Somehow "entry level" and "$58K" don't seem to fit too well together in the same sentence. 🙂 I do like the styling and the fact that Cadillac builds the LCD screen into the dash--not a fan of the jutting monstrosities many luxury brands offer these days. Nice review as always, Tom!
This XT4 (settled for the FWD) was my first introduction into Domestic vehicles and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this ride. I've always owned/driven Imports, either Honda or Toyota (still own my 1st Gen Lexus IS300 SportX) and this Caddy definitely turns heads. I opted for all black everything w/the Onyx package and it was certainly a hefty price tag, but it looks absolutely stunning! Ride quality is firmer which I'm accustomed to, my only gripe is with the motor - it is pretty "twitchy" and every now and again it behaves erratically. Other than that...very happy driver!
I've driven this and its competitors and I like the XT4 for what it is: a small, comfortable crossover with a luxury brand badge. I wouldn't pick over or under its competitors but it's a worthy competitor. I wouldn't pay $58k for one.
I do love your videos Tom! Evil Twin always cracks me up…..love the sarcastic Escalade remark. UA-cam is filled with car review channels but yours is always tops!
Hey Tom, love your videos, another great review! I agree that GM’s build quality has improved and they aren’t getting the credit they deserve yet. I bought a ‘22 Bolt EUV a few months ago and am pleasantly surprised with how nice it is. There is definitely still some parts sharing with the budget brands though. The switches in the door are the same as my $30k Bolt. I don’t think it matters much because it feels well built.
Excellent photography, as usual - thanks! But close to 60k is too much for so-so performance, middling mpg, and a cut-rate cabin. Honestly, I’d for this money I’d get a Genesis, or spend 20k less and go for a top-trim CR/V and RAV4 instead.
agree with you but would replace CRV and RAV4 with Passport and Venza... XT4 is a terrible value but don't thing it's really a cross shop with CRV and RAV4 despite similar size, they are just soo much more utilitarian.... but agree with your main point compare this to a Passport and it's smaller, slower, worse resale for what 20g more?
My FIL has both an XT4 and XT5 with quite a few years on them, not so many miles. He was a GM buyer his whole life, which seems like the demographic for those two models. I’ve spent time in them and want to like them, but find my Forester cheaper and more to my liking, granted without any badge status.
Hey Rip, 4 cylinders don’t come cheap anymore. With the disappearance of 8- and 12-cylinder engines, they’re no longer the bargain basement that they used to be - just take a look at Volvo’s entire lineup. The joke here is General Motors’ anachronistic adherence to an ancient business model, according to which brand loyalists don’t look elsewhere to see how much better they could do for the same money.
Wow, thanks for the review. I test drove the XT4 last week and was pleasantly surprised. I currently own an Audi A6 sport that’s loaded. It’s a 2016 and starting to need some minor work. I was hoping to hang on to it until I retire in 3 years. Sooo now I’m on the hunt for a replacement. Your review was great and helpful
Looks like a nice vehicle to pick up in a couple years on a lease return for 30-35K. And a spare tire could easily fit after throwing out the plastic donut.
Hi Tom, thanks for the information, very helpfull, I have a question for you, Im comparing this model with the corsair, I hear that you already test corsair previously, what you can say about comparing corsair to this model? what whould be the main reasons to choose a corsair instead of a caddy?. Regards
The XT4 is Cadillac's entry-level luxury SUV. It scores well in CR's track tests, but Cadillac's recent below-average reliability track record drag down its Overall Score in a big way.
At 58k, you can get a fully loaded CT4-V with magnetic ride control and supercruise. You can forgo the supercruise, get the fair priced sueded microfiber interior package (like on the Blackwing, but none on the doors.) and grab the red hot seatbelts (just like the Blackwing!) tech package, pretty much fully equipped including the sun roof for $55k, and you get 325 ponies and 380 torquies, oh I am sorry, I forgot you need to stack your groceries to the roof of your suv.
Also that same engine gets you to 60 about two seconds quicker in the CT4 than the XT4, and you can get a supercruise equipped model (with the ritzier Super Cruise 2 package, which is as close as you get to a platinum package in the CT4) and it’ll ring in just under 50k, and you can probably haggle your way to $45k-ish. STOP BUYING SUVS!!!
The output from the 2.0t is laughable in todays world. Maybe it’s fine for the base models but there should be a higher HP tune for the upper models. The engine is especially lacking in the XT5 and XT6.
The Mazda CX-5 has a better designed and crafted interior as does nearly every direct competitor at $50k+. The exterior design is it’s strong suit but I can’t imagine people paying nearly $60 grand for this thing.
Unlike evil twin, I'm glad this was an xt4 instead of an Escalade. Tom does the best reviews in the business and there are some great car reviewers on UA-cam, but I've been a bit disappointed with his vehicle selection the past couple of months. I know it's hard to think of a Cadillac as a mainstream vehicle, but it's far more so than many of the vehicles he has reviewed lately. Hope to see some more of these in the rotation.
Another great video, I wish they would offer it with a hybrid option or at least a more efficient gas engine. The Japanese offer gas engines that get much better mileage.
Pushing 60k for all the options ventures into slightly used Porsche Mecan territory (among others), so this only makes sense if you keep it on the cheap, but is it even desirable as a base model? I do like Cadys' designs, they are all very nice and distinctive, but not all of them are worth it unless the dealers really do discount them to make their sales quotas. As usual, great video and sound editing. Nice review!
Tom, offering some unsolicited advice here. I know you are very dedicated to this channel and do some great work on the reviews alongside the Live Streams, but sometimes your responses in the comments can be a bit abrupt and seemingly dismissive. For example, there’s a comment here from “Vishwa Perera” asking if you could review the Hummer EV, and your response was “I did. Search the channel”. I would think some of the best ways to help engage passionate fans is being a bit more courteous with your replies? I’ve noticed it a couple times and I love your channel so I thought you would be open to some frank feedback. Of course, maybe it’s just your evil twin that has comment duties!
absolutely, I totally get that. Just didn’t want that extra work you put in to being active in the comments to come off as anything other than engaged. As was this exchange, very pleasant! Thanks Tom for the conversation. Looking forward to continuing on as an avid fan.
Wait until 2024 model year to buy anything not named Escalade (with Lyriq, you have no choice). Reports from Automotive News, Autoline, and GM authority, and various spy photos indicate significant interior refreshes across the line including XT4, which has been photographed with a Lyriq-like screen, and all of GM’s vehicles will get similar changes unless such changes are not necessary. But nothing new as far as powertrains, though.
This is very true however you’d be driving a Toyota… which there’s nothing wrong with. However … their reputation for reliability is same as their reputation for being bland.
I priced one and it had over 12k in options. Ridiculous. I don’t know who would spend that kind of money on a rebadged Equinox. There are so many better options. I had one as a rental vehicle a few years back, and wasn’t anything special.
Do not think Caddy will ever recapture its lofty place..too much time being a not so great brand and the competition has the prestige, deserved or not.

