    what i want from the delta 3/pro external batteries, is a dual 500w MPPT charger on each external battery with right angled cables, or rear connectiors so they can be placed close to each other
    While 2 external batteries can run most of my house overnight, if i want the external bartteries to be charged during the day, grid power is required
    i'd also love the pro to have 3 battery connectors, with the 3rd one maybe dedicated to the generator if adding a 3rd battery is unreasonable.

Useage will not only be for any possible outages, but it will also be replacing my Jackery 1500 that I use in my square drop trailer when camping. Already own the DeltaMax, two Max Smart batteries, an EF Duel Fuel Generator, and two recently purchased River 2's. Since I am still in the learning mode on power stations and calculating my specific needs and requirements for a grid down scenario, have you thought about making a video on just how to connect up multiple devices including optimal solar panel setup outside running inside to the power station and ultimately the devices I will define as needed?

      Todd, I listened to your review a second time. Great job! I picked up a refurbished Delta 2 for use as an emergency back up furnace for our home here in the hinterlands of Wisconsin. I had a single circuit manual transfer switch installed, but it appeared easy enough. In my town, all electrical work has to be done by a licensed electrician. Because I had an “extra” Battleborn 12 v 100 ah battery that was supposed to be used in my camper-turns out I didn’t really need it-I use it as a DIY portable battery. I have made numerous “pig tails” that allow me to attach it to various components, charge controller, small DC to AC inverter, Victron charger, etc. Case in point, this DIY unit allows me to add 1200 watts (nominally) to my Delta 2. I have been testing this system out for the last few days and when the furnace fan speed goes up or down, modulating the AC draw, the App reports some odd findings, but it soon settles down. Overall, if I didn’t have the generic 12 v extra battery, I think the Delta 2 extra battery is the way it goes. My set up clearly is not as elegant. However, if necessary, I can separately charge my backup battery and Delta, if need be. Of note, because the Battleborn continuously charges the Delta 2 (it delivers 101 watts with an XT60 connector wired to battery terminal rings), the Battleborn would exhaust it’s charge first, and then the Delta 2 would take over. So, I could charge the backup battery during the 8-10 hours remaining on the Delta 2.

      I had to return the refurbished unit for defects I cannot recall and EcoFlow sent me a new one. I purchased another new one and have had no incidents. I love the D2 because it can do double duty when I camp-it’s relatively light weight compared to EcoFlow’s larger units was a critical factor for me. Now, despite having a DIY backup battery, the EcoFlow D2 EB is now down to $550. It will provide up to 1800 watts of power delivery, unlike the DIY battery system I have. However, I could use both backups because of their differing inputs. What is your thought based on the current $550 price point for the EB. Thank You.

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  10 місяців тому +1

      I feel like the EB is good but if the price is close, you get so much more utility out of the D2. I wish their batteries had USB and DC outputs and solar inputs like Bluetti.

    • @jacksherman7445
      @jacksherman7445 10 місяців тому +1

      @@todd.parker I agree and that is why I have two Delta 2s. However, with the EB, no swapping of D2s is required, like in an overnight grid failure. I’m on the fence. I use one D2 for the electric powering of my furnace via a single circuit EZ transfer switch, and the second for 6 circuits hooked up to a Reliance transfer switch. I would likely use my DIY backup for the furnace powering D2 and the EB for the 6 circuit D2 (has two fridges on it).

    Have to agree, as an owner on the Anker 757 Powerhouse. I got mine for discounted launch price, so slightly less than the Delta 2. The portability and expandability of the Delta 2 vs the Anker makes the Delta 2 the hands down winner. The Anker does have 20% more battery capacity for the price, it's main advantage. I suppose that means for a comparable price your fridge/freezer could run for an extra few hours on the Anker.
    I'll see if any Black Friday deals pop up for the Delta 2, fingers crossed!

