I have 2 Bassets and they are more entertainment then any movie I have ever seen. They are like two old grumpy people that just want cuddles and love. They are 3 and 2 years old and are the life of our house.
Wait till they get up in age, u had better have huge vet fund to pay for all the medical needs in their old age. The Vets will bankrupt you if your not careful.

Costs $1500.00, 2nd Basset, had approximately 15 tumors over her life span. Costs approximately $13,000.00. Love um but that is my experience. My vet said this can happen with Bassets.
The Mrs. and I have had 8 bassets in our married life. Each one was priceless in their own way. Cancer took 3 of them, and letting go is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Hope to someday be attacked by all of them when we meet at the bridge.

Surprised us all one day while we were throwing a ball into a pond for our lab who would jump in, Get it, and then bring it back. The basset was pulling towards the shoreline and we just though she wanted a drink. Nope! She learned to swim by watching our lab. It was actually fully seeing her ears just float ontop of the water on each side of her head.
My Randy is eight ,I`ve had him since he was two months old . I can`t interfere with his tracking , for the nose knows all . He is very sensitiv e and requires a lot of affection . A good buddy for a 74 year old fart like me .
My Porgy is sweet as pie but yet he is a stubborn pup. He has to many ear infections, so we go to the Vet a lot. He is very lovable. And I just love him to bits.❤️🐾
Bassetts are also VERY protective. Mine would defend my kids if there was even a pit coming at them. Also, i can smack my husband on HIS leg, i say owww and HE gets bit. Lol It is soo funny😂😂

I used to take her for acupuncture and it helped. I now have a red and white basset named Ella Marie Louise. She is sweet and very possessive and I'm her person I love her . They are angels in disguise.
My basset has soft fur, unlike most bristled, so he requires more grooming. And the ears require regular cleaning as they are very prone to ear infections. Interesting fact should have been requires alot of grooming.
A Basset a bad swimmer? My Basset, Randy, was an avid windsurfer and spent most of his time sitting on the front of the board fighting with the spray. I used to fall off on many occasions in strong winds while going fast he was always the first up and next to the board for a helping hand up. I think with their fat paddle like feet they make amazing swimmers. He’d go swimming by himself especially when he got hot.
Hi, Molly here. My dad bassett my mum a beagle . i am stubby but i love to swim it require res more work than others but i make it across and sometimes i get stuck in bank and my Human mum must rescue me from the roots.

My girlfriends basset hound Lucy is an idiot sometimes. One time she was chasing a squirrel in the back yard and ripped the skin on her chest on accident so we needed to take her to get stitches but acted completely normal and it wasn’t until we saw blood did we check her because she was acting like nothing happened to her XD
My basset is not a dwarf hitting extreme heights and its all about how you raise them...my dog has no interest in hunting anything except his mom, trust me I have tried... my basset is 100 percent pure bread I beg to differ with this dumb video because my perfect basset and yes I will post a pic, he swims beautifully and can't stand looking at wild life....you are dead wrong and this is almost profiling lol
Yes, they can be challenging. One thing to note is that they do not respond to negative reinforcement (yelling, swatting with a newspaper, etc.) and doing so will only make them fear you but not learn. Bassets respond best if your utilize positive reinforcement and treats (within reason since you do not want them to be fat).
@@ashleysmithey1365 I have owned bassets for many years. They are extremely food motivated. Treats and learning by example are the best training tips. If they go outside with another house broken dog they get the idea real quick that is the way to get good treats. Keep the ears clean to prevent infection and weekly baths with mild soap to keep the hound corn chip smell away. Last tip I can give you is separation anxiety is extreme because they are so loyal and attached to their family. It is so hard just to own one they need a constant companion In my opinion.
