Dogs were wolves once. Wild and wary. Then they realized humans have couches. That's when they became "Mans Best Friend".

that would explain why my dog is so very protective of my family. and that was one of the things that I always wondered is why are dogs so protective of the family but it's not until I read books and watched documentaries that I realized that it's because they still carry the qualities of the wolf. and they don't just see us as family members they see us as members of the pack. wolves are very protective of the pack. That's why Dogs take good care of us (especially if we take good care of them) it's their wolf instinct that kicks in. Especially if they see you as a dominant wolf leader of the pack. And because wolves protect one another and comfort one another. Our dogs do the same thing. They know we will protect them so they protect us. The story of dogs is a very beautiful story. 😍 And that's why I believe that dogs can actually teach us a lot of things about how wolves do things

Traveling the States, I had opportunity to visit The Wolf People. Respects for the rescue and rehab efforts; yet my heart says wild animals should roam freely. It's survival of the fittest, as was meant to be, since the creation of Heavens and Earth. Not that releasing Zoo Animals is on my agenda....but you get what I mean.
On the best friend thing---to me that statement is confusing. The loss of best friend, and attempts at replacing with a variety of pets, never has filled the void.

Huskies are actually pretty specialized domesticated animals. They are bred to pull and run, for hours and hours, and for little else. That is why a Husky kept as a pet will often dig out of their owners yard, run off, and have no idea how to find their way home.
Dogs bred for herding or hunting (i.e. German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Great Pyrenees, Australian Cattle Dogs, etc.) are generally much more intelligent and make better pets.

Yeah, yesterday I witnessed a neighbor's husky just take off and run away in a way I've never seen any dog run away...even my own dog who I've had to chase down the exact same route the husky went.
I thought someone was chasing the husky right behind him, but by the time I saw him run past me, my neighbor was far behind. Only came around later looking for him after looking closer to home. No one else but me was around.
I'm sad to hear he might be lost, because I think everyone was depending on him finding his way home, at least back to the neighborhood. 😔
So annoying because I know they just got a husky because they look pretty and it's a status symbol.
If the husky wasn't so pretty, they wouldn't have gotten it for their tiny home...same with most people who get huskies imo.

I think this guy is a lil confused. You should never let your dog think it's the leader between you and your family because it does what it wants with no obedience which means the dog is now unsafe and needs to be in a dog pound that's why dogs end up in the dog pound cause they think there leaders in the pack of a human family.
There should be a leader for the dogs in the pack and he should be a dog yes I agree but so should the human. The human is the highest ranked leader in the pack and the dog being a leader also but is under the human.

    • @karstentopp
      @karstentopp 2 роки тому

IIf you happen to have multiple dogs, you have a pack. The pack will have it’s own structure, it will have its own Alpha. But the human has to be the Alpha of the Alphas. But a dog pack isn’t just a pack, it’s a family structure.

Thank you. It is a beautiful and well explained documentary. I am a dog and cat lover. But I have some questions...the guy in Sweden with 30 dogs, how do they manage the instinct of procreation? The one in Germany, it is a sanctuary for the wolves? I hope so.
My father was a vet and he teach me to be the leader of the pack and providor, and them as guard.
But we can see in the doc...there's no human leader, It's a relashionship between two species that works.
“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace.”