    Great little unit. Have been using mine, with extra battery, in my camper for the last 16 months. There are two things, though, that make me wish I had not bought it. It is very loud in a small space, and it has insufficient 12-volt output for all those 12 volt items one has in a camper.

    Outstanding review! Luv the comparisons too. Best review & best in class unit. (BUT, for anyone thinking to add the extra batt for 2kw), I think then the Bluetti AC200 MAX for similar total cost, total higher outputs, much higher solar input, wireless charging pads on top, RV outlet all in a smaller unit since you would have all 2 kW in one box.
    I know this is a 1KW review. Just speaking for someone who is considering adding the extra battery module to this unit, makes more sense to go to AC200 max. Thoughts?

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Рік тому +4

      I think that’s fair. If you need 2kw, the AC200MAX would is a very good choice. It’s much larger and heavier so if you have use cases where you need more portability sometimes then the Delta 2 is better.

      Glad the video helped you decide. Unfortunately, 2 Deltas can't chained in the way you're hoping. You could certainly buy a pair of them and swap when one gets low but you might want to get a Delta Max if you need the capacity since it will give you 2kw in one package. It's not LFP but I bet that will change at some point soon-ish. I do wish the batteries were more useful by themselves for sure

    Hello Todd, great review, thank you for that. Would have been great to have a better comparison between the Delta2+Delta smart additional 1kw battery and the delta max. The capacity would be the same with the mentioned config, but the question is: using the two delta2 batteries connected, would this also increase the output on this? The delta max can hold around 2,4kw output, the delta2 only 1,8kw… if I connect the additional battery to the delta2, will this increase his output?
    Which of the two “combinations” would you buy, recommend: Delta2+additional extension battery or delta max? Or wait until a Delta 2 max will be released?
    Thank you very much.

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Рік тому +2

      Good question. If you already have the Delta Max battery, use that but if I was starting from scratch, I'd stick with the D2 battery since it's also LFP. I assume they will upgrade the Max to LFP soon so if you really need more capacity, wait for that. As far as output is concerned, adding extra batteries only increases the runtime, it doesn't make the AC or DC output stronger.

    Glad to come across your review with a comparison against the Anker 757 which I'm returning in favour of the Delta 2 with the add on battery. Your reference to the reduction in fan speed at lower charging has held me off from cancelling the ecoflow order. It will be charged at less than 200 watts on solar everyday. My only concern is I live in the UK where sun limited in winter. I'd love to know now this is lifep04 will it allow the unit to be connected to the panels on xt60 and switch off at dusk when zero wattage being received, and start charging again (without manual intervention) as soon as daybreak feeds it a couple of watts , 10 watts 30 watts and won't block it like the Anker 757 does. (Xt60 needs disconnecting and the display button to be pressed, to kick it off into charging on solar again ) I need to be assured no manual intervention would be required on the ecoflow. But app access intervention would be fine... any thoughts appreciated...

    I have a question. I have the older 1260wh version. I wanted to use it as a ups leaving it plugged in all the time to home 120 outlet. Because of the pass through power the unit uses your home power when plugged in. Sometimes the unit I had plugged into the ecoflow is not drawing any power, when this happens the ecoflow was over charging the battery and getting warm. The battery percent would drop to 95 and the cooling fans would run with the unit getting very warm. Has this issue been addressed with the newer unit?

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Рік тому

      I haven't seen that happen in my tests so I think it's resolved. I believe the older Delta didn't have a UPS feature at all so I can see it not working well in this scenario. It's a big upgrade!

I saw another guy from the UK on UA-cam do it with the deltamax and it used about 15% of the battery - but I’m wondering whether this one could do it with or without the extra battery. What do you think?

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Рік тому +2

      I just looked it up and it seems that running a load on cold uses about 500w and on hot 2000w so there’s a big range based on temp. The inverter can output 1,800 continuous and up to 2,300w for about a minute so I think this would work. Worst case, if you run it for a full hour on hot it would need the extra battery but I’m guessing the power use varies a lot over time so it’s not 2000w continuous.

