A four day week at full pay? Now that's work-life balance | Craig Errey | TEDxMacquarieUniversity

  • With the standard paradigm of a five day work week, leaving only two day for personal time, work-life balance is a mathematical impossibility. Craig Errey explains why we should cut the fat from our workplaces, and give that time back to employees. Clearing time and space to imagine and create might just save your business, and put more life into work-life balance.
Organisational Psychologist and Entrepreneur Craig Errey learned the value of time when he fell off the corporate treadmill. Finally able to make room for the things that mattered, big and small, he began to question why everyone couldn't have the same. As CEO of The Solve Group, Craig helps others unlock the gift of time... with a four day work week.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

You would also re invest in the economy during that day via spending. So that’s another benefit. I’m addition to that it would require major corporations to spend more $ and hire more employees to fit the new day off…. Lowering the overall unemployment rate in each state. Mental health, lower unemployment and a better stronger economy should all be reasons enough. Yet no politicians are pushing this…

Two week rotation, Week 1 MON-THU, Week 2 Mon Tue Thu Fri (wednesday off). Split your crew into 2 teams who are doing opposite schedules that mirror each other. Then you're not stuck without staff every Friday, and ppl are enjoying the benefit of both a long weekend every other weekend, and a midweek day off every week.

I've been hearing a lot about the 4 Day Workweek boosting productivity 40%. The way people (labor) talk, one would think they are really happy that they would get an extra day off and get the same pay.
Labor should consider where the 40% gain in productivity will go. At present, because I've heard nothing mentioned of it, I believe the whole 40% gain in productivity will go to profits, or the stockholders.
A Socialist Labor person should consider the 40% and the time off. Labor should receive 20% and stockholders should get the other 20%. It is the manipulation of labor that has caused the rise in productivity, so labor should derive something in recompense other than just another day off. They should get a raise in pay, which would be a real benefit. It would be better than just idle time.

A lot of people tend to support ideas like shorter work weeks but if they would only give that idea enough thought they would realize that it actually takes them in the direction of zero-hour contracts!!!.....in this age of robots and automation it just plays perfectly into the bosses hands.............the only way people could ever enjoy working any LESS without losing anything would be if it was made financially worthwhile to SHARE the jobs we need people to do.....It's the most important change that could quite easily be made for taking us in the right direction for saving this planet and ourselves.

Sorry but that might be a missunderstanding from your part. It's something that she's willing to encourage in the future but that's all. There are people for and against that. Such a thing is still personally negociated with your employer and there are no guarantees that they would accept it, some do. This of course means that you'd receive only 80% your normal salary. Trust me, I know cus I live here :)

Be big Be Bold. Do Good
It is good to know that you are highlighting an important issue. I think the latest issue in the comity of nations concerning the reduction of working days in a week is equally important. If you also pay heed to the reduction of working days, your this issue of child Care actually becomes partially resolved.
The reduction of week days also solves many other related issues. Now a days generally it is seen that people go to Offices to take only Salaries. They don’t justify their presence or the work. They neither justify the ethnics or the morality related to administrative jobs or matters. It is awesome to see that these days they hide the successful results which have emerged after some people have exacerbated on important scary matters. Either these people are scary or knowingly foul to hide the results. This tendency is to foster the foul play.
Therefore, it is honestly gathered such people are going to Offices to hide & play the game. Under such circumstances, looks like the God is paying them only for doing nothing. Therefore, if the numbers of such persons is reduced, it will help your child care problem mitigated. Particularly, it will be good for those who are continuing to feel scary & keep on hiding results. It is observed that the good results are just like medicines for the foul & treacherous matters. But useless workers never think of that. Timely medicine save the World & ensure tge Security. But now a days everything is going down the drain. These types of betrayals only aggravate & multiply the problem rather solving them. Your further enhancement of your efforts can prove to be right cure for the useless persons.
It is generally seen that women had been the front runner in vicious jobs these days, in showing the colors of courage & God helps those who help themselves. In the aftermath of this, the removal of surplus numbers of those who are doing nothing & seating tight over the matters will help your noble purpose for which you are endeavoring so much tenaciously.
Your further efforts in this direction will win my gratitudes.

If we think this through it makes sense. But it's also a transitional solution. We will continue to automate jobs and tasks forever. So eventually society may have to continuously reduce work hours while increasing freedom and security to prevent an unstable society. I think this will also complement our need to reduce our ecological footprint and to live sustainably while reducing stress, and perhaps even war as we move into the future.

If you think a 4day work week is beneficial to you, well a 3 day work week is sublime.
There’s actually truck driver jobs that offer a 3 day work week at $25 hr.
Oh and I found another job offering a starting pay of $25 part time, work whenever you want to type of gig, cleaning medical equipment.
    Time over money.
    I’m done working 12-14 hrs a day.

Is 4/10 better than 8/5? Because I still feel like 8/5 is worse due to being too tired to do anything after getting home. The extra day makes up for the draining work days since you get to do whatever you want after a night's rest; a clear head. With 4/10 you don't have to waste another day's time worth of commuting, which can be enervating, too. I'm speculating, though. But what're your experiences?

    • @mikenumberlan9360
      @mikenumberlan9360 3 роки тому +1

@@thatoneuser8600 in my experience having had both, 4x10 is better. But in my 4x10 I was up and moving around more, and that made a 10 hour day go by. In my 5x8 job it was computer screen all day, and staring at a computer screen for 10 hours probably wouldnt be great but I'd take 4x10 of doing that than even a 5x8. It depends on both the nature of the work and the individual doing the work. I feel like naysayers (those in more managerial positions) like to claim there would be a productivity slump at hours 9 and 10 of the day. But that's ignoring that each individual is different.

    • @rmar127
