Wow. I may have found this a year after it was posted, but this was an incredible video. Retsupurae's channel ended very unceremoniously, but this video not only gave me closure, but made me really think more about them from a new perspective. I first saw Retsupurae's Darkseed 2 videos at age 12, and I still find lots of their videos hilarious today, even if I had to grow into them a bit. They were making internet stuff about internet stuff which was pretty much nobody else was doing at the time. In some ways, I think they could be really successful today, but at the same time, their channel as a whole is a perfect time capsule of what UA-cam was for a while, both in the topics they would cover and their own structure as well. I'm glad that I was able to meet them in person at MAGFest and attend that George Wood panel. One of the sentimental things about getting older is realizing just how long you've been loving the things you felt you only discovered recently.
I miss Retsupurae every single day. Thankfully their content isn't gone, but their snarky videos were so amazing. It's a shame the channel died unceremoniously.
Excellent retrospective. I had been joyously rewatching some old Retsu content (a much needed distraction from the horrible state of the world) and this does an excellent job capturing some highlights and articulating the story of how Retsupurae evolved over time.
S & D had such a great chemistry. It's funny how hard they got blasted for internet bullying, and never given credit by UA-cam for their channel growth and size, given the downright vile state of UA-cam today. Always loved their channel and some of those letsplays are iconic and still funny.
It's crazy how much I can point to a certain point in my life from the different types of content Beef and Betus did throughout the years. I first started watching them in college when their channel was only a year or two old (they happened to RP an old internet friend of mine which is how I found out about them), got my first job when they started doing Retsutalk, moved around a lot when they were doing Kickstarter Nonstarter vids. I still throw on some old vids of theirs, or one of Beef's Dead to Rights or Bloodborne vids, to just have in the background when I'm doing busywork. I wouldn't say that it was sad that it ended so unceremoniously like a few other people here because the open-endedness of it from the very beginning was what endeared me to them to begin with. I'm glad the channel existed at all and I hope they're all doing well.

My friend kept fastforwarding on his emulator and skipping through all the actual gameplay. Honestly I haven't watched it all that much compared to their other RPs, and as far as I know they took it down and I can't seem to find any reuploads of it.
I’ll still throw on a wrongpurae or kickstarter nonstarter when I’m having troubles falling asleep. Truly a great era to have grown up in. I would get back home from school when I was in Middle, high, & college, super excited to see a new video posted.

What a wonderful interview! I remember watching tons of their videos in the early 2010's and loving it all! My personal fav videos tho were all of the really bad Creepypasta readings because I was into them ALOT as a young teen. Also glad to hear the Jolteon of letsplays is doing great!

It really doesn't feel like it's been 10 years or so since I came across their channel back in my senior year of high school. Their sense of humor really clicked with me, their creepypasta readings and the podcast being my favorites by far (those few DnD episodes they did with Chip Cheezum and Ironicus were really fucking fun, weird considering I couldn't care less for DnD). Been wondering these past few years if the channel would ever come back in some capacity so it's really neat to get this retrospective as a kind of 'farewell video'. I imagine they don't have as much free time as they used to, specially considering slowbeef is a dad now (I think?) so synching schedules with Diabetus (who I imagine is also pretty busy with his own life) is probably a pain but I really wish they could bring back the podcast, I recall slowbeef teased its possible return on Twitter some time ago but I could be wrong. Nonetheless, wish them both nothing but the best.

For someone so humbled, it's tragic Beef (nor Betus) never brought closure to the Retsupurae channel, but instead kept fans hanging for a simple, yet obvious answer of 'yes, we're done' and called it a day. Sadder still to see how the Twitch bug caught them as the stuff they make now is just as unbearable to sit through with all those incessant donations as they are with all Live streamers and hell, even the Let's Players content they riffed on 15 years ago (Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same). But it is what it is. I certainly don't hold a grudge, and I wish them the best- it's just sad how something once beloved ends with such a loss of respect and ultimately a bad taste in the mouth.
They need to bring this back no offence but their twitch stuff is crap it doesnt have same charm and their quite boring especially Slowbeefs. In fact Slowbeef revealed on twitter last year that he and Betus did record a 12 part video series on the PS4 game The Quiet Man during the pandemic and he uploaded it to the Retsupurae channel but made it hidden same thing he did to Overblood 2 back in 2018 im not sure why he wont let anyone see it
Didn't watch his latest content, but I doubt he does the really in-your-face stuff like a lot of those people. Just because somebody speaks favorably toward inclusivity doesn't make them bad.

You pretty much summed up why I can't stand streams. It's just a mess and the content is constantly interrupted by bs, drama, or donations.
