Dragon only does something if it facilitates future doings of nothing. Even saving Luffy is a clever gambit to continue ignoring Luffy.
I have serious questions about FT's "freeing of the slaves" by himself... If he was released he escaped somehow, who's to say Dragon didn't free him on the sly?
We just see what happened to Garp when he tried to save Koby when there wasn't even Black Beard was on island, he still got captured. Dragon could do that but his revolution would end.

I think Dragon suffers from the same problem post timeskip Sakazuki does. Being stuck at the forefront of an organisation and having to stay in the command position instead of being able to act independently because he’s not an individual he’s the figurehead of a massive organisation and if he’s not there to run things and the commanders are off doing their jobs, who runs the Revolutionary Army while he’s not around.
at least sakazuki got to flex a little against kuma
Doesn't sengoku suffers the same thing aswell? I might be wrong tho
@@ghiffaribara2949 i think Sengoku just dont like the job but he doesnt trust anyone else to do it the way he wants it when he got the job
as seen post timeskip he's basically acting like Garp, doing what he want when he want, and he's mostly just chilling in the marine HQ basically mentoring future generation like Garp and got out with vice admiral he likes to the place he's interested in from time to time as seen at the end of Dressrosa arc
so not quite the same,he just want to strengthen the marine as a whole because he know there will always be pirate no matter how many you kill, so he want to make sure there's enough good powerful marine exiting to handle them at all time
Maybe Dragon is called "the Worlds worst criminal" because he doesn't actually do any crime.

If an organization like this would be mainly driven by impulse it would fail. For sure it will also need its symbols, the shiny stars, and heroes but they are often more mascots than changing the fait of history in the long term.
It’s not dragon’s time. As the leader of the revolutionaries he has to focus on other things.

I understand how not everyone is okay with Dragon's actions. But you need to learn that he is a very rational person who knows that losing sight of the end goal would only end badly. It's one of the main reasons he is on top of the Government's wanted list.
Yup, because he knows Government and others will use his attachments against him if he shows any. Thats why it looks like he is doing nothing but doing nothing sometimes is more difficult than doing anything. Dragon told Kuma his son Luffy might get him into trouble so don't ask him about it.

I think what some people tend to forget is dragon is the Head of the revolutionary army, hes has to do more than just fight he need to locate resources, such as weapons food ammunition, communications. Hes like playing a game of chess against the world government, a wrong move means people die islands are retaken by the government. Also if he does fight and gets captured or dies that could be the end of the revolutionary army, like now sabo could probably take over if that happens but it was only recently where that could’ve been an Option.
What’s he supposed to do? He’s the most wanted man on the planet and he’s against immeasurable odds. He can’t be reckless like the world govt and needs to be strategic. He’s the leader for a reason.
I really feel like he’s just sakazuki but for the revolutionary army. He’s organizing an entire revolution. The sad thing about revolution that has been so romanticized by Hollywood is that by and large if you’re leading it at all successfully you’re never going to fighting on the front lines. He’s probably been pulling all the strings and once we get a huge lore drop that will change everything
What if Dragon is just like King from One Punch Man? I can’t decide if that would be disappointing or hilarious.
I’ve started to believe that Oda regrets adding the revolutionary army, or at least adding them as early as he did. Every other aspect of the series is given so much depth and love, and even characters/storylines that were new additions/added early like Supernova and Amazon Lily are checked in on and given quite a lot of depth. Yet the Rev Army is given nothing and skipped over every chance he can get
I don't know about regrets, but I agree that Oda has no idea what to do with Dragon.
There may have been another plan for Dragon early in the series that has since been shelved due to how long One Piece has gotten. But all of the 'assistance from the shadows' or 'the Navy can't fully go after Luffy because Dragon's army is doing shit to keep them from getting in the way' moments seem to be going to Shanks instead. So what else is there for him to do?
@@Weaponator18 That’s a good theory on what his original role should have been. Especially because Ace was supposed to be Luffy’s brother so him saving Luffy from the war instead of Shanks would fit. I think my judgement of regret comes from the Revolutionary Army as a whole getting no love in the story. We never check on them, they never do anything in the background, they don’t interact with any other groups, etc. It might be a harsh judgement, but my view could easily change once we see Dragon’s end role in the story
@@nerdcorner2680 no ur judgement is rigt. one of oda assistant stated in an interview that oda tends to want to do too much and ends up writing in circles like hes lost to which he helps him on that part. im convinced at this point he doesnt know what to do with dragon and is setting himself up to fail to meet the hype and expectations. i mean what role can dragon now have in luffy life this far into the story when luffy is already this powerful??why do so many other ide characters especoally kuma and bonny have such a deep backstory basicly a top 3 and not dragon luffy father??how is he even gonna top that??

