As protesters in central Kiev took over the parliament building on Saturday, others headed to President Yanukovych's highly controversial private estate of Mezyhrhrya, just outside the city.
The estate, half the size of Monaco, cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build, much of it coming from embezzlement and corruption, and had long been in the protesters' sights. The average monthly salary for an Ukrainian citizen is around 200 Euros, so their President's opulent lifestyle was a constant slap in the face that could no longer be ignored.
VICE News went along with thousands of curious Ukrainians to take a look and walk around Yanukovych's house, like a kleptocrat's version of Cribs.

Omg lol.... Yanakuvich is watching this like "take you shoes off before you walk in" "don't touch that" "do you know how much this shit is going to cost to repair".... Glad that the ppl of Ukraine get to see how he was living...
Hahahaha
The best part of this story is: the palace isn't picked clean and ransacked by Ukrainians like those of Gaddafi's or Saddam's.
Ukrainians are civilized and educated people. More educated than the average EU person, in fact. Everyone understands the great meaning of this historic victory.
That's because even poor Whites are generally pretty civilized. A lot of Eastern Europe's current backwardness can be blamed on the left-wing Russian socialist imperialists who enslaved Eastern Europeans during the Soviet era.
Why didn’t the military protect the president
its a miracle they didn't destroy that place
facepalm...
Tony Bridge True, what I noticed everytime During the protest/revolution, was after they took a building, they were quick to repair & clean the damages.
Tony Bridge Ukrainians are better educated and religions doesn't rule there whole lives. unfortunately in the middle east they have a dark age right know were religion rules the people. Europe was the same until they took power from the Church.
skaf008 buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuullshiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!
I think people believe it belongs to them, they did the same during Iranian revolution, all of the shah palaces are museums now.tho I really wanna see how khamenei palace looks like, heard he got 100 billion net worth.
"All this money and you couldn't get a comfortable chair" love it.
I think it's amazing they have enough dignity and respect to leave everything in tact without looting. Everyone just acted so peacefully.
Much better intact as a symbol and reminder then paved over for the next oligarch
At least they didn't loot unlike the invading soldiers
An exhibit in the world museum of curruption
that was brilliant no?
You'd be hard pressed to find a house of a country's leader which is not as much or more luxorious than that one.
Very impressive VICE! The BBC couldn't get past the guard and were only showed his Spa in a small building some distance from the main residence. Here there's a full tour and your reporter even sat in his chair - lol.
I sure hope Yanukovych is watching this.
=)
I'm really proud of the Ukrainian people that they have managed to preserve this place and administrate it as a museum amid all the unrest.
And you people should realize that 24 hours before Mezhigorie was open to people 6 TRUCKS and 2 choper's just moved stuff from the Mezhigorie. If he forgot golden plated Ukrainian money and a bread made of gold that weight's more then 2 Kg then you can imagine what stuff did he move in those 6 trucks. You should also check out ex minister's of Ukraine they lived like Kings room's all made with gold Pshonka,Zaharchenko, Tsarev and hundre's of other's member's of the leading party of Ukraine
Great reporting. The news in the USA gives us nothing like this. Keep up the best journalism ever.

