The big dune is called Hell. We used to race up and down it all day as kids. There were 2 big dunes 'Heaven & Hell' but they had to clear one when building the airport runway. Been going to Carrickfinn for over 40yrs now. Home from home. Beautiful stretch of coastline.
I now wake up at 5:00 a.m. every day to go for a jog, even though I wasn't a morning person at first. I've managed to change my habits for the better. Watching your videos about Ireland has made me fall in love with its beautiful scenery and rich culture...I'm Preparing for my IELTS exam, and if I get the chance, I'll definitely make my dream of moving there.
I would not have missed the chance to peer through/over the tower crenels to give my Monty Python impression of the French Taunter, "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" , etc.. 😀
Great video and weather Stephen. If you get a cooler box, I recommend a proper refrigerated one with a compressor as they’re much more efficient and consume about half the power once down to temperature compared to the non-compressor type. I use an 18L Alpicool one with my DIY 1,400wh power station, it can run for 5 days at 2-4 degrees without any additional power top ups.
@@StephenJReid I wouldn't call it loads, its just right for 1 person for a few days to a week, you're welcome to try mine, i'll probably not be using it again until Spring
Hi Stephen. Lovely weather and a beautiful place by the sea. You were actually lucky, it is usually difficult to get parked there at all. Masterchef in a van😅
Yeah I got lucky, literally the last space. Several vans coming after couldn’t get a spot. Looked like quite a few vans just pitch up for quite a few days. Figure a local landowner could make a pound or two with a simple site.
I live in the area of Donegal that you visited. You parked up at "Boat Bay" near Donegal airport, it's normally crammed with vans and touring caravans in summer. I'm surprised that you can pitch up there because in Scotland you would be moved on. I also know the location of your first camp spot and you mentioned that you would liked to have used your paddle board, but no swimming, fishing or boating is allowed in that stretch of water. If you had taken the road to the left you would have ended back up at Glenveagh and the St. Columba monument and the place of his birth. ☘👍
I was surprised that quite a few vans and caravans looked like they had been there for a while. I kinda feel on principle that you shouldn’t park somewhere free for more than 1-2nights. Especially if it’s popular. You sure about that first location? I’ve seen paddleboarders, kayaks and boats on it on several occasions. There’s even a bit dug out for boats. Looked like groups out with an activity centre.
It does have a slip way further along, but I'm sure it's for official use only. There is a sign stating "No fishing, swimming or boats", but like most places in Ireland nobody ever challenges you. The boat bay location gets over use in my opinion, apparently folks come from other counties and the North, leave their touring caravan there all summer and rock up by car at the weekend, then take the caravan away in Autumn.
Is there actually Day 1? I’m unable to find it 🙈 I’m not a morning person either until my first coffee I’m like you…I got recommended a book called ‘5am club’ recently so about to read it and see if something changes 😂
glenveagh is beutiful but it needs a reintroduction plan.. imagine the calls of the eurasion cranes, howling of the wolves... It would really be magical. We need more public platforming such as yourself to Talk about this and get the word round. Yellowstone park reintroduced plan is a perfect example of this introducing wolves vastly improves the ecosystem of a national park positively.. let's do it!!!
Wolves were reintroduced in the Netherlands without any public consultation. They are now responsible for savaging a significant number of sheep and have taken to attacking humans. Not surprisingly there is now growing unease among the general public and the calls to euthanise them are starting to grow louder. There's a hell of a lot more space for them in Yellowstone and no interaction with farm animals. Under no circumstances should we reintroduce them in Ireland.
We need a standing ovation for that toastie sammich!! 👏👏👏👏
Stephen, you are obviously a toastie wizard!! 🤤🥪👍
I am the van toastie king 😂
Yes to the back of the spoon. The amount of funny looks I get for doing that but it’s the way.
We are starting the revolution!
Beautiful place, I love exploring the little islands like Owey & Gola
Haven’t ventured out off shore yet….

Ahhhh brilliant! Love these kinds of insights. Was my first time on that bit of coast, it’s stunning. I’ll definitely be back

Thanks Alan
I’ve seen many counties but Donegal is one of my favourites 🤩
The statue face 😂😂
Beautiful place!
Absolutely love Donegal, been to many of the places in this video series and can’t want to get back there in my van and tent soon!
I’m planning more videos there this year. 🙂

Exactly what I’ve been looking at!
Is the 18 loads of space? I don’t want one bigger than I need

Are the caravans and tents on the dunes allowed over there? Lovely area 👍
Seem to be in certain areas apparently a popular spot.
That toastie was next level and im vegan 😂😂 love your content 😊 fantastic views and that swim looked lush. Giving me some good ideas for next year.
Haha thanks! Could probably modify it and make a vegan version. yeah brilliant location, I'll hopefully go back next year.
I subscribed just for the toastie making

Was there as few people around?

Hi Stephen, has the day 1 video disappeared?
It’s here: Errigal, Ireland’s Most Beautiful Mountain - Van Camping Ireland, Day 1

I learn my lesson with no drones at the park being allowed and know every sport your visit on this video
Did you request to use the drone and get turned down at Glenveagh, Stephen?
There are signs saying no drones are allowed. Just assumed that if I asked the answer would be no.
Yes you just require a permit. Hadn’t seen signs before