Luffy would never have gotten into grand line without dragon he was saved by dragon from smoker who was a logia luffy could not deal with without haki.
kuma as a spy for rev army as a warlord saved straw hats never gotten into new world without him.
impel down luffy would have died in there without iva who is member for rev army not even staff working for impel down could save luffy because he took to many types of poisons.
Dressrosa Sabo who was saved by dragon and working for rev army saved luffy when he was low on haki and would have gotten killed and fruit stolen straws hats all would have been killed if luffy got taken out there.
@@basillah7650 Compare Dragon and the Revolutionary Army to Alabasta, Skypeia, Water 7, Enies Lobby, etc. every single other location/group of characters in the story recieves so much world building and love. Water 7 is always sinking into the ocean so they are full of shipbuilders and we learn about festivals they have there, Enis Lobby deems every criminal guilty, etc. For other factions we know more about how the slave trade, the back market, and the news all works and functions compared to Rev Army. Baltigo is just a rock, the Rev Army has no theme between the characters (Sabo and the 4 Commanders have a steam punk aestetic but Dragon and Iva lack this and it goes no deeper), and Dragon doesn’t have any interesting characteristics other than he loves Luffy but can’t do anything about it due to his job (which was only introduced a few chapters ago)
I would argue that Dragon has done more than anyone. His army freed 8 different nations plus Kuma from marijois and discovered that they're was a king of the world. None of that would've happened without Dragon. His feats are just mainly offscreen. I think his devil fruit has something to do with fate and he knows he can only make moves at specific times. That would be cool anyway and he's saving it for some big moment.
Between doing something and doing nothing, I choose to do nothing. However, I will do something if it helps someone else do nothing. I'd would work all day if nothing got done.
If people are upset at dragon for not doing anything then they don't understand what it's like to lead a huge corporation. He is literally the complete opposite of the government, so he can't just go out and do what he wants to do because he has to think very strategically. Dragon cannot do the same things that Luffy would do.
I'm still dead set that Dragon went to Amazon Lilly and made it with with the previous queen. . . the timelines still add up.
Liam as a leader we know they delegate, and seldom actually do "anything," because doing nothing is something if you have someone else do it for you. Could you do a similar video on Akainu and I suspect the count would be similar.
Post-timeskip Akainu's been stuck behind a desk (where it's clear he wants to be more active and gets frustrated having to delegate everything), but he has definite feats to his name before that point. It's clear that Dragon has been active in the past, and has a plan we will see eventually, but when he's onscreen it's mostly him reacting to things other people do. And he picks his fights very carefully, which doesn't help his case--rescuing Ginny would've been a bad move strategically, but in a story where characters will move heaven and earth to save their friends it doesn't make him look good.
"Dragon does nothing" is a meme, but it does point to a potentially shaky spot in One Piece's storytelling. Teasing powerful characters through reputation and rare appearances is effective, but it gets less effective the more they appear without doing something to back up the hype. People used to make the same joke about Shanks, until we got to see him actually flex a little.

After seeing this, it makes me wonder how much we see Sengoku or Akainu do anything compared to not. Since the three of them hold similar job in my mind, although on different sides.
I think Dragon was referring to the reverie when he was talking about the executives gathering. I also think that for two years they were making connections to bypass the said increased defenses of the holy land. My reason for thinking this is how Sabo the number 2 of the revolutionary was able to sneak inside as well as several commanders. But that is more the revolutionary army as a whole and not dragon himself. Though I like to hold out hope that dragon has something important that he stole from the world government so he is careful not to be caught.

