Sadly up here in Canada the road salts dissolve all our lovely machines and the icy chunks knock all manner of air dams off slick machines like the 3s. Love your etymology bit on car brands on substack!
As you know I also have been working on cars basically my whole life from age 15, so 30 odd years and I cannot tell you how many Cigarette Lighters I have broken in the newer model vehicles. Even the older ones with the nut on the back took me a while to figure out back in the day. So these Cigarette Lighter / 12V Sockets can be tricky little buggers. Thanks for the lesson and great to see you back in your element so to speak :)
USA here, got a 2011 Mazda 2 and the lighter plug is dodgy with USB chargers. Wanted to see if I could pop it out and figure out a fix. You've helped me out a ton, mate! I'm another old timer whose worked on a ton of different cars, too, and while I think myself clever, I'd've never figured that out, too.
So glad you are back in your happy place!! I don't have a Mazda but if I ever come across someone who is trying to remove the lighter from one, I will surely pass on the knowledge you have taught me today. The knowledge will sit in my head and if at some later time I find a problem that I can relate to the method shown, I will use it and adapt it to the problem at hand (hope that makes sense). You are looking really well and much less short of breath than all your recent vids (ok you are sitting down but regardless, it's good to see your health is improving).
