@@jbutsch2301 Well that couldn't be further from the truth actually since being accurate is very important. But that's probably the most overused joke of all time so can't blame you for hopping on the bandwagon with it!
I played high school football in Spokane, WA and college football in Los Angeles, CA. The biggest "Woahs" I got from my teammates had to do with the stories about playing in up to a foot of snow. To play in the snow was by far one of my favorite experiences; however, playing in the bitter cold is an entirely different beast...the stinging and pain is unbelievable.
Imo, this is why the wild card game in Buffalo shouldn't have been postponed by one day. The Bills 31-17 win over the Steelers was unremarkable and will be quickly forgotten in time. But if that same game unfolded in the middle of a blizzard as originally scheduled, it would have been remembered for generations based primarily off of the weather. It's why other routine games become immortalized because of extreme snow, such as Packers/Bucs in 1985, Eagles/Lions in 2011, and Bills/Colts in 2017.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, you have for a long time been producing high quality videos, but for the last 2-3 months you have somehow entered a new level! Keep up the great work, bringing joy to my day
Man KTO, I've been watching you for 6+ years easily. Most youtubers and other content creators unlike wine, get worse with age. But you, you're just getting warmed up. Editing is phenomenal and so are the topics lately. Keep it up man!
That 2013 Lions @ Eagles game was the first crazy weather game I ever watched. Needless to say, it kickstarted my love for football at 8 years old. Finally, that image of Calvin Johnson's helmet being covered in snow always reminds me how fun the snow is.
I went to school in Philadelphia at the time that game happened. I remember it starting off light that morning, and by kickoff, you couldn’t even see where the curb ended and Broad St. began. Talk about great visuals.
I'm surprised that KTO didn't talk about how the dolphins would have never been 1972 super bowl champions if the AFC championship against the steelers in their home game would have ended their perfect season if the weather was bad, but thanking God that the dolphins won the AFC championship that year because the weather calm, and the dolphins would go undefeated in 1972.
You can see the weather advantage in Tampa a lot. When teams come down to us to play USF or the Bucs they usually struggle in August/September because it is hot as hell and extremely humid due to it being the peak of summer for us. USF looks super fast because they are just conditioned more for the heat, the NFL usually highlights the surface temp of the field when they cover bucs games.
For me as a viewer weather games are just the best. Heavy rain, strong winds, lots of snow... It's fascinating every time and makes the games more fun to watch in my opinion. Also, KTO just makes one of the best NFL related videos on UA-cam. You can feel the effort that he puts into every single one of his videos. Quality definitely stands over quantity here!
As a former DB, I *hated* playing in the rain/snow. The runner has a MASSIVE edge over the defender since the runner knows what they want to do, and it's harder to react to that as a defender when you don't have full traction.
As someone who has a M.S. in Meteorology, I love the research that went into this video. I myself have looked up most of this in the past and always love watching games (football and other sports really) when the wind is whipping, blizzard conditions, frigid temperatures, etc. Weather and climate have a bigger influence on everyday life, sports, etc. than most think.
Phil Dawson also had a specific flag placed in one end of the Browns stadium for him to look at whenever he was kicking field goals, somewhere in the corner near an open space. He knew that particular one was blowing the wind in the direction he'd be trying to battle out on the field because none of the other ones went the same way along the lake.
To be fair, (I'm a lifelong Packers fan) I remember that Falcons playoff game when they gave us our first ever home loss. That was only our 13th or 14th playoff game we've ever had at home. People forget we were miserable in the 70's and 80's.
What a video KTO...You are one of the most creative and consistent youtubers not just in the nfl but in the sports world in generl.... keep up the good work man and god bless
The wind is real! I moved to Canada and I have been in -40 without the wind and you don’t even notice it. It’s chill! It’s the MOMENT there’s wind it becomes unbearable and cuts through you. The worst I’ve ever felt the cold was playing in -2 C in Ireland on a windy day on a wet field. That shit just murdered me for two days. Oddly I think the rain would be a weird advantage for a hypothetical London team in the NFL. England gets way more rain than most of America, so a team like the dolphins would be at a real disadvantage
London gets 23 inches of rain per year. It rains more in New York City , they get about 46 inches. I would fair to wager it rains more in majority of American cities.