Not to diminish the accomplishments of Fisher Tiger but he did not climb the Red Line. The public story was that he climbed it because it was not common knowledge that he was a slave. He escaped from the Holy Land and saved fellow slaves along the way. Additionally, it is much easier to cause chaos from within than invade.
If Dragon became the most wanted man by doing nothing, imagine how the WG would react if he did something.
Could Oda spin it so that Dragon and friends did attack Mary Geoise during the Paramount War but the 5 Elder Stars were able to prevent any news of the attack from leaking? So that the only people who know would be the World Nobles, CP-0, Dragon and maybe Sengoku? Or is that too big a retcon?
I'm curious how Oda will represent Dragon's backstory.

Ok I must step in and defend the Dragon-man on the "not telling Kuma about Vegapunk" issue. My idea is that at the point Kuma left to look for the cure, Dragon wasn't sure if he could trust Vegapunk or not because he never expressed any allegience to either the Revolutionnaries nor the Governement, but as far as Dragon knows he's working for the Governement so he's one step closer to them.
But the most important point is Dragon knows Vegapunk and that he's willing to do anything, ANYTHING, for science. Plus his only funding is, once again, the governement, so Dragon probably didn't trust Vegapunk to not turn this into some kind of twisted experiment, even more if the Governement was tied to it... aaand guess what...
So I don't think Dragon stood there doing nothing for 4 years while Kuma was desperatly looking around for a cure, I think he just made a very logical decision to use Vegapunk only as a last resort
The thing about Dragon defenders is that they claim he is s cool-headed master strategist whose inaction is part of his grand plan, but there has never been any dialogue to indicate that he is particularly intelligent or insightful. I mean maybe he's the Blackbeard of strategy and all his intelligence is off-panel.
He's the leader of a revolution, freeing countless nations and building his army to free EVERYONE who've been oppressed by the World Government permanently.
I understand that people are frustrated by him not doing anything with the Ginny incident, but look at it from this point of view:
1) The year before her capture, Fisher Tiger freed the slaves that were there, so they probably increased the security of Mary Joa.
2) The revolutionary army was still in its infancy. Therefore, they didn't have enough manpower, and the 4 revolutionary commanders were still young/weren't recruited yet, so those stealth abilities aren't available.
3) The troops were already stretched out fighting in different countries, and those wars would occur for years sometimes.
4) Funding was low at the time, so they couldn't just waste it saving 1 person. How would that reflect on Dragon? That would seem like all those other revolutionaries' lives that were probably kidnapped/killed weren't as valuable as Ginny's.
5) The timing, when this news came, they were participating in wars so they had their hands full plus by the time the news came to Dragon's desk, the ship might've been too far to catch/already arrived in Mary Joa.
My wildest theory is that dragon takes after garps nice man side, hes also a vegetarian.
Damn bro it's almost as like he planned for the revery
They didn't do shit when Ginny got captured, which was pretty depressing. Because they knew what was happening to Ginny.
But that's the thing about Revolutionary army, they need to work strategically, since if they pull a WhiteBeard that would mean their forces are destroyed.
So anyone who gets captured is a person they abandon, it's like spies, when they get captured, either you kill yourself and shut your mouth or go through the torture and still say nothing.
Bascially he has a ninja army, and can't be attached to his subordinates.
The idea of Dragon being a Victorious fan and watching it instead of going to Marineford is so amusing to me for some reason
This video feels really unfair towards Dragon. You keep giving him a “do nothing” for things that he did do they just weren’t physical power feats. Nobodies out there actually liberating countries and inspiring others to do the same like Dragon (and now Sabo after the whole flame emperor thing). In a fictional world where the ultimate evil is the world government, the argument could be made that Dragon being the only one taking territory from them directly is doing the most by actually confronting the main evil even if it’s in managed, calculated ways that minimize his losses because his resources aren’t near infinite like the WG’s. This slander is out of hand.
So Dragon is the very definition of 'standing there menacingly'
I think alot of his actions are coming from his devil fruit.