The Ukrainians are really going about this whole revolution pretty well, I'm impressed. Most places that have a revolution end up just self destruction and having to rebuild, but the Ukrainian protesters are so organized that they keep places like this from being destroyed.
The Most Funny thing is that this will be a future Versailles like place where tourists will visit. :D Oh the Irony no?
*oh the "ivory" :D
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been through Versailles, and it is a striking symbol of why checks and balances are needed
People should learn from the Ukrain on how to over throw a government an not burn down the hole country and not have mass looting and people killing each other over nothing good job Americans should pay more attention
WTF are you talking about? Americans should pay more attention? LOL
do elaborate. Try not to look too stupid. Cant wait to show you how ignorant you are.
=)
actually at least 100 people were killed
@@kaizersoze ironic
@@annoyingguyoninternet1631 We had a revolution against the greatest empire the world has ever seen actually 😎
lol. That phone is from 1984. Not the movie, the year....
I think I may be in love with the "tour guide"! lol
this kind of issues happen at the most of the countries...thats the sadest thing about it..this is not just a particular phenomenon... and it is time for the citizens to take action..i am talking in general
Fantastic reporting Vice!
Great report but hearing him call that driving range a massive golf course was just odd
the power of revolution.. amazing
99% live in or near poverty. 1% have no problem living off the avails of others by every means of deceit
God fucking dammit Yanukovick.
At least if you had an inkling of good taste this house would have at least could have been made into a state art gallery or something productive.
It's so ugly I'm unsure whether it will be able to pass the exam in order to be a garbage dump.
Nouveau Riche, eh?
They never showed the solid gold toilets and no not gold plated I'm talking about solid gold actual real gold build toilets I think they were 24 karat or they were 18 carats I don't remember too well but this whole situation happened back then and cameras were inside the house that was the first thing they showed solid gold toilets many of them I don't remember too well but they estimated like $50,000 per dollars as soon as they spoke that word of how much the other guy said wait where did he get all the gold to make so many toilets?
vice u r the best!! dont ever ever ever ever ever....ever stop what u r doing, u r the best at it.
Ironically, there's many people around the world who watched this video and laughed at the pitifulness of the place. Btw, what's up with the "dictator" nonsense?
Lol. just like my vacation home.
sweet pad!!
I'd love to see a more thorough followup to this piece so as a careful documentation and assessment of the entire estate could be made to demonstrate just how backwards reality really was for the people of Ukraine. Great piece though.
And you asking us why we hate him.
Why don`t you showed us the new government officials houses?
Gadzooks, that's a German StG44 the guy has at 2:09 !
lol the guard is a funny dude
I wouldn't mind living there

this house is So over the top
The guide-guy is very charming!

And now they become into the hell
The guide alex seemed like a cool dude, hope he doesn't get killed
Holy fuck! I want a house like that!
I realized this reminds me of Soviet art of Bolsheviks, regular people, looking in awe at how the aristocracy lived, the palaces and gleam
These guys speak english very well, no need to give them subtitles.
US: Lets trash the entire Capitol Building and steal valuable stuff and documents and spray paint stuff across the walls
Ukraine: Lets keep everything nice and intact and make a museum out of it.
Many many government's around the world live like this or equivalent while the rest of the citizens live in poverty.
Bring on the "Restart"

That ivory carving was beautiful. Was it illustrating an old Asian myth? And if so does anyone know what the myth was and where it originated?
1:59 Peter griffin
guo..
In Russia they call this "pigs at the trough", they push each other out of the way to get to the food and when they get there they eat as much as possible as fast as possible. This little piggy was there for a long time, you can see just how much he has taken and that's only his house and only one of the houses, imagine the bank accounts. Oh he ran alright but he isn't broke. And now the next piggy is going to take his place and feed, and all the other piggy's that were there with the previous one are still going to be there also feeding and this is why everyone else is poor. Do we need them? Ukraine, US, Russia, what is the difference? DO WE NEED THE PIGS EATING AT OUR TROUGH? You cant escape it any more, you cant deny it, its right here for all of you to see no matter what country you are from. Others are already doing it, so Ill ask the rest of you: should we go piggy hunting?
They know how to breed Oligarchs in that part of the world.
2:09 STG44!!!
Once they unlock the door to the liquor cellar its party time
the Lennon Steinway & Sons piano takes the piss. Give peace a chance
Who else wants to see Putin's place? That'll be an "exhibit in the world museum of curruption"
I would totally chill at the Ukrains primminster Yankovic mansion, it's actually not have bad.
Maidan- Central square of Kiev.
I'm glad they didn't let people loot it. Hopefully it will become a museum.
finally
Keep it up guys. Seriously.
I wonder how that compares to Miley Cyrus's house....
This should all be liquidated and made into new homes for people.
I can't imagine how much shit was stolen