Agreed. I went skiing on a still -35° day and it honestly wasn’t any worse than a -5° day. If you dress well for non-windy cold days, it’s very manageable
I really enjoyed rainy soccer games growing up! I remember one day where they canceled games (can't remember if it was regular or tournament) because of too much mud due to heavy rain right before they started, and I was so bumbed out
There’s something about seeing men overcome the most indomitable force there is(mother nature) that makes the working man get inspired. People will always respect hard work. The men who work rain or shine. That’s why you see the crowd join the fun and take their shirts off. I’m glad most of the afc still honors the spirit of football outside. You get the true “my city is tougher than your city” feeling that keeps sports alive. Especially in the afc north.
I think the other thing people like about weather games is just the spectacle of them. It's so much fun seeing players running around in the Snow or even slipping and sliding through the rain because most football games, nevermind most sports games in general, don't get that experience. This leads to the most memorable games in football, and sometimes even some of the most historic moments in sports at the same time. The Tuck Rule game is a very well known moment, but I feel like the fact that it was happening in the middle of a snowstorm up in Massachusetts is what gave it the setting of its legendary status. Or look at that 2017 Colts-Bills game that helped Buffalo eventually end their playoff drought. Heck, arguably one of the most well known games in NFL history is named after one of the weather conditions: The 1988 NFC Divisional Round game in Chicago, better known as The Fog Bowl. It helps to add a storyline to the games, and is one of the few things the NFL can't control, no matter what they do.
Playing in the right type of snow matters. I played a game in the Bills stadium in which the snow was really hard, so it would get stuck to the bottom of our cleats and make it hard to walk and turned them into ice skates. As an offensive lineman picking up a blitzing LB who just straight bullrushed into me ended with me on my butt a few times because I had no traction. Traction is key to good blocking and hard snow can ruin that. But fresh soft snow is amazing because it doesn't stick to you and is nice to land on and is just an amazing atmosphere to be playing in. But even with hard snow it was kind if breath taking being in an NFL stadium with snow falling was surreal. It's a precious memory even though we got dropped on our head
The 2008 Winter Classic at Ralph Wilson Stadium is still one of the coolest games I’ve ever watched. It snowed the entire time. That’s how the game should be played; that’s how every Canadian grew up playing it…oh, btw, that was an NHL game. One of the best spectacles I’ve seen in sports
Banger of a video as always by KTO, I work at a radio nation in Cleveland (WTAM 1100 AM) and I’m a part of a segment where we pick games against the spread, definitely using this info and giving you credit for making conference championship Sunday picks!
I’ve always wanted to attend snow games. I’ve been to a couple games where it had pouring rain and temps in the 30s, one of which (Cowboys Pats 2019) where winds were up to 60mph. The other was a meaningless TAMU game vs UMASS in 2022
I hated playing football at the end of November and beginning of December 😂. I played DB so trying to tackle hurt a lottt and the ground would get rock hard. Then I would run indoor track after the football season and all of our practice was outside 🙃. It was rare for us to run inside our high school unless the weather was reallyyyyy bad outside 😂 🫠
Part of me wants to believe that my dolphins would’ve beat Kansas at home without the cold/snow, but the majority of me can’t ignore that it was the chiefs lmao. In HS my senior year, we played a football game in a Blizzard, at the time, it sucked…but looking back it was amazing, that’s when you really understand who’s playing for themselves and who’s playing for the team, it’s easy to spot the difference
The Lions vs Eagles blizzard bowl will always be my favorite. Being in the Philly area I’ll always remember how quickly and how high the snow piled up against my sliding glass door. To imagine playing football in that kind of crazy snowfall just sounds like a once in a lifetime experience.
The most dangerous time to drive in the rain is when it first starts to fall because all the dust and oils lift off the surface, making it very slick. Once all that cruft has been washed away, except for rare situations there's not much difference between driving on wet and dry roads. As a QB in my day, I found the same to be true of footballs. Once they're "washed off," your grip actually _improves,_ even over a dry ball (dusty/dirty == slicker than mildly wet). There's a reason QBs lick their fingers. All bets are off, though, when the weather gets extreme.
I totally agree with Geoff Schwatz. As an offensive lineman, it is so much fun to play in weather games since we dont have to Handle the ball and we can just go out there and hit people and have fun

I think the weather plays a big part in NFL games. Look at the recent game between Miami and KC. The Dolphins don't play well in the cold 🥶. They are a warm weather team. You notice a pattern of warm weather teams not being able to play in the cold or snow.
