Reminds me of the .ezlp extension for an EZLuaU project file. (A xz compressed folder that contains extra metadata. Being what the project icon is and what it's name is and description)

@FBIagentObama Have you used linux in the last 5 years? That statement would've been somewhat true in the days of slackware, nowadays installing software is actually easier and faster on Linux than it is in Windows (barring any compatibility problems, of course)

On the other trick - I'd be willing to guess that one can simply edit the shortcut file to contain more - a lot of old Windows stuff only does UI based validation or otherwise does not actually enforce what are asserted to be constraints at runtime. (Windows Installer installed versions - the ones one sees in Programs and Features - are notorious for this.)

You can also just rename your exe to ".pif" which is a ms-dos shortcut to an executable but itll just run as an exe
It also removes the extension just like how a shortcut (.lnk) never shows its file extension

Absolutely not. The file itself don't contain the necessary information to modify the registry.
