I had just finished the lighted sunburst wood panel ceiling in the stairwell when I immediately started working on the doorway into the stairs.
Although it doesn't have a door, it is framed for one and I thought it would be perfect to act as the entry into what has become my wonderland of escape from the world.
These stairs go to my dedicated room for listening to music, reading and watching movies, all completely disconnected from the internet and other modern distractions.
The trim design matches the ceiling I just finished:

While the moulding profile and details are not overly ornate, the trim does have a number of parts.
- The jambs are just 1/2" maple veneer plywood, although solid maple would have been better.
- The casings are made up of three pieces to form the stepped profile, with more of the maple ply as the centre.
- The head is two piece with a crown that has the same chamfered profile as the one I used on the shelves.
- There are a pair of tampered decorative blocks in the corners of the jambs that pick up the tapered sunburst rays in the ceiling and give it a subtle Art Deco feel.
- Solid maple plinth blocks on the entry side of the opening complete the look.

Talking about your self in the third-person is weird af.
Sounds like John might have some improvement plans for John during John's annual review with John. lmfao l loved the video buddy.
4 4 4 4 a disadvantage disadvantage both the seller seller buyer especially and the 444 444 not sure q9
Wow, this John guy is a genius and does beautiful work. You should have him on your channel for a collab. You'd probably learn a thing or two!
John likes what John has done and so do I.
Probably one of my favorite voice overs that you’ve done. Good job.
"He finished cutting the plywood wrong..." that really made me laugh, and made me feel better about the many mistakes I have made over the years. Thank you!
Clever use of wood and voiceover technology
Third person narration is awesome. Not sure how it will weigh on your own mental health but I love it. Lol
Love the 3rd party perspective John. Humility is your greatest strength ;)
Yep, pretty cool. Love the voice-over with humor.
Just wonderful. And unique. Give cudos to John for us 😅
I enjoyed the red green show adventures with Bill type narration. I feel like anybody watching me work would feel the same way.
I love how he doesn't push tools on me like most makers this holiday season. Keep being yourself, John!
No kidding, every single UA-camr I follow this year, 731 being the worst of them.
John can`t push tools. he makes his tools himself; they are one off :-) although. I also appreciate it!
There is absolutely no wood worker on any channel or anyplace else that forces tools on you. They are showing you faster and easier ways to get things done...you make your own decision SKIPPY
Please have a look at the pinned comment for the latest black Friday sales. 🤣
@@daveklein2826 stumpy is always pushing tools
you wanna keep observing that john fellow he looks like he is clued up. love how you spoke about yourself in the third person.
the commentary is epic! project not too shabby either!
Haven't seen trim made that way, very cool, thanks
I like the wedged accent pieces. I enjoyed the dialogue, quite entertaining.
"he's not actually this tall" 😂 excellent voice over this time John!
Another fantastic design idea. Love the humour of speaking about yourself as another person 🤣
You have a good voice for voice over and well detailed.
Well done,
Lee
What a great narrator!
Love it. You'll be applying for a job doing voice over documentaries next. LOL
I’m glad the narrator knows everything John is doing and thinking 😂😂😂
I think John did a pretty good job in the artsy look of it, John. S'nice!
I can hardly tell John from his brother, they sound identical. Nice work guys.
I think your VO guy is angling for a raise...
Love what you did with the voice over in this one.
Definitely digging the third person narration 😁
Yup, looks pretty cool indeed. Neat voice over too.
Nice to see you’ve got yourself a helper. He seemed to know his shit too.
Ha ha John is a funny guy .. and so is the narrator 😂😂
love the voice over. Primal Edge will sometimes refer to himself in the third person as well. LOL
He appears to be quite good at this sort of thing!
I enjoyed the observer narration. That is a beautiful doorway or entrance. You are a visionary architect. I don't care what the narrator says.
Elegant design - brilliant entertainment! Thanks John
This and the recent ceiling project are fantastic
I know this young guy, that says you're his favorite woodworking youtuber, oh and deco designer as well. :) Love your personality and style, don't change sir.
That was both entertaining and informative, thank you 😀
Love the past tense 3rd person narrative! didn't expect that!
This John bloke is pretty good. One day, maybe he'll be as good as the other John - y'know, the one that never makes mistakes and does voice overs for a living. 😄
This turned out fantastic. Well done.
Definitely saving this to my idea list for when my wife and I build our retirement home/compound. Looks cool.
this is John.
John is pretty good in the woodworking craft.
Be like John.
PS
the doorway looks really good. it feels like Japanese influenced design.
Comedic sarcasm you should do stand up John!
Looks awesome love the Greene and Greene style on that
Totally funny 3rd person commentary. Especially the callouts for he is doing it wrong or questioning how good he is.
Great job sir, always a pleasure to watch your work, best regards Richard
looks great John
Best narration yet. Loved it. Thank you.
looks fantastic
Another great video. Love the voice over.
Interesting educational tips can be learned from this video. Thank you for putting such energy into such a video.

He may not know what he's doing, but he managed to make it look really good.
Nice!
I like this style of editing.
Looks unique and awesome John!! Well done...
Looks amazing! Almost looks like Japanese inspired. Final shot with the ceiling looks absolutely breathtaking. Great job!!!

Looks very cool
Beautiful work, John! Nicely done! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That was fun! Turned out great too!
I can't imagine what you're paying this new voiceover guy - I much prefer when you do it yourself!
Stunning 👍
That's a really nice door way. Nice work.
Pretty fancy!
I like when John narrates Johns work.
Really enjoyed this video and the result was very appealing. Two thumbs up for you.
This made my day.
That was fun!
Tell John: that was awsome!
Awesome 👏🏽
Had a smile on my face the whole video - still do.🙂
We are lucky you were there to shoot the video while he was working. Thanks to you both! :)
Very unique! I love the voiceover. 🙃
Looks very cool
Clever video
I just so happen to have an empty doorway This would be a great transition between my dining room and kitchen. Great idea John excellent work keep it up
It does look cool.
Just one more time that he has gave back much more than expected. He is a pretty awesome designer. I wonder who is going to try a steal this presentation style. If the tube just puts this one out there it had got to get him more subs.
I loved the voice over! (The door jam came out pretty nice also)
Excellent voice over on this one :) I really like John from the future ;)
Looks very good, you have so many great ideas
Bravo!
Awesome video Nice work
Are you watching me...? This video is 100% what I need for a project I just started planning! Beautiful timing good sir
Wery Nice John. The archway on the thumbnail reminds me of the flying arches in the original TRON movie. Beautifull
Awesome I bet ur house is beautiful on the inside.. Keep it up brother....
Great video and voice-over.
John says thank you very much!
Brilliant voiceover. Perfectly borderline.
John you've got an awesome eye for Design , keep going. You're House is so modern ,Not Like the Rest of the northamerican Houses, regards from Germany 🇩🇪👍
He did a good job.
The 3rd person is hilarious. Thanks
Really nice project and the voiceover was hilarious... 'jarring camera-work'🤣🤣🤣
Looks like Recognizer from Tron movie, pretty cool.
Haha I loved the commentary on this one, it kept me laughing. Also looking very good and there are a lot of good things to learn with this build.
If it was made out of mysterious, alien, grey metal, it would fit into the Stargate movie/shows ;)
I like how HE designed it to look like a RECOGNIZER from Tron...I never knew HE was a fan. Great looking project...let John know I said so please.
