This is super helpful for the research I'm doing for one of my stories. A character isn't much without the context of their youth, and this helps a lot. The immense amount of detail is so incredibly helpful, and I'm grateful that you're systematically preserving this for posterity. Cheers.
I’m American but it looks like the Irish part of my family is from here, including my last name. I’d like to go there one day. Thanks for the information.
It’s great so many American people are proud of their Irish roots. Donegal is probably the nicest county in Ireland. West and East Donegal are different with north-east Donegal having some of the best farmland in Europe and also more connected to Derry than to the rest of Ireland. You should definitely come if you can.

Thank you for your very well researched videos. Very informative and comprehensive. I’m curious about your accent. Are you Irish who has lived abroad for a long time or from the diaspora who has moved to Ireland from abroad?

I was an English visitor a few years ago so found this very informative but l have a couple of questions l hope someone can answer. First, the climate. I was told depressions generally track over Donegal and then onto Scotland. When the weather here is fine, it’s usually worse over the rest of the British isles. Is this true? Second is more cultural and controversial. I love going to Ireland, know my history and try to be respectful. I felt some, not exactly hostility but let us say a frisson in Donegal which l have not experienced elsewhere in Ireland. i can understand why people might feel hostile but l was not sure if it was me being over sensitive. There were times in pubs where l felt the sound of an English accent was an intrusion into something. Would like to hear some Irish views on this.
Derry was the main market town and port for Donegal ,partitioning deprived both Donegal and Derry of their status which still exists today neglected by both governments, but that may be about to change for the better
Donegal is one of my favourite counties and is one I'd certainly recommend you visit if you get the chance. Don't let it be the forgotten county. Sorry if there's any mispronunciations in this video. Hopefully you won't have to wait as long for the next video this time.

Fun Fact: Donegal is the northernmost County in Ireland but it is actually in "the South" which is how some people in Ireland refer to the Republic of Ireland.
Great video! And yep, I can agree that it is VERY annoying when Donegal Irish (we sometimes call it Donegalese because it sounds so different) is used in an Irish listening comprehension!
We aint cut off from the rest of the republic. We are connected via Bundoran. Its called the forgotten county because we are left to it from the government. Only county in Ireland the EU has classed as developing.

Or as some of the Donegal locals called it when we were there "Smellybegs", due to the fish factory in the centre of town.