He obv. got the Mythical zoan fruit "Amaru" which is a creature that emerges from the depths, and it was said to be the harbringer of rain, revolutions and winds of change.
the Marine refered to him as the "serpent dragon" so yea its somewhat confirmed imo
Amarus are moraly conflicted (him not knowing if he should do something or not) bec if an amaru fights, its gonna be super destructive (weather/earthquakes etc) and i think thats why dragon is not fighting himself. hes too destructive and thats not what he wanna do.
Imagine him just "visiting" smoker and nearly blowing away a whole city with his wind/weather change, so what would happen if he fights serious against someone on his lvl?
And i think this is what most ppl are missing out on, hes not Lazy or anything like that, he has to be carefull.
There is even more you can look it up and i think dragon is gonna strike once and it will be a big event.
I'm still trying to figure out how you become the head of a massive criminal revolutionary army, and the most wanted man in the world when (from what we see) he does absolutely nothing.
Kinda makes me wonder if the position and status just sort of fell into his lap while he was busy doing nothing. Right time right place sorta thing lol
Are you caught up in the manga? We saw Dragon in the frontline when the RA was just starting. Not much weapons and supply but he's still there helped liberate kingdoms, now that the Organization is huge and he's acting like the Fleet Admiral we gonna trash him? Generals were once privates who were in the frontline risking their own lives. Now, Dragon have to make sure that the people they liberated won't fall back to the enemies and accomplish their goal.
Maybe dragon has a wind fruit that also has some ability called "winds of fate" or something, and he can see what happens in the future based on certain actions. So it somehow told him that kuma needed to visit those islands "for the sake of the future"
I'm sure once we get Dragon's backstory it'll be him doing so many things
in his defence i think he's just like Akainu ... like before Akainu was Sengoku ... and he ... just gives orders ... same goes for Akainu he's now fleet admiral but his role is just sit around the desk and do paper work ... and dont get me started on Neptune he has a whole kingdom to look after and being a king is hard work you have to sit on a throne and give out orders imagine that .... what do these 3 have in common its simple they went from an active position to a passive one ... (thats logistics for you and leaders dont actively do stuff they just give out orders people carry them out and so on )...you get the ideea and this goes into the world building tier list :)
he didn't want Kuma to know about Vegapunk cuz he'll lose an important asset to the RA. But within 4 years of insistance, Dragon caved
...he lost an important asset when he let Kuma leave by NOT telling him about Vegapunk.
Truth is that the author had a lot of plot points and wanted Dragon to be a cool secret reveal, but didnt have a good place for him to make an awesome moves yet. Sometimes the story needs to take a back seat to the plot (wait for their turn to be in front of the camera). Hearing about things that are awesome but have nothing to do with the main characters would really make the other people the "main" characters.
Dragon being a Victorious fan needs to become canon.
To be fair for the Dragon letting Kuma rampage thing, even if he did order some one or many someones to stop him. Who on earth could possibly do that? Kuma is one of the strongest fighters in OP and has yet to loose a single fight. So its reasonable to assume that Dragon figured trying to stop Kuma would cause more collateral damage especially to his own forces.
imagine he has some sort of power that prevents him from acting or else he won't be able to defend luffy or something
I will continue to hold all my Dragon stocks despite all the slander. Oda always makes the characters that are seen the least and mysterious the strongest like Shanks, Mihawk, Imu, and Dragon therefore my cope will never die😫
11:39 dude looks like franky crossed with kuzan
The reason why Dragon does nothing is because he and Luffy both have ADHD, but Luffy bas the hyperactive part and Dragon has the part that makes you procrastinate.
Oda has a really delicate situation with Dragon. Either he can leave him in the background where the fans can assume and connect dots that allude to what he is or isnt, or he can bring him onto the stage and at the level the current players are on, i dont see Dragon being able to do any good. If oda was going to do anything big with the middle Monke it would have had to have been in Wano. Maybe im wrong and Dragon is some beast of a DF user and tactition that can hang with the highest level entities in the world, but i dont see it.
