I realised I can't believe anything any of these guys say! They get along so well- this is truly a dream team- the "Clever Clogs" killed me!! Gem of a show.
I met Ford and Greg at a signing, I got the live dvd and the script for the first series signed. After I spoke to them and shook their hands I nearly fainted lol
Oh, isn't it though?! I'm watching the whole of Still Game for the 4th time now (on bbc iplayer) and when I get to that final episode, I know I am going to sob my heart out. And I will try not to, but it always breaks me. So sad, and poignant, like you said.
The episode where Jack swallowed the ring had me on the floor, when he drank that mixture that Victor gave him & it worked almost instantly had me struggling for breath. Brilliant actors, every single one of them, and even better writers.
I just finished the series in less than a month, new favorite show, hands down! The ending was beautiful and I think they did a lovely job tying it all up! I can't wait to restart it from the beginning soon
I caught Still Game on Netflix over the winter - then watched Chewin' the Fat afterwards. It was really weird for me to realize they weren't actually old-timers, lol. I did know, by the way they could squat down so easily to turn on the third bar, and stuff like that, but couldn't have imagined their faces without the make-up.
I've watched the whole show 4 times.. I'm a scottish blooded Kiwi.. born in NZ with a French name. Discoverd my Scottish roots through DNA testing!!! and the show is bloody hilarious. I tell everyone I can about it.. to test their sense of humour
11 years later, it's fast becoming one of the best comedies ever on earth,, not just best Scottish comedy ever with help from UA-cam reactors such as the eclectic beard and Netflix.
Still Game is right up there with the very best of comedy. It is the equal of such greats as Porridge, Rising Damp, Steptoe and Fawlty Towers. Such a shame they called an end to it. Best to go out at the peak of their game though i suppose.
Greg has a mixed accent. The wiki does state both were born Glasgow but Greg spent his youth (age 12-18) in Montreal. According to the 'Canada: Greg Hemphill & Jeremy Ratchford' video on here, he relates to Canada as to where he is from as a result. No doubt he travels back and forth a lot to see family, which is why they actually have his character Victor having Canadian relations too
It's Jack's family that lives in Canada. Also, note the narrator in the elevator in the episode they visit Canada and go to the CN Tower, it's Greg's brother.
Claudiajadegriol No way ! That would ruin it. It is best to remember them as they were presented in the entire series ie two old widowers . It would ruin it if there was a prequel with their wives .
Reading some comments below about black pple not in the show - do you think they would it make the show any better. ? I think not , so I wouldn’t mess with perfection.
There are very few black people in Scotland. Why do people always ask this question about shows? Not including races isn't actually a problem, if it was set in East London perhaps it would be but having walked through Glasgow on several occasions I can tell you I've probably not seen black people everytime. Usually you see more people of indian / pakistani descent - but not that many black people.
I don't agree with the producers imaginary idea as to why Winston is called Winston. I prefer to imagine his parents named him after Winston Churchill.😊
SusanMiller I agree wi ye . I'm Scottish. ( a Fifer ). Greggs accent as Victor in Still game is natural, true and authentic Glaswegian , whereas I feel his so called " real " accent in real life is fake. Scottish folk just don't talk in that kind of accent in any part of Scotland , regardless of whether they spent a few years in another country or not . I have no idea why he talks in that strange accent. His excuse of living in Canada from 12 to 18 years of age is not an excuse. For example , my Mum was a Scouser and she never lost her broad Liverpudlian accent , even after marrying my Scottish Dad and living here in Scotland for 56 years until she sadly passed away in 2020 ( God rest her soul).
@mituldave Due to the fact that not only is Scotland mostly ethnically white people but the actors were all picked for talent and merit , not their skin colour . So quit with the racist questions.
