. Our favorite art mediums are watercolor pencils, and watercolor paints. We also love our flower press!
I know you said you went to office max to have the pdf printed and spiral bound but when i go to their website its like .59 a page. So im confused. Can you tell me how you got it all done for 5 bucks? Im sure I am missing something. Love your videos! Thanks!
Laura Beth hello, I printed mine at home also however I couldn't figure out how to print front and back so it's now in a huge ring binder ;) so I can remove the lessions I need.
I am a huge nature lover!! I'm homeschooling 8th, 7th and kindergarten this coming fall. Do you think the older kids are too old for this type of style?? I really like the idea of getting out of the typical Science book. Thank you, great video. I just subscribed :)
Grace and Grit Is there a particular reason you can share? I’m considering the curriculum and I like to hear what has or has not worked well for others!

Stephanie L we basically discovered that when in nature my kids prefer a less structured time right now. Just the ability to discover what they see. We will def try to pick it up in the future
hello again, do you use the "handbook of natural study" I find this part rather.........ummmm. well, I just don't like that part :) wondering how many people use it?
Buy the very best art supplies you can afford. This is what we used Strathmore Visual Journal mixed media or watercolor, Prismacolor pencils, Sakura Pigma Micron pens, graphite art pencils, Winsor & Newton Cotman Water Color Deluxe Sketchers Pocket Box, Creative Mark Mimik Kolinsky Professional Artist Synthetic Sable Short Handled Brushes.
Also, we purchased watercolours, paintbrushes, oil pastels, vintage crayons(better quality at a garage sale!), colored pencils, and primary acrylics. A package of graphite pencils and charcoal sticks completed our collection ; ]
LOVE this & planning to use charlotte mason curriculum next year and on! Thank you!! Also, did you cut your hair? It looks gorgeous and so fun for spring/summer ☺️💞
I'd love to see more (videos) as you collect & bring it into your life! Did you take the downloaded material to an office place on a thumb drive? And then they put plastic and a spiral on it for you? My husband was on board for us to use this for our daughter - and I love how you organized it so! I am such a "hands on" type that I struggle with working with things on a screen - I'm better if it's printed out haha
I'm going to try and incorporate holistic art supplies like beeswax crayons etc so they feel art through what can be made as well. raw materials as much as I can. even beeswax modeling clay and such. and keeping the environment holistic and as true to nature as well. less plastic and man made stuff, more God made materials. I think they are better quality and just another way to incorporate creation.
Lets connect! I am a mommy blogger and LOVE your videos! We are JUST starting homeschooling so I love this! This has been super inspiring for us! @mbgblog on instagram
Everyone is so young! It’s fun going back and watching your old videos.
We love Charolette Mason. That science looks great!
The Rich Life I'm excited about it!!! Endless learning outside!

Joyful Acres great ideas! Thankyou so much for sharing!
Have you ever done a follow up video on ENWC? Did you like it once you got into it?
I did purchase this as well but I'm curious did you purchase any additional resources to go with it? I've seen some people use "The handbook of Nature Study" and "Nature Anatomy" to go with it. Also would love to see or hear what resources you ended up choosing for your journals!

Kylie watson my younger two yes, my older two went to ps from k-2 for my oldest, and k-1 for my older son
PS. I think you'd really love Wild + Free Co. they released a nature journal recently and I think they are going to do a reprint. They will have a homeschool conference in Nashville in September their community is truly beautiful and inspiring!

I love this so much. Thanks for sharing! I may have missed it but did you do a review of this curriculum at the end of the year after you finished it?
Julia P we didn’t end up continuing it. We moved to them just leading what we study in nature!
This science curriculum looks so fun and awesome! I will have to keep it in mind for the future with my little guy!

Sara RaisingSix so fun to be in the same place in our styles! Excited to get started!
Is there any reason your not using sonlight science next year? I'm trying to decide what to do for my 1st grader next year. :)
Sarah Groman yes, so I decided to not use sonlight for science because I felt it was just a broad glance over each thing. Too much info and not enough time to slow down and dig into each thing! It isn't bad just wanted a change for us!
thank you so much for sharing, I never heard of this science before. I like seeing Charlotte inspired materials