      Answer is NO. You can only set percentages unfortunately. Have to put a ‘clock switch’ in front to limit charging to 00:00 - 05:00 hours - but then - if it goes to zero % at 21:00 - I have no power until midnight. Room for an improvement in the firmware.
      Had a few AC cut off’s when using XBoost and pulling 2100 W - especially if charging at the same time. Reducing load on my Airfryer - by going from 200 to 190 degrees C lowered consumption to 1900 W - and I was able to complete the cooking (12 minutes). Added a second battery for increased storage

    Delta 2 was my number one option because of the expansion options. But in reality the expansion is useless if you are limited to the 500W charging. They may say 500W but you can't get that. The most you can get is two 220W panels. So with only 440W, if you have two expansion batteries, is completely unrealistic to rely solely on solar to charge. It would take way too long. I am looking at these for a grid down situation and camping. The only way the expansion batteries work, is if you can charge them fast at home. Relying solely on solar won't work for keeping them fully charge each day. That is hugely disappointing.

I say Ecoflow was not very SMART on this execution. Have 2 other EcoFlow Generator units from March of this year, work just fine. Also own Jackery (meh) RockPals, Nature's Generators, none have a unit with just one SINGLE way to charge.

      Very strange. Have you tried charging it via DC (solar or car)? Maybe it’s in an odd state.

      @@anthonythomas6977 gotcha. I thought you were saying the main unit wasn’t going along a charge. I agree that the extra battery should have a DC input and DC output (12v + USB-C) so it can be used independently. Bluetti does that on their bigger batteries and it’s great

The complete arrogance of saying one thing and failing to follow through with a refund and now the total blanking of emails which have been polite. If this is how they behave with customer service, It concerns me that any warranty support I may need on a package I paid nearly £2k for, will be non existent.

    Could someone explain, why it is "impressive" to get 830 Wh out of an 1024 Wh battery capacity? To me it would seem like they are lying about the real content of the battery. Almost a difference of 20% to what they claim.

    • @todd.parker
      @todd.parker  Рік тому +2

      They aren't lying - the actual battery cells are 1,024 but to use them you need to convert that the 48v DC cell pack voltage to 12v or 5V (USB) or 120v AC - all of those have conversion losses (heat) so this test tells us how efficient it is at this job. 20% losses is typical so that's our baseline for judging these. When you put gas into a car, the gas has a specific amount of energy stored but each car will give you different miles per gallon (MPG) because some of that energy is converted into waste heat. Same idea.

      @@todd.parker Wouldn't it be fair then, on a consumer perspective to state the real Watt hours, or store more cells so you get a practical 1 kWh out of it. A normal first time buyer would expect, for instance an appliance that constantly drains an output of 100W to be powered for 10 hours, not 8 hours. Feels like a sale lie to me, like selling a can of beans and just stating the total weight including the can and water, not telling the nett bean weight when drained..
      Thank you for replying to my comment btw.

      @@dino1604 I totally agree that the way these are marketed across all companies leads to disappointment because you lose around 20% off the top of you run the battery down in 5 hours. If you’re running smaller loads for longer, losses actually increase because there is idle power draw. It’s a bit nuanced to explain to a consumer but it makes it confusing overall.

      @@todd.parker To touch on the smaller loads for longer aspect:
      I saw a video testing the EPS on the new delta 2, and I saw that it was pulling in 50w while outputting 40 W. The 10W difference for the invertor/unit itself, I found very large. It would be kind of neglectable if you would use powertools and run the whole battery in like 2 hours or so (just losing 20 watts of the total of the potential 1024 to just the unit itself) but I find it a shame if you would have a low powerdraw situation of 50 watts with the unit using 10 watts (at 80watts even more because the fans kick in), and thus being a relative 20% of your consumption and thereby losing your potential of drawing 50watts for 20 hours and now the realistic picture being 50+10 for 16ish hours. Comes close to your tested 83%.
