I felt sick the minute I heard this. The only reason we found out about what happened with the Blackhawks because beach was brave enough to come out and say it. If he didn’t, this would still not be known and bowman and the others would have never done anything about the situation. So wrong

I watched the interview of Kyle Beach by Rick Westhead and reaction by Craig Button, to that earlier TV interview, on TSN radio (more specifically on an October 2021 episode of Leafs Lunch). Button claimed the Blackhawks had richly deserved a figurative stain on their reputation, and that Bowman should never again be permitted to work for another NHL team or for the NHL in any other capacity. Papa Scotty was a leader, and it’s no accident that for over 20 seasons he got to coach some very good teams. Why on the face of the Earth son Stan wouldn’t have learned from his own dad about teamwork and doing the right thing, even if that meant ordering an investigation into Brad Aldrich, still baffles me.
If I were a fan of the orders, I would not want players to be distracted by the controversy of their GM, but also understand that they might be asked questions about him. It’s quite possible that for as long as Stan Bowman remains GM of the Oilers, attracting free agents will become much harder, and that may ultimately mean the Oilers ultimately sink to the bottom of the standings with eventually neither Connor McDavid nor Leon Draisaitl on that team anymore.

Truly embarrassing moment for Oilers fans.

I couldn’t have said that better myself considering Stan Bowman‘s reputation as GM of the Blackhawks (including a cover-up of sexual abuse perpetrated by Brad Aldrich on Kyle Beach).

Setting aside his record as a GM and the failure to act when the Kyle Beach situation became known, the part that really disturbs me is what was done when action was taken. They told Brad Aldrich that he could either be investigated or he could resign. Aldrich resigned and was given a recommendation that allowed him to move on and abuse more people, including high school kids. WTF!!

    • @jyynarpalisenniemi6242

Aldrich was never given a recommendation of any kind though. If your kind of people want to talk about the case at least get your facts right.

I'm not an Oilers fan, but I respect them as a team. However once I found out about this I lost all respect for them. Not only is Stan a horrible person and should be banned for life from hockey he's a horrible GM. Watch him wreck all of the good moves Jackson made this off-season and years to come. Buckle up Oilers fans you're going to go through hell with him.

I'm not an Oiler fan but I do love the Locked On Network. I had to look this episode up to see a calm and collected Oilers fan take on the hire.
I think you hit the nail on the head my friend. The one thing I'd argue that was glossed over is the shame it brings to the league. You were spot on with the Joe Paterno parallel. The difference is the NCAA immediately took firm action superseding anything PSU could've done to save face as an institution and made an example of them. Sure it's pretty shitty of the Oilers organization to hire him and you ticked every box about what is wrong with this hire and the message it sends about how the Oilers operate.
The real shame is on the NHL and Gary Bettman for reinstating Bowman, Quenneville and MacIsaac. What an absolute joke of a league and the leadership it has. I was never on the hate Gary bandwagon, being a newer serious fan of the league in the last few years (was always a casual fan in my life), as I didn't understand everybody's ire for him. Now it suddenly makes sense. Time to retire Gary while you still have a shred of dignity. You are unequivocally disgusting to anybody else in the sports world. I don't care if Beach and Kennedy gave Bowman their blessing. They can forgive him for their own sake but this is the identity of the league that Bettman besmirched in such a cavalier manner. Shame on you Gary and the NHL.
Lastly, I'd like to compliment you on the show. There are some other Locked On hosts I'm not very big on and they don't seem to know a lot or are cocky but you seem humble and grateful for the opportunity you have to do this for a living. I am a big Wild fan and you remind me of the calm and level headedness of Seth from Locked On Wild. I will definitely not hesitate to occasionally tune in when big things are happening for the Oilers as you seem like a genuinely enjoyable host to listen to. Thanks for the episode and your honest opinion!

Sheldon Kennedy and Kyle Beach both endorsed Bowmans return to the NHL . Kennedy was at the press conference in support of this hiring. That alone makes a difference to me and i will keep an open mind. His work with the Respect group is also significant.

Evander Kane's ex-wife is really, really off. A judge in California awarded Kane full custody. That says a helluva lot about Anna Kane's behaviour.
"You know something improper happened between him and his ex-wife?!" She suffers from serious behavioural issues. If you don't believe the judge in California take a look at her social media.
This was a really shitty take Nick. The rest of the video was ok. But take the time to look into the relationship between Evander and Anna Kane.

    My take:
JJ got Bowman for a discount.
JJ gets to be co-GM when he wants to.
Seems like the internet has been given the same talking points as I have heard the same analysis a couple times today.
What I want to know is what does Bowman bring to the table? Does he have any redeeming qualities as a GM or a human or is he just a nepo baby?

Just floating a take out there, but my one hope here is that Bowman is still going to be run by Jackson the way that people have been saying he's been running Holland since the CEO appointment. The only way I can make sense of this - because I'm operating from the assumption that Jackson isn't stupid - is that Jackson 'didn't want' the GM position because he didn't want the direct accountability and anyone he puts there is mostly going to be a consultant and scapegoat. If this were the case then maybe it's all deeply poetic justice, but am I reaching way too far to give this organization credit?

Hahahahahaha. This hasn't aged well at all, in one month! I hope your management wises up fast and cans him soon. If they keep him for a couple of years they could find their window closing and be stuck in cap hell for a while.

I would think Jeff must have talked to the players prior to this how could he not? That being said is there a petition going around from oilers fans to oust Stan? Or how about everyone boycotting the first couple games that would make a huge statement and hit them right in the purse!

So cause he got the job when Tallon left is considered lucky? What if it was him, it was another GM, would you knock him? 🙄 give me a break. Outside of hockey. I understand. In a hockey sense. He’s a cup winner. & don’t compare him to Peter Chirelli all know it was Neely that was co-managing with him in Boston.

Hopefully, Ron Maclean would say this. "If the Oilers think that Stan Bowman was responsible for the Blackhawks scandal in 2010, they would think that Leon Draisaitl's grandfather was responsible for hijacking the same airplane that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & JP Richardson."

To everyone bitching about this hire, ask your selves a question. How will you feel next year at the end of June when the Oilers hoist the cup? Seriously think this through. No it won't be because Bowman whipped the team into shape. Yes Bowman has an easy job this year, but thats not the point. If EDM can lock up a top 4 RHD, sign the RFA's & get Drais extension done this year then go on to win a Cup or three, no one will care about any of this. That the funny thing, all of these snowflakes will melt as soon as the Oil win. Or at least they will stop bitching about something that honestly, all they really know is the narrative. Typical Snowflakes