I'm surprised there wasn't any mention of Bud Grant and his avant-garde cold weather philosophy back before the Vikings lived in an indoor stadium. He'd give the visiting teams heating benches, but not his own players, and the players seemed to embrace the philosophy. (It's one of the rare examples of the cold teams failing in warm weather [that being the Superbowls themeslves] and not the other way around.)
Leather footballs are actually meant to get more grippy in rainy conditions due to the moisture management if it has been prepped properly. I work with NFL balls a lot and making sure a ball performs in wet conditions is a huge part of the process. It’s more of an issue for receivers who have a hard time catching the ball when it’s coming at high speeds, even with leather palm gloves.
Your videos like this are beyond amazing. Keep making content like this KTO. Keep going, bro. No matter what, your creativity and passion for telling a story has alot of potential. I love content from creative creators like this one.
Hey KTO I am a rising senior who plays wide receiver and is taking AP research and one of my papers is going to be on how weather affects NFL teams that play indoors is there anyway that you can share some of the sources I would really appreciate it also love the content you are my favorite NFL UA-camr
I would like to mention that MLB games get postponed or put up the roof because it is highly dangerous for the players to play through wet dirt. Football players can because its mostly grass covering the dirt. Its why the tarp covers the dirt and not the grass in the outfield.
Bro the feeling as a wide receiver of your hands getting numb when it’s really cold it’s the worst feeling, but it’s so much fun playing in the rain or snow
Hey dude love your stuff. I thought of a video idea that might interest you. So Florida State got left out of the playoff for a list of reasons. Regardless of going undefeated and winning their conference. Being an Auburn fan it reminds me of the ‘04 season when we did the same thing and got left out the natty. I thought it would be interesting to talk about that team because they kind of had the same circumstances that FSU had. It’s something sports fans forgot and it’s pretty interesting to research about.
Man i miss the old days. There used to be a lot more sloppy games when i was growing up. So much fun to watch a 300 lb man slide 10 yards in 2 inches of snow
The NHL does NOT play exclusively indoors. The Winter Classic is outside. I was in Ann Arbor, at the big house in 2014 to watch the Detroit Red Wings play the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was cold af. If I remember correctly it was in the low teens. What an awesome experience. Unfortunately Toronto won 3-2 🫤.
I work outside all yesr long, sometimes in very cold weather, in rain, very hot weather, etc. Rain + Cold is the worst by far. And yes, in my experience, you get use to the cold in 3-4 weeks. By january, I can usually work without gloves and with a lighter coat and still not be cold.
I'm surprissed that KTO didn't talk about how the dolphins would have never been 1972 super bowl champions if the AFC championship against the steelers in there home game would of ended if the weather was bad, but thanking god that the dolphins won the AFC championship that year because the weather calm, and the dolphins would go undefeated in 1972.
As a life long saints fan and watching Drew Brees play most my life, I would say yes there is a definite difference. My saints, a dome team, always underperformed in the cold weather and snow. I remember specifically Seahawks and Eagle playoff games Drew didn’t perform up to his usual standard
Playing o-line in the cold sucked too but when I played I had to think about it like, that guy across from is dealing with the weather as well and somehow that gave me comfort lol, also yeah gloves help a lot with the whole helmets to fingers problem lol
much worse back in the day, when the turf wasnt kept up and with the original astro turf, which was like playing on concrete many teams today are now going to domed stadiums so that the weather will have less impact i
I was at the Bills Steelers game and it was absolute magic. The snow wasnt 100% cleared. the snow was parallel with my seat. It was legit imposible to sit down. My seat was covered allegedly but a couple other season ticket holders took care of the section and got all our seats cleared.
I’d take snow and really cold over cold and wet however. My worst every experience in football was 30° rain and mud, it was awful, way worse then playing even negative wind chill games.
1:08 are you forgetting the yearly Winter Classics for the NHL which are played outdoors? Or is it more so that it's a fraction of the season that it doesn't count when compared to the whole season?
He did forget since he doesn’t keep up with hockey and tbf we only get a few outdoor games per year, and the dude ignored how the NHL has had to deal with brutal snow at some of these events. I hate the gatekeeping in hockey but this is like one google search. Truly inexcusable to state what the presenter said.

Hey KTO I am a rising senior who plays wide receiver and is taking AP research and one of my papers is going to be on how weather affects NFL teams that play indoors is there anyway that you can share some of the sources I would really appreciate it also love the content you are my favorite NFL UA-camr
I named a bunch verbally in this video but I’ll update the description tomorrow.
