What is a capo? Info here www.andyguitar....
A ‘capo’ holds down the strings at any fret on your guitar. This allows you to still play the chords you know, but they will now sound higher. This is great as it allows us to many more songs than we could without the capo.

Good to know!
I've just started learning how to play, and I had no idea what a capo was😆
Lindsey's Guitar Vlog same 😂
i genuinely didn’t know, i thought my guitar wasn’t in tune or something 😂
You're a fantastic teacher. Seriously one of my faves :)
Absolutely!
I just recently bought a guitar and I can’t help but try to lead it quickly. U play it so beautifully ❤️
Can't wait for my capo to arrive from eBay, I got tired of using a pencil and a rubber (as you mentioned). Pencil bends after some time so strings start to produce weird sounds. Thanks for this great video :)
Brilliant! Thank you so much Andy!
Ok

I am a keyboardist/pianist and I am learning many guitar stuff as I found out sometimes we don't speak the same language.
Though it is amazing how many guitarist choose not use it and prefer to play in an 'easier' key rather than use a capo.
I was just being taught how to play an acoustic guitar, and I was curious about how to use a capo. This video helped a lot!!!
Nah why would i buy a capo if i can just tie a pencil on my second hand guitar which i play with pick made of old credit card
The struggle lmao

Thank you for the much clearer explanation sir, im just a new guitar learner from Philippines 😊🇵🇭!.
Andy, that's for all the great lessons and videos. Regarding the capo, I am seeing lots and lots of different material out there, rosewood, aluminum, composite, etc. Would you recommend one over the other? Thanks in advance man.
michael johnson I’ve ordered a rosewood. I’d suggest getting one that does NOT have springs. These wear out after a while and you’ll need a new one. Though before you get a capo, I recommend making sure you know that it will fit your fretboard :) and that it doesn’t press too hard, make buzz noises or scratch the neck of the guitar.
Can we also use capo to reduce the action
Thanks Andy.
So with a capo you're using the same chord shapes? Is where the capo placed automatically make that the first fret?
yeah man
Where the capo is placed makes it an open string. The next fret is the first. So if you put the capo on the first fret, the second fret becomes the first fret
@@SMPMS8389 so lets say the tab shows 3 3 1 but at the start said capo on fret 2, so i actually press down 5 5 3?
When you place a capo on 2nd fret, would 3rd fret then be like 1st fret? So like first fret moves one ahead of the capo?
Yup
@@SMPMS8389 ok, thanks
I was about to ask the same question
@@vickyjohnson8465 the answer is yes
Thanks Dear Love From India ☺️♥️
If I put the capo then which fret should I start playing from that's all I am confused about?

Thank you so much for this video I understood this video perfectly
Thanks sir
I am always wondering why young folks like to use capo and now I know that their voices are high up so it makes sense!
Great video!!! What about bar chords. Do those go up in key when using a capo?
Thankyou so much Andy bro you explained important points about capo in detail 🙏🙏☺️💜💜💜
Hi -- not sure you're still tracking comments on this one, but you mentioned that a capo changes the key. Technically, it's just changing the pitch, correct? Key signature is more purely related to the sharps/flats and scales. This just adjusts the pitch to make it easier to accommodate other voice registers or instruments, right? Thanks
Thank you, Andy!
Pascal
Thanks a lot Andy I really needed to know how to use a capo and what it is for ..... 😅😅
So when I put a capo on the 2nd fret for example do the frets reset, I mean is the fret next to the capo the 3rd or the 1st fret then?
Yes you are absolutely right
So If you play a D shape in the normal position put a capo on the 2 nd fret the chord shape stays the same but then you will be playing an E
Thanks Andy
Thank you for this video

What is a mandarin sound?
Similar to transpose feature on Keyboards
Hi, i was playing some songs with a friend of mine lately. The a team from ed sheeran for example. Can i just play the same chord when i put the capo to a higher fret? From 5 to 6 for example if that fits her voice better of should i transpose the chords?
Yes do it, just moving the capo is the easiest and best way, it'll sound great!
Thank''s
Thanks

Hi Andy, I’m a newbie guitar player. I just know a few basic chords. I’m learning Every Rose has it’s Thorn by Poison. I learned that the band has their guitar tuned down a half step for this song. When I do that, the guitar sounds just like Poison’s version. However, it’s way too low for me to sing. The question I have is, will the song be better for me to play a half step down with a capo or normal with a capo or does using a capo make the question irrelevant and should I just play around with it until it fits my voice?
How nice lol
When I put a cappo on, my guitar sounds out of tune, my intonation is fine so I have absolutely no clue why it's happening!!!!!!
good guide for beginners.
Champion!!!!!! Brilliant explanation!!!
Brilliant tool love them
I use that for higher the pitch the better it depends on the song
Hi, how are things going for you this new year.
I have that same guitar... cool
Thank you very much for this
Thnx Andy, your videos are really helpful, I was wondering If there is beginners videos for Nirvana songs....and thnx again for your efforts :)

Capo is used to raised the pitch of guitar

Thank you very much for your info🤩
Should I use one on my electric guitar?

As an American, I appreciate you pointing out in the beginning that WE are the only ones to pronounce it correctly.
That, my friend, has earned you a thumbs up. : )
For some reason, you're always the only ones to do things correctly😜
Well, Englishmen invented the language...
@@ericsvensson4857 Nope. Try again.
It's a hard 'a' sound, from the Italian capotasto. Definitely not an 'ay' sound.
Thank u
Thanks for explaining but ik how much is the capo from the Philippines. It's worth 100 PHP.
so a capo is like the transpose button on the keyboard?
Yes! But it can only transpose up, not down
so which chords are important to learn for sure
@@MrSuntutorial C😂😂
He is very nice and I can understand what he is saying. xx
Does a capo changes the chord LIKE (G to A)
If you put the capo on the 3rd fret and play an E chord you are really playing a G chord. Same fret and A chord is a C chord.
Thanks for the video! But how do we know if we need a flat or a curved trigger capo?
Look at your fret board 😉
What guitar is he using?
Yamaha
What guitar do you use, I want to get into guitar and I like the way your guitar looks and sounds
This is a Yamaha FG700ms, about £170 these days, super common and a great choice 👌

I use a capo to high of my voice.