Inflation is mean xD 15 Years ago that would've gotten you the Escalade
It’s completely optioned out. The typical XT4, according to Cox Automotive, goes for just under $46k.

how's your xt4 these days?
@@devynm1309 Almost 24k on the odometer and still feels like new! You know you picked the right car whenever you park it and turn back to gawk at it.
Tom, via Cadillac’s website, a spare tire is available on the XT4 for an additional $350.
Had to rent this one day. I thought this small car was nice and didn’t burn much fuel for my trip from New Jersey to DMV area.
Appreciate the effort you put into your excellent vehicle review videos.
The Genesis GV70 blows this out of the water for around $60k
Plus, dealer market markup of $10K, correct?
Eric Bliss I agree! I am not sold on this vehicle especially at $60k.
Agreed.
Until the motor blows
Some people don’t enjoy driving or don’t like Hyundai. This car is more expensive but it’s also larger I think.

15:43 It's obvious that the dog adores the XT4. Maybe it was the blue paint. Smart dog!
That was a very dumb dog
Liked! Very much felt your presentation of the XT4 was spot on.
I have this in the Premium Luxury trim wish I would’ve gotten the adaptive sport suspension option.
I liked how your jacket perfectly matched the interior. Very good to go with a theme...

That’s just stupid an lazy .. no cross shop Subaru an Cadillac.. again just fucking stupid.

Everything about Cadillac is a joke, always has been. Can’t believe people actually spend money on this trash.

Make sure you look at the updated 2024 model. Significant refresh with a nicer cabin.
I think 24mpg is pretty low, when some trucks get that pretty easily. 🤷🏼♂️
That seems like a pretty nice interior!
Great video. I appreciate you pointing out G M"s much-improved quality.
👏👏👏👏👏 Good job Tom ...👏👏👏 HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
I like the premium luxury better. May buy a used 19 or 20. The blue color doesn't do it justice.
I drove the std model and was very impressed with the handling. But eventually went for dependability and got a NX
It is annoying that some reviewers seem to cut and paste their reviews with comments from the previous century regarding gm buttons and switches.
Best review on UA-cam. Thank you
NICE THAT YOU COMPARED PLASTICS ... 👏👏👏
Liking the various locations and angles chosen, not sure about the blue on the XT4 though.
Those window and mirror buttons are directly off a 2017 Chevy Bolt EV and so are the folding rear headrests
Looks like a nice vehicle to pick up in a couple years on a lease return for 30-35K. And a spare tire could easily fit after throwing out the plastic donut.
I just pick up a 2019 XT4 sport loaded with all options except towing package (with a real spare tire) with 20,000 miles for $35,000.00.
Blows away competition from Asia and Europe. However the Lincoln Corsair is very close if not better. 👍

Any chance we can expect a review on the ‘23 Vette?
If I get the chance, of course.

This time of year it's tough to get any vehicle. The press fleet is pretty bare.
It’s quite good looking, just speaking about the exterior.
I’d rather a fully loaded BMW X1 for $47k…. 241hp and 295lb ft, better awd, space, feel and tech. The U11 chassis is pretty damn amazing
Trying to get one of those...
Your brother seems to never be happy, but he had good information on the backseat.
Annoying but accurate.
"To bring the XT4 closer to parody of those I've mentioned"... oh, parity.
Another great video, I wish they would offer it with a hybrid option or at least a more efficient gas engine. The Japanese offer gas engines that get much better mileage.
I agree but GM doesn’t seem to be doing hybrids. They’re just going to make the transition to full EV.

What, no digitised dash? Even the Ford Edge now comes with that...
Even now there are people asking automakers to bring back analog gauges. Just saying...
Wonder how it does in snow and ice
With he right tires, I'm guessing it's very good. Tires. They're really important.
I like this, but American cars have a bad reputation to be rust resistant in Sweden. Will this car survive winter roads with a lot of salt?

Check out the UX. Not sure it reaches premium Toyota, just saying.
I keep rooting for Caddy and they keep coming up just a bit short. C'mon folks! I'd rather buy your vehicles than the MB/Audi/BMWs, but....