@@KTOfootballthank you so much! I really appreciate it keep making these awesome videos!
Stay safe out there fam, Boise got hit man. I drove past downtown after the steelheads game and 😬
I must not have been paying attention, but you cranked the production quality on this video!
I LOVE the addition of film clips and what not in this video. As a film guy who loves football, it made the happy particles in my brain go brrr
Thats what makes NFL so awesome and special along with soccer love these games. ⭐
WOW. The editing is top notch. Cool visuals and audio snippets.
20:43 thanks a bunch for shouting out Mile High 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I would like to mention that MLB games get postponed or put up the roof because it is highly dangerous for the players to play through wet dirt. Football players can because its mostly grass covering the dirt. Its why the tarp covers the dirt and not the grass in the outfield.
dude your editing game has stepped way up good job
Awesomely done KTO! I’ve been hoping you’d cover weather games at some point! Coolest part of the NFL for sure
Bro the feeling as a wide receiver of your hands getting numb when it’s really cold it’s the worst feeling, but it’s so much fun playing in the rain or snow
This is a new level of production the best sports UA-camr !!
A pretty underrated snow game that occurred this college football season was the Iowa state vs Kansas state.
There hav been some crazy outdoor games in the NHL the last few years as well
Man i miss the old days. There used to be a lot more sloppy games when i was growing up. So much fun to watch a 300 lb man slide 10 yards in 2 inches of snow
Been watching the content for as long as i can remember and I’d like to say, I love the new style of content
This might be my favorite video you’ve ever made. Been a fan for years, and you’ve grown so much as a creator. KTO THA 🐐
Nah just wanna say your content is fantastic and we really appreciate you giving us these videos to help past time. Fav YTber🔥
Got a lot of respect for you my brotha! Keep doing you. Love your content
Once you're out in the cold itself for a while, your body's core temperature adjusts accordingly.
It's the damn wind chill that drives me crazy.
Was waiting on that shady McCoy snow bowl mention and you delivered it
This might be your best work, KTO.
As someone who played football in alaska snow makes a huge difference
This is a really cool video combining science and statistics! definitely one of your best so far! Keep up the hard work and the great entertainment!
This is your best edited video by you and I’ve watched you for about 5 years. Keep up the great content KTO.
Probably the best video you've made to date. Love the memes, especially the soyjaks🤣
KTO you taught me something I was working outside wondering why my feet felt like bricks 😂
I still don’t know how the Bucs will be prepared to play in Detroit weather 😳
Transitions were cool. Good video KTO
As a life long saints fan and watching Drew Brees play most my life, I would say yes there is a definite difference. My saints, a dome team, always underperformed in the cold weather and snow. I remember specifically Seahawks and Eagle playoff games Drew didn’t perform up to his usual standard
This video was edited to PERFECTION! Amazing job
KTO been putting in extra work goddddd damn. Keep up the good work!
Playing o-line in the cold sucked too but when I played I had to think about it like, that guy across from is dealing with the weather as well and somehow that gave me comfort lol, also yeah gloves help a lot with the whole helmets to fingers problem lol
much worse back in the day, when the turf wasnt kept up and with the original astro turf, which was like playing on concrete
many teams today are now going to domed stadiums so that the weather will have less impact
i
I was at the Bills Steelers game and it was absolute magic. The snow wasnt 100% cleared. the snow was parallel with my seat. It was legit imposible to sit down. My seat was covered allegedly but a couple other season ticket holders took care of the section and got all our seats cleared.
As a Kansas-citian, it was so ungodly fucking cold. My jeans froze solid against my legs standing still for
not the place i'd expect to see a john lurie clip. love it
good editing as always been watching since 16/17 severely underrated channel
Former Packers RB Edgar Bennett was awesome in the rain/mud games.
I’d take snow and really cold over cold and wet however. My worst every experience in football was 30° rain and mud, it was awful, way worse then playing even negative wind chill games.
Cold rainy games are the worst, I played in one, and the next day woke up with the flu
As someone who did marching band in HS. We’ve practiced with any conditions. Hot and cold.
THE INTRO TO THIS VID IS SO GOOD!!! LOVE IT!!
Good content! SoFi Stadium isn’t a “Dome” though. The roof is hovering above the field. It’s an open air stadium.
